When you first arrive at a self catering Colmenar holiday rental, a great option is to walk up to the village’s highest point, marked by the Convent of the Virgin of La Candelaria. The views from the convent are absolutely stunning, with the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada providing a picturesque backdrop. The Church of Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion is also worth investigating from a Colmenar property, built in the 16th century.
The rural location of Colmenar makes it an ideal base for hiking holidays and mountain biking breaks. The town enjoys unrivalled access to the mountains of Malaga, and the olive grove carpeted plains that stretch out in front of the town.
Colmenar is known for its gastronomy, with many little family run restaurants serving local dishes, washed down with the finest local wines. The bean omelette (tortilla de habas) and garbanzos soups are particularly good local dishes, particularly in the winter when the weather has cooled off a little. Despite the fact that much of the calendar is affected by harvest and mules are still a common form of transport in Colmenar, the town can come to life during the evenings as there are some wonderful bars, which welcome visitors with open arms.

The beaches of Malaga are a wonderful attraction from May until late September as the weather demands refreshment, and if your Colmenar villa doesn’t have a pool, the cooling waters of the Mediterranean are irresistible. It is only a short drive to Malaga, which is well worth it, especially if you would like to try any water sports or would like a round of golf during your Colmenar holiday.

Malaga Airport (AGP) is just 30km from a holiday rental property in Colmenar. There are regular flights to Malaga from across the UK, as it is the main transport hub on the popular Costa del Sol. Taking a hire car from the airport is strongly advised, as public transport in Colmenar is less than reliable!
