Europe’s most impressive jazz festival truly is an international affair, and during July and August, huge cinema screens decorate the banks of the River Elbe as the Filmmachte rolls into town.

During the evenings, Dresden is a true entertainment capital. There are hundreds of top class restaurants throughout the town, serving the finest delicacies of this proud gastronomic region. Dinner cruises along the River Elbe are particularly atmospheric, and once you have finished your evening meal, there are plenty of excellent bars and clubs to try.

Even if you can only spend an afternoon in the mountains of Saxon Switzerland, the short journey is worth it a hundred times over. The scenery is awe-inspiring, and you may have trouble believing that it really is a natural landscape. Thick forests blanket the hills for as far as the eye can see, but it is the sheer, jutting rock formations that soar upwards from the forests below that really capture the imagination. Walking and climbing in Saxon Switzerland is unrivalled and a highly recommended experience.

Cheap flights to Dresden, Germany

Dresden’s Klotzsche Airport (DRS) is located on the outskirts of the city, making Dresden holidays fantastically easy to start. There are a handful of regular flights direct to Dresden, largely provided by British Airways who run services between Gatwick (LGW) and Dresden. There are bus and tram services which run between the airport and the town centre, so reaching your self catering Dresden apartment is a breeze.
