Holidaymakers looking for a beautiful scenic village in the Rhone-Alpes region of south east France may like to visit Die. This is a great place to spend a vacation with plenty of things to see and do in the region. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, holiday homes, cottages and apartments.
Die and the surrounding area offer many opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding with many scenic trails around the Drome Valley. Die is nestled in a valley at the foot of the Vercors nature reserve and visitors here can try various mountain sports. During the winter there is downhill and cross country skiing as well as snowshoeing and sledding available at various destinations in this region. Visitors wishing to take to the water for a spot of angling can try fishing at the rivers and other waterways in the Drome area. Swimming, canoeing, rafting, canyoning and kayaking are the other water sports available here. Visitors will find a few 18-hole golf courses within a one hour drive of Die as well as many tennis courts. There are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from in and around Die, where visitors can get mainly traditional French cuisine. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drink from all manner of markets and stores in the region. There are many places to buy gifts and souvenirs in towns and villages around the Drome Valley.
There are a number of interesting places to visit in and around Die including attractions such as the Museum of History and Archaeology. Nature lovers may like to take a trip to the Butterfly Garden at Die. About 20 minutes from Die is the Silkworm Farm at Saillans, where visitors get a guided tour of the Mulberry orchard. Visitors can learn more about wine making at The Caves Carod Clairette Museum or go to the House of Clairette at Vercheny. The Heritage House in Lus la Croix Haute is also well worth a visit and is only 40 minutes drive from Die.
This region in the South of France is mild throughout the year but is hottest in July and August when the temperatures reach an average high of 25 degrees centigrade. As well as being the coldest months of the year at an average of 10 degrees centigrade, December and January are also the wettest with around 100mm of rain per month on average.
Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS) is approximately two and a quarter hour’s drive away with flights to numerous cities in France as well as international destinations such as Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Dublin (DUB), Frankfurt (FRA), Lisbon (LIS), London-Gatwick (LGW), Madrid (MAD), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), Vienna (VIE) and Zurich (ZRH) amongst others. There are several car rental firms located at the airport including Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National / Citer and Sixt.
