A holiday in Darnius is ideal if you are the sort of person that enjoys the great outdoors. Being so close to the Pyrenees offers some brilliant opportunities for both hikers and cyclists. There are many routes of varying length and technicality that can be taken, and all in quite beautiful surroundings. Another popular recreation area for those people staying in self catering accommodation in Darnius is nearby Lake Boadella. If you are into fishing, kayaking or even swimming then this is the place to come to! Finally, if you are aching to see the ocean and feel the sand between your toes, then the coast is just a 30 minute drive away.
As well as spending time enjoying the outdoors or just generally relaxing, a holiday in Darnius also places you close to several notable tourist destinations which can be visited. The town of Figueres is less than a half hour away by car, and an impressive museum dedicated to Dali can be seen here. There are also many vineyards in this area, and it is possible to visit one or two Bodegas in an afternoon and sample a glass or two. An hour away from your holiday rental apartment in Darnius is the city of Girona which is certainly worth the trip out, and Barcelona is just over an hour and a half away. Both these cities are worth spending some time at during your holiday in Darnius.
Generally speaking, Darnius has a mild climate, although its proximity to the Pyrenees does have some bearing. In the summer time, temperatures can hit 30 degrees Celsius during July and August on a quite regular basis, and only has 50mm of rain per month during this time. The winter months can see the temperatures drop quite significantly, even being below freezing at some points. Although a holiday in Darnius can be taken at any time of year (some people come to ski for example), summer is by far the most popular time.
There are two options of where to fly into when considering a holiday in Darnius, and these are Girona and Barcelona. The airport at Girona (GRO) is closer, and airlines such as Ryanair and Thomson Airways fly out of London Luton (LTN) and Manchester (MAN). The airport at Barcelona (BCN) is a farther 100km away, and is much more of an international airport. Main carriers such as British Airways and BMI Baby use this one.
