Estombar is a Portuguese parish, located just west of the city of Lagoa in the sunny Algarve. Estombar is one of the oldest parishes in the region, and many traditional ways of life are still carried out in the village. There are many small cafes and local restaurants to choose from, or if you prefer to cook your own meals in your self-catering accommodation, you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, breads and fish from the daily market or a selection of grocery stores.

There are a huge selection of activities to choose from within the surrounding area, including a number of beaches, a water park, freshwater natural spring pools and the ancient Moorish capital of Silves. Estombar itself is home to an ancient twin-steepled church – the Igreja Matriz, which was built in the early 16 th century.

The Algarve is well-known for its golf courses, and the nearest course to Estombar is at Silves – a fifteen minute drive away. There are a number of other options as you drive further out, particularly if you head east along the coast, towards Faro.

It is strongly recommended that you hire a car for the duration of your stay in Estombar, as there are a number of towns, villages and beaches that you will be able to visit. Nearby Ferragudo (4km) is a typical Portuguese fishing village, and there are a number of beaches and towns along the coastal road to Carvoeiro (11km). Praia da Rocha (8km) is recommended for its good beach and high-quality restaurants, and just over the river is Portimao (5km), which has some good shops, cafes and a number of visitor attractions.

June and July are the warmest months, and twelve hours of sunshine is not unusual during these months. Winters remain mild, but nights are cooler, and you should take a jacket with you.
