Fantastic weekend

We have been staying at the Old Rectory since 2002 - that says it all really! A truly fabulous house with so much space. We are a group of 5 families with 8 children in total and started staying at the Old Rectory when the children were pretty small (the youngest was only 5) and the facilities are really ideal for family groups - games room, snug, the two living rooms and loads of outdoor space. Most of the "children" will be 19 this year but still insist on the annual trip. It really it the most perfest place to enjoy being with friends/family, doing a bit of walking/cycling and barbequing (which we have managed every year).
Can't wait for next year!

I celebrated my 50th Birthday at the Old Rectory, it was one of the best weekends of my life. Everybody had a brilliant time. The Rectory has lovely feel and the caterers Two Game Birds were excellent. Could not praise the weekend highly enough. We all want to go back!

Ruby Wedding house Party 25th -28th March 2011

22 of us enjoyed our Ruby Wedding celebration stay at The Rectory from Friday to Monday. The house was beautifully warm, spacious and clean and admirably catered for our needs. The huge dining room and lounge areas were ideal for all the fun and games that went on and it was great being able to offer en-suite facilities for our guest bedrooms. Richard was very helpful and our caterer James of The Main Ingredient was first class. Our two young grandsons and all the adults enjoyed the games room too. We would love to find the excuse to come again.

The Schurer Party (19-22 Nov 2010)

What a little gem of a property !! We have had the most fabulous weekend and The Old Rectory was absolutely perfect for our family celebration (a 40th birthday party). There were 20 of us and we still got lost in all the space. Everyone had their own bathroom and the dining room and lounge accomodated our whole party with plenty of room to spare. It was also great having the extra lounge at the back where those that wanted to could find some peace and quiet and escape the rabble for a while ! The games room was the highlight of the weekend for adults and children alike. We loved the table tennis !! We walked to the local pub (which is great) and walked around the reservoir (which is beautiful) and then spent the rest of the time enjoying the house. We couldn't have asked for anything better in terms of facilities (although a Sky box would be great addition for the football/sport mad boys)!! Richard (the owner) is extremely helpful and accomodating and replied promptly to all our queries. Thank you so much Richard for letting us use such a wonderful old house. We will definitely be back and I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to host a large group event. It's comfortable, homely and absolutely huge! Thanks again. 10 out of 10 from all us Schurers. Nikki Schurer

The Old Rectory, Tattingstone

Couldn't be happier with our choice of venue. 19 family members stayed the weekend for a surprise 80th birthday weekend. Easy to find with excellent facilities, we are planning to return next year. We expected to have at least a couple of rooms sharing a bathroom, but not so - we were provided with 7 doubles & 3 twins all with their own bathroom facilities. The games room and 40in TV for the football were also big plusses. A fabulous weekend all round, I haven't found anywhere cheaper that's anywhere near as good. And the owners are first-class too - we received our refundable deposit back within three days. Thoroughly recommended.

The Old Rectory Tattingstone

Excellent accomodation and holiday at Tattingstone again. We stayed in this property (24 of us) last year, have been again this year and have already booked it for next year. Really well equipped in an excellent location with enough space in the house for everyone to find quiet space if they want it as well as ample space for the whole group to eat together and relax . We are a group of "seniors" but the accomodation would suit large family groups as well as groups of friends as most of the bedrooms are large and en suite. There is a large games room (although we never seemed to find the time to use it during our 5 day stay!) and beautiful gardens to spend relaxing time in.

The Old Rectory Tattingstone

Anne & families Leicestershire.
Date Submitted: April 05, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2010
We have just returned from a family celebration at the Old Rectory. There were 23 of us, with ages ranging from 2 year old twins to grandparents in their 70's and the property was perfect for everyone. It is a very child friendly house with so much space both inside and out and there was no need to move lots of ornaments / breakables out of reach. The house has the room and the facilities to cater for large groups with loads of crockery and cutlery so there was no need to be hunting for a clean glass all the time. Some of the kitchen equipment was not very modern, but everything was clean and in good working order so it really wasn't an issue and there was a separate drinks chiller which saved us using up fridge space with the wine. We used all the 12 bedrooms and all were very pleasant and having separate bathrooms for every room was a real luxury which helped make it a shared experience whilst retaining a degree of privacy for our several different family groups. There was an endless supply of hot water and an ability to control the heating so we were never cold. The gardens were great for family games and when the weather was good we hardly saw the younger generation who were constantly engaged in either football or cricket matches. For wetter days the games room was a big success: there was sufficient space to play all three games simultaneously and the room was off the lounge rather than tucked away in a cold barn somewhere as we have experienced previously. Our Tesco's delivery arrived without any problem and the store was only 15 minutes away when supplies ran low. The White Horse pub arranged a separate room for Sunday lunch for us all and we had a pleasant walk there past the reservoir. Tattingstone itself is a very pretty village but there are also plenty of places to visit nearby. We had a great time and everyone in our group wants to go back; and we will.

My 40th Birthday!!!

