A number of high-quality surfing beaches are the main draws to Croyde, with the 800m sandy stretch of Croyde Bay just a short walk from the centre of the village. Nearby Saunton Sands is arguably the largest and best of them all for surfers, but Woolacombe Sands and Putsborough are good alternatives. Despite the quality, crowds are not usually a problem, and beginners have room to pick up this exciting and energetic sport.

Croyde has an increasing number of family entertainment options, including traditional British pubs, a wide variety of restaurants, small souvenir shops and outdoor activities such as horse riding and golf. Another great option is the Cascades Tropical Adventure Pool, which contains a 230ft flume, an 84-degree tropical pool and a number of mini-pools and waterfalls.

The region is also ideal for walking and hiking, with a number of countryside walks to be taken advantage of. One of the finest walks runs for six miles from Croyde to Baggy Heath, with excellent seascapes and photographic opportunities along the way.

Croyde is very much a seasonal destination, with between April and October far and away the busiest times to visit, when the average temperature is 20C. Temperatures are considerably cooler in winter, but with plenty of walking and hiking to be enjoyed in the crisp fresh air, and bargain rental accommodation prices to be had, this is also a good time to visit.

Exeter Airport (EXE) lies 56km miles from Croyde, and is receiving an ever-increasing number of flights as the North Devon & Exmoor area increases in profile. Flybe are the main operator to and from the airport for domestic flights. Those travelling from within the UK can also take the train to Barnstaple, 16km away, and then utilise the link bus service that runs hourly to Croyde.
