My Fiancé and i stayed for a week at Le petit flat between 8th and 15th August, and we wish we had booked to stay for 2 weeks instead of just one! It was lovely - everything was as it is on the information sent to us and Mick and Carole were super hosts. The flat is well equipped and really lovely. The villiage is quiet and peaceful, it was just perfect! I would definatly recommend this to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway! We will definatly be returning at some point! If you want further information, please feel free to ask Mick for our email.

This gite is located in a quiet village, and despite being on the main street is tranquil. The owners cannot do enough for you and are most welcoming, leaving a good supply of tea, sugar and coffee for your use in the kitchen, as well as a fresh baguette and a bottle of good red wine ready on your arrival!! There are three dogs living opposite who bark at you as you pass, but respond quite well to a loud "shut up". The farmer who lets you park in his yard is very nice and likes to practise his english with you!! The gite is located conveniently for supermarkets and petrol/diesel (cheapest was the Champion supermarket in Surgeres) and La Rochelle (very good beach) is just under an hour away. There are plenty of attractions such as Arcais (little canals you can paddle around in hire boats) within a reasonable driving distance.
One snag is that there are no bars/restaurants within walking distance, and the local cider can be potent! so we ate a lot at home. A car is obviously essential for this location. One criticism: wish there was a bit more legroom around the very comfy bed for my size 10 feet!!.
We would definetly recommend this gite

Owners Response: Just want to add: We usually get to La Rochelle within half an hour, and Arcais and the centre of the Marais takes only 20 minutes drive.
The excellent restaurant / bar "La Ferme Flamande" is right on the edge of our village, and takes either 2 minutes by car or 20 minutes walking. It's very popular with all our visitors, and does great plat du jours at very reasonable prices.

Had a great holiday and the house was a great base to explore La Rochelle, Ille de Re and other surrounding areas. The house is situated in a quiet village and close to all main link roads which makes it an ideal base. It was lovely and peaceful however a car is essential. The restaurant on the edge of the village is a must and Saint Martin on the Ille de Re.
The house itself is very cosy, well furnished and suitable for both summer and winter use. The owners were really nice and easy to get along with we enjoyed their company. When we left we felt we had made new friends as well as having a good holiday.
Highly recommended place to stay, great value for money and we shall no doubt be returning soon.

My friend and I did our annual gals getaway here this summer - and both agree it was our best holiday to date. The apartment was lovely, offering all the comforts needed to make a true home from home. In a tranquil, idyllic setting with plenty to do in the surrounding area - we visited beaches, La Rochelle, did a couple of bike rides etc We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to those looking for a tranquil get away, but with plenty of get-up-and-go to enjoy all that this beautiful region has to offer. Mick & Carole were wonderful, as was Monsiour Claude the friendly farmer!

My husband and I stayed at le petit flat this summer (2008) with our two children. Mick and Carole were great hosts, ready with lots of information on the local area and there were plenty of leaflets in the flat detailing local attractions.
The flat was lovely, clean and comfortable. It is advertised for two people but the sofa bed was fine for our two girls, but probably not for bigger kids. We forgot bedding for the sofa bed but Carole kindly provided it and we were very grateful. Bread and wine on arrival is a lovley touch and much appreciated.
This accomodation is positioned perfectly for visiting both the coastal resorts of La Rochelle and Royan and also The beautiful island of Re and Oleron. Just above it is the Marais, only minutes away, for cycling and conoeing, and labyrinth of canals and sleepy villages housing some fabulous restaurants.
Cognac less than an hour away and worth a visit to the brandy distilleries. Other towns of Angouleme and Saintes very pretty and only just over half an hour away.
There is a lovely bar and restaurant La Ferme Flamande a few minutes from the flat and the food is very reasonable. You can sit outside on nice evenings.
The big bonus for this accomodation besides being lovely is that there is so much to do in the area if you want it.

An accurate description of the flat. I thought the flat was good value for money. I have already recommended this flat to a friend. Certainly suitable for two people, if not three. Excellent location, very quiet, but well situated for tourist attractions e.g. La Rochelle and the islands. Close to excellent cycle routes through villages and woodland which are very safe and not physically taxing. Marais Poitevin, excellent for canoeing. St Pierre d'Amilly a friendly village with a visiting baker which provides contact with locals. 10-15 minutes away a couple of quiet attractive larger towns which provide all the necessary amenities. Good local restaurant, also an excellent one in Surgeres, the Hotel Bar. Surgeres is a particularly attractive town with historic walls and church. The owners are very pleasant and will provide as much support as you require with your holiday needs. Highlights, easy to retreat from the holiday bustle, relaxing and relatively untaxing activities at hand. Also, enjoyed the local ornithological park which contained numerous types of water fowl in very natural setting, the salt marshes for bird watching in Oleron and the atmospheric oyster beds at La Perrotine. If you go in July look out for the delightful water market at Vanneau a once a year event. Worth going to the local tourist office in Mauze at the start of your holiday. Still things to uncover.

Dear Mick and Carol.
I'm sorry that I left the Flat without putting the following comments in the guest's comment book.
I had meant to say how much both John and I enjoyed staying in Le Petit Flat, it was most comfortable, met all our accomodation needs and provided us with a most excelent base from which to enjoy the countryside; pure serendipity that I should have found Le Petit Flat.
Yours is an area of France that I had not visited before; what a pleasure it was to be there. Everyone was so friendly and helpful wherever we went. Once again I have found the French to be most charming hosts; where is this antiipathy towards the English that I
keep hearing about?
Thank you also for your courtesy.

My wife and I stayed at Le Petit Flat w/ our 2 young children during our last trip to France last summer before moving back from the UK to the US. The owners were hospitable and full of good local advice, the flat was comfortable. The owners were very accomodating. We loved the area, and the bread vendors who came thru certain mornings were a treat. We wouldn't hesitate to return and hope we can!

My wife & I drove from Callington to stay with Mick & Carole at Le Petit Flat, St Pierre d'Amilly Royan for 7 days. We loved every minute we spent stayng with them and despite not seeing the higher temperatures common with summer stays; I felt our visit in June was perfect as I'm personally am not keen on the hotter weather.
I cannot praise our hosts enough for their kind, caring & professional manner, they welcomed us with wine and French bread. How sweet.
I am looking forward to making a return to stay with them hopefully next year, but I shall take a different route next time. Last years return although glorious while in France, was fraught with traffic jams back along the southern roads here in England. I want to wish Mick and family all our best, and thanks for making our stay full of memories that will last our lifetime.
Paul & Georgie, Callington, Cornwall, England.
