HASTINGS TOWERS, CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS

In 1066, William the Conqueror considered Hastings to be the gateway to England. In the 21st century, many people have discovered that Hastings Towers is still the best and most convenient location to stay in for the discovery and exploration of Barbados.

Located on the lively South coast of the island (forget the West coast, that is where ‘The More Money than Senses’ congregate to pay over-inflated prices in a miserably humid area that is prone to flooding!), Hastings Towers is just a 20 minute drive from the airport.

Once you have admired the clear blue seas rolling onto the beaches from the balconies, you will feel inspired to get out and explore. Fortunately, you do not have to go too far, Hastings Towers residents are able to use the pool of the Caribbee which is just across the road. The Caribbee also has an excellent, reasonably priced restaurant and bar with great views.

However, a one minute walk is not exactly exploring, but a 10 minute walk (5 minute drive) down the road takes you to one of Barbados’ best beaches – Accra (aka Rockley Beach) on your way to this lovely beach you will pass several shopping malls that have many facilities including gift shops, restaurants and a gymnasium.

A 15 minute stroll the other way takes you to Carlisle Bay and the opportunity to snorkel or scuba over wrecks. Once again, you will pass many restaurants and bars including Club Fred, TGI Fridays and the 39 Steps.

For those who have more sporting inclinations, en route to Carlisle Bay you will pass the Garrison race course, and horse racing takes place throughout most of the year. Once at Carlisle Bay, you are a stone’s throw from Bridgetown and the Kensington Oval – the home of Caribbean cricket. Close to Hastings Towers is Rockley Resort with tennis courts and a golf course, while the Gary Sobers Sports Centre provides just about every amenity.

If sport is not for you, the Garrison area also contains the Barbados Museum and George Washington’s house.

In the evening, as well as the many convenient local restaurants and bars, there is also the opportunity to visit the famous St Lawrence Gap (about a 15 minute drive). In the Gap, you will find a plethora of bars, restaurants and clubs – come early, stay late, the Gap does not shut and there is something there for everyone!

Also the rest of Barbados is in easy reaching distance from Hastings Towers; Oistins and the renowned fish fry is only 20 minutes away, the Crane Beach with its pink sand is half an hour, Bathsheba and the ‘Soupbowl’ about the same.

Wherever you want to go, you cannot be more conveniently located than Hastings Towers for your discovery of this island in the sun.