Date Submitted: January 17, 2010 Date of Stay: December 2009
We arrived at the 'Old Rectory' on the Friday before Christmas, my family and friends struggled to get their due to the snow. The weather didn't spoil our fun in fact it made it better, the 7 children that were with us spent so much time playing in the huge garden or roaming around the house playing hide & seek and endless games of table tennis or pool we hardly saw them.
The house was very comfortable we spent most of our time in the grand lounge, we also found the kitchen had everything you would need for 20 people. The bedrooms are very spacious maybe a little dated but still providing everything you would need.
All 20 of us had a fantastic weekend the only thing to disappoint was the 'Tesco' delivery not turning up(which had nothing to do with the house).
I would recommend this house to large groups there is plenty of room to accommodate all needs.

We had a lovely weekend in the Old Rectory - the house has plenty of living space, a dining room to seat the whole party, a great games room & having nearly every bedroom as an ensuite is a real bonus. The house was cosy & comfortable - our only moan would be the meal provided by Bella's Catering - it was OK but nothing was quite as described and the whole thing was very rushed.
We will be back!!

We were a group of 19 girls aged from 24 to 40 plus Lilly the dog. The house was the perfect size, the fact that every bedroom has an en-suite was great. The kitchen is very well equipped and had everything we needed to cook for ourselves and seat everyone round the huge table in the dining room. We were very lucky with the weather, it was very hot, perfect for sun bathing and playing ball games in the garden. On the Saturday we drove to nearby Dedham where we went rowing which was good fun. The house is great value for money and a great location (we are all fairly local and didn't have to travel too far). I would definitely recommend it for families/groups of friends and would love to return in the future.

Our group of 24 people aged between 60 and 85 have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Old Rectory. This house works magnificently for large groups with plenty of room for everyone to have their own space and a dining room where all 24 of us sat down for dinner together on two nights during our stay (one of which was while we held a murder mystery dinner party) and we had plenty of room to eat together and also set up a buffet in the dining room. The kitchen was vey well equipped and having the luxury of 11 en suite rooms was a real bonus. The setting at Tattingstone is perfect and an ideal location for walking. We walked at Alton Waters, Dedham and Flatford area, Rendelsham Forest and Pin Mill so we had a really good variety of walks, We would also recommend The Compasses at Holbrook if you want to eat out as a group in the area. We had a great meal there and the staff were so organised it was such a bonus on top of the excellent food we had there. We would definately return to The Old Rectory if we come to Suffolk as a group again.

I cannot stress enough how much our family enjoyed a long weekend at The Old Rectory. The house and grounds were everything we hoped for and more. We were a group of 12 adults and 13 children (2 babies) and truly had a magnificent time. We are just waiting for an excuse to book again.... Thank you.

Great for a big group, the Old Rectory is overwhelming in size with enough space to fit a large group (20 adults, 12 Kids). The rooms are a little dated but the main bedrooms are huge and spacious with lovely views. With small children the decor suited as we weren't as concerned. The first night we arrived the heating was not working but they got it all fixed and the house was then really lovely and warm all weekend, amazing considering the size!.

Richard the owner was away when we arrived but had been so attentive and efficient which was great as I was nervous about all the details as such a large group! Great games room, the snooker table takes £0.10 so worth getting some in if you have teenagers etc who want to play.

My only comment would be that the caterers they recommend (Bella Catering) were very poor and completely miscalculated the numbers (i ended up with nothing and had to take food on other plates!), it was very unispiring and did not look attractive. She is a lovely girl but if you like your food dont use her.

What a weekend, aged 9 months to 79 years for a 40th, it suited everyone.

10 adults , 12 kids in our party - The Old Rectory was perfect for us - not too precious inside so we didnt have to worry about what the kids were up to, midweek it looked like a wreck but we got it tidy again by departure time.
The garden was fantastic - we did move the patio furniture out of the BBQ area into the garden during our stay because it suited us better for keeping an eye on the kids and it was just a nicer environment to sit in.
The house is very well equiped, the games room went down a storm - it's a shame the pool table is chargeable, not that I objected to paying the 20p just that we always seemed to be scrambling round for 10p pieces.
Tattingstone very quiet yet great location to get out & about if you can tear yourself away from the grounds at the house, we sailed at Alton Water, took a trip to Aldeburgh, Jimmy's farm etc but spent most of our time at The Old Rectory - eating & drinking outisde - we had a great week.

Great property to enable all the family to get together under one roof for the week (18 adults + 1 baby). Well equipped kitchen, no added extra costs (eg gas/electric) and plenty of room to be together (or apart when wanted)! Bar-b-que, garden and patio area used a lot as the weather was good. Games room also used daily by younger members (and occasionally the older ones). Dog enjoyed the environment also.
Overall a great family holiday. Thank you.

Our Weekend at the Old Rectory

Date Submitted: March 04, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
The Old Rectory at Tattingstone is an excellent choice for a get-together or celebration. The bedrooms are very comfortable, especially the very large ones. The dining room is large enough for 22 to sit together. The two sitting rooms are roomy with plenty of comfy chairs. The games room is also large and well equipped. The garden is big enough to play 'pitch & putt' or practice your golf or just have a B-B-Q. The house was very clean on arrival, plenty of china and glassware for a large gathering.
Within a few minutes from the house you are walking around the Reservoir, which is a pleasant easy walk. The owner was very helpful.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rectory and will return for another visit.
