We, a bedraggled family of 7 (2 parents and 5 kids ages 2-15), arrived at the Woolwich train station after a long trip back across the Channel and a week in France. We were met by a knight in shining armor, Brian, the landlord. He was wonderful and kind and helpful and his cheerful demeanor like medicine to very tired souls. He and his wife, Brenda, helped us get our things up to the flat, showed us everything we needed, and were even so kind as to make sure we had staples in the fridge (and give my husband and teenagers a lift to and from the local McDonalds!). We loved the flat, it was a lovely mix of old and modern, had everything we needed. The area is great (we were treated to a cannon exhibition and military re-enactment the first morning we were there on the campus of the Arsenal...BOOM!!). Woolwich, is quite ethnic, had a nice street market and great shopping on the high street. And we found a place with decent (and cheap!) pizza. Grocery stores are near enough (although if buying for a large group, make sure to bring reinforcements for carrying on the walk back!!). Easy access to London. Our only wish was easier internet access (although Brenda and Brian incredibly kindly to provided us with a detailed map to the local library for that, as that in the flat was pricey to use)--and just that we could have transplanted the whole thing to central London. But we knew about the distance when we rented, it kept the price more reasonable, and we did have some of our most treasured experiences and meetings on that train ride to and from town. We highly recommend this flat and hope to visit again someday (if they would still have us!!) :) . Thanks so much for everything!
