Heywoods is a quiet and safe neighbourhood that is situated in the parish of St. Peter, on the west coast of Barbados. The majority of the rental options in the area are just a short walk from the beach, five minutes from Speightstown, and a short bus ride from many of the island’s other attractions.

The beach is the main draw of the Heywoods area, and Heywoods Beach really does possess the ‘white sand and clear waters’ image that many people dream about when they book their first holiday to Barbados. Swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving are particular enjoyable, as the waters are warm and the visibility is excellent. Positioned along the beach are a number of shallow rock pools that are ideal for young children, and other water sports such as surfing and sailing are easy to arrange down by the waters

Heywoods is just a five minute walk from the port of Speightstown, which has undergone recent redevelopment and now boasts the full range of amenities that are required to make the most of a self-catering holiday. These include shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants (Fisherman’s Bar comes highly recommended), allowing you to either eat out or purchase some fresh ingredients and prepare your own meals back at your accommodation in Heywoods.

Places to visit on holiday in Heywoods, Barbados

Although getting around Barbados is made easier if you have the use of a hire car, the good public transport links on the island mean that this is not a necessity. Just two of the attractions that are well worth a visit within St. Peter are the Barbados Wildlife Reserve and Farley Hill National Park. St. Peter is just one of eleven parishes on the island, and there is plenty more to see and do further out from Heywoods, including the beautiful Mullins Bay and Gibbs Beach.

Barbados receives warm to hot weather all year round, with temperatures around 30C on a regular basis. Bear in mind that if you decide to visit Heywoods between June and November this is the wet season, so you may experience the occasional downpour.

Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) is situated in the south of the island, but is just 16km from Heywoods. Transfers from the airport are cheap and easy to arrange, meaning you should be at your chosen accommodation in Heywoods within around 20 minutes of leaving the airport.
