Undoubtedly, Fuerteventura holidays revolve around the vast expanses of sandy blue flag beaches. The island belongs to Spain, and the 150 beaches here are considered some of the most impressive in the whole of Europe. There are now many cheap flights to Fuerteventura meaning that the famous beaches have become easily accessible for tourists to enjoy. Due to the climate, many of the villas for rent in Fuerteventura have pools.
Things to do on Fuerteventura holidays
Properties in Fuerteventura allow great access to beaches, although you first have to drag yourself away from your holiday villa pool! Fuerteventura’s clear warm waters make it ideal for a huge variety of water sports. The near constant breeze not only provides refreshment from the summer heat, but allows kite-surfing courses to be run daily. Fuerteventura holidays also have fantastic windsurfing, kite-boarding, surfing and luxury sailing. The crystal clear warm waters are a haven for both snorkeling and scuba diving. The glass bottom boat, El Majorero is a ‘must do’ activity on any Fuerteventura holiday.
There are also many provisions for golf. The Castillo Golf Club is in Fuerteventura, and also houses a bowling alley, cinema, luxury villas for rent and of course, a top-class 18 hole golf course. There are also golfing facilities at Campo Golf Calete, with a 5 star course, community swimming pool, bi-lingual cinema and leisure centre.
Much of Fuerteventura’s landscape is off limits for 4x4s, so cycling is a hugely popular way to investigate the area away from the beaches. Volcanic craters, river mouths and dramatic coastal views can all be found by bicycle, and for those who require a little more speed, there are off-road motorcycle tours too!
Places to Holiday in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Corralejo is probably the most famous town of Fuerteventura. There are lively bars and restaurants playing live music in the evenings, and the marina is the departure point for cruises and day trips to Lanzarote, half an hour away.
Betancuria, the old capital of the island, was largely destroyed by pirates in the late 1500s, but was re-built in 1691, and still maintains much of its original architecture. Traditional craft shops and restaurants thrive in the area, and the cathedral has been turned into the Fuerteventura Museum.
Calete de Fuste, is purpose built for tourism, except the old fort which still stands proud amongst the new developments. Calete de Fuste is also the sight of Fuerteventura’s only 18 hole golf course.
