Cornwall, or Kernow as it is known in Cornish, are blessed with striking wild terrain, both across it’s wild moorland and its varied, dramatic coastline littered with charming fishing and mining villages. Things to do in Cornwall

One of Cornwall’s best assets is the coast. There are many holiday cottages in Cornwall in easy access of the sea and beaches, which can become crowded in summer, although a little exploring will undoubtedly land you in a tiny, deserted cove beach. The sailing and surfing here are notable, and rock climbing on coastal cliffs is becoming a popular activity.

The Eden Project is the world’s largest bio-dome, housing a complete range of plant habitats from around the globe. It was designed as a showcase for global bio-diversity and of man’s dependence on plant life.

The mining landscape is fascinating, and a visit to the Cambourne School of Mines is well worth the time, as it will give you an insight into the UNESCO World Heritage accredited mining landscape.

Cornwall’s rugged coastline can be explored from the coastal path, which winds and undulates around the entire 258 mile Cornish coast, and never ventures far from either beaches or the famous Cornwall public houses!

St Michaels Mount is an island for around 20 hours a day, but during low tide you can walk across the causeway from near Penzance. Once on the island, there is plenty to see. The picturesque houses, cafes and Cornish restaurants require some time to enjoy, and there are a number of Cornish legends surrounding the castle and the chapel built by Edward the Confessor in 1044.

Truro, Cornwall’s only city, is situated strategically in the centre of the county, so a Cornish holiday cottage here gives good access to discover the entire region.

Newquay is the most popular holiday destination in Cornwall. It is a vibrant cosmopolitan town with plenty to entertain the entire family, including outstanding sandy beaches, often with conditions ideal for surfing, amusement parks, shopping, a zoo and many great Cornish restaurants and pubs. The evenings come alive during the summer, when the beaches empty, and there is accommodation to suit all pockets and tastes, from self-catering holiday cottages in Newquay to luxury apartments.

Weather in Cornwall

Cornwall has the mildest climate in Britain, with spring arriving early, and autumn lingering longer than in the rest of the country; although along the coast, winds can be very sharp coming off the Atlantic!

Travel to Cornwall

Cornwall does have an airport in Newquay, the Newquay Cornwall Airport (NQY), receiving several flights a day from London Gatwick (LGW) and Stansted (STN), provided by RyanAir. There are also good road, train (see Virgin Trains) and coach links to Cornwall. There is so much to be investigated here, that a holiday cottage in Cornwall will have you returning year after year.
