Greater Groves

Greater Groves is a great base for visiting the Orlando / Clermont area. Within easy access of Walt Disney World, the main place people come to visit; there are also many other treasures to visit.

Within the Greater Groves community you will find a children’s play area, community swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts and a sand volley ball area.

As an alternative to the manic Disney / Universal Parks is Cypress Gardens. This is quite an old fashioned American theme park that is well worth a visit. Straight down the US27, within 45 minutes of a Greater Groves villa. It is a wonderful park with something for everyone. There are lovely gardens to walk through, animals to see including a bird aviary and butterfly dome. Lots of rides, suitable for all ages.

If you fancy a quiet time away from the parks you could visit the historic old town of Clermont. About 20 - 30 minutes drive from Greater Groves. There are a few shops here and a lovely lake but it is a very quiet place!

Lake Louisa state park is a lovely place to visit true Florida. Walking round the lake you will find orange trees, with the sweetest little oranges. Located just 5 – 10 minutes up the US 27 towards Clermont. You can go for walks round the park, or drive round the lake.

Another big reason for people to visit Orlando is the shops. There is a fab Walmart Supacentre within minutes of Greater Groves. Here you will find everything you need, from groceries and clothes to gifts and even theme park tickets.

Orlando Premium Outlets is the best closest mall to Greater Groves. You will find all the Designer Outlet stores here. You can get some fantastic bargains. It is about 25 minutes drive from here.

There are some great golf courses around. Locally, both Legends (6 miles North on US 27) and Orange County (9 miles away on the 192) boast championship courses. The nearest course to here is probably Highlands Reserve, about 4 miles South on US27.

There are numerous restaurants nearby. ‘Houlihans’ is worth a visit. This can be found on Highway 192, on the right hand side. About 10 minutes drive from Greater Groves. The menu is extensive and service is great.

‘Carrabbas’ is a very popular Italian restaurant. This is just a bit further down the 192 from Houlihans, also on the right hand side (just before the Formosa Gardens junction). The food is superb – but make sure you phone ahead to ensure you don’t wait too long.

The Red Lobster, just past Carrabbas, is also very good. Seafood is their speciality but you can also get pizza, pasta and other foods there.

Cracker Barrel has an alternative menu to the typical American steaks / BBQ chickens, etc. Very wholesome home-cooked style food. But be warned – they do not serve alcohol. The entrance is also a shop full of interesting bits.

So all in all, Greater Groves has a little bit of everything nearby. A great base for visiting the Orlando area.
