We picked this cottage because it looked like it had been renovated beautifully, with lots of character. It didn't disappoint. It is a really comfortable and cosy place to stay, with a real fire and a generous supply of logs. It was spotless. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Honeymoon Trip

Date Submitted: November 11, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
My husband and I stayed for a week at the Pump House while celebrating our honeymoon. I can't tell you how picture perfect it all was and what an unforgettable experience we had staying in the cottage. We definitely have memories that we will never forget!

Athy and the cottage are conveniently located to all major freeways, so we explored Ireland by car during the day, and enjoyed our nights at "home", relaxing and cooking dinner. The grounds are breathtaking as well and the family allows you to explore their land with cows, a donkey, horses and more, along with the beautiful river that runs through their property. James and Claudia even left us a surprise gift (champagne and flowers) for our special stay. I only hope we can visit again soon! Maybe for our 1st anniversary ;0)

We stayed at the pump house for the second time in the last few years. we would have to saw it was absolutely beautiful. claudia and james were so welcoming and an even nicer touch were the essentials for breakfast and of course the bottle of wine on arrival. we would reccomend this house for couples and the property was extremely clean and cosy.

Very comfortable cottage for us. James and Claudia and children were so friendly and helpful. It was so quiet and didn't mind the rooster crowing early in the mornings. Thanks for a restful 5 days with you.

As Australians, trying to source information re rentals in Ireland we rely on the internet. We were delighted with The Pump House. It had a yesterday charm with all the mod-cons that travellers need for an enjoyable stay far from home. The photos taken of the exterior and interior supported our aassessment as "cosy, comfortable and cute".Our hosts were friendly but unobtrusive. Our only regret was that we didn't have enoughtime to fully explore Athy. Maybe we'll have another opportunity to stay at The Pump House.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Pump House. The welcome that we received was typically Irish, warm and hospitable. The Pump House itself more than lived up to our expectations and we loved being greeted by the animals each day. Thank you Claudia and James!

We really enjoyed this tiny little cottage. On our arrival we already found bread, butter and even two little home-baked muffins! Our hosts were very friendly and nice people and we enjoyed the evening together in front of their open fireplace with a glass of Irish whiskey.
Thank you again for your hospitality and we hope we'll meet again.
Bernhard and Angela (Munich)

Janin Bad Orb, Hessen, Deutschland.
Date Submitted: July 30, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010

Aussies in Athy

Lloyd and Cheryl Maleny, Queensland, Australia.
Date Submitted: June 10, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2010
The Pump House was the first of four cottages we rented whilst in Ireland and was probably the best! The time of year we were there called for a warm and cosy refuge and The Pump House was that. Claudia and James made us feel welcome and included us in their family life. The cottage was extremely comfortable being well-heated and appointed. The heated bathroom floor, "very large" bed and the welcoming hamper were much appreciated. The township of Athy is quintessential Irish and well-serviced with friendly pubs, shops, restaurants and everything for the tourist. The history of Athy and surrounding areas we found particularly fascinating. The Pump House in Co. Kildare is an ideal base from which to explore a large part of Ireland and we highly recommend it. Thank you James, Claudia and family.

A very nice cosy and comfortable little cottage. We managed an all-day visit to Galway and its surrounding areas. There is a very convenient train service to Dublin to avoid the hassle of parking. Athy is a good centre for touring. For racing enthusiasts, The Curragh is only a short drive away. Thanks to Claudia and James for making us so welcome.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the pump house in December 2008. It was a wonderful stay. The house was very warm and welcoming and Claudia made us feel very at home straight away. The fire made it so cosy and perfect in the cold and rainy december weather and having shops nearby made it so easy to cook in the evening. I only wish we could'v stayed longer.

We have been to the Pumphouse twice with every intention of going again. It's such a wonderful hideaway. Everything in the house is of high standards -the bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in, the bathroom is luxurious and the living room is so cosy. Everything is perfectly decorated and inkeeping with its surrounds. The extra touches such as the bottle of wine and fresh flowers make it extra special.
The location of the cottage is ideal for getting way from it all and we love the farm animals around the place. It's also close to the lovely town of Naas, with good restaurants, pubs and wee farmer's market.
All in all it's a great place to stay and we'll definitely be back.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to use as a home base in our stay in Ireland. We stayed at the lovely pump house for 3 weeks to celebrate our 40th anniversary. I think you get a real feel for life in Ireland staying in Athy. We visited family that we found in Ireland which was a highlight of our trip.

The pump house was very clean with a comfortable king sized bed. We really felt pampered with the heated tile in the bathroom.

Claudia and James were the perfect hosts; helpful if you have questions yet letting you have all the privacy you want. They have a delightful family and we would very much like to return to meet their new little son.

We would highly recommend the pump house to anyone.

Date Submitted: November 08, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We had a fabulous weekend in the Pump House, the decor is beautifully done and the wood burning stove a real treat, the cottage is extremely cosy in a late October chill. A fantastic hideaway set in beautiful surroundings, with the donkey coming to visit in the mornings. The surprise bottle of wine, the flowers in the room and the excellent amenities really added to our already surpassed expectations. Thank you so much to Claudia and James for making us so welcome, we would love to come back and enjoy more of the river and the local golf when the weather is more amenable. We enjoyed learning about Shackleton in Athy town museum and a trip to the farmers market provided us with an excellent dinner. The bed was a pure joy... I want one. Congratulations on getting it all right!

Great riverside country cottage

Glen Colquhoun Dublin.
Date Submitted: October 29, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
The Pump House is ideally situated along the river in Athy, with easy access to the town as well as the real feeling of being out in the country side. The high light of our stay was the great fishing along the river and the grand canal with the complementary bout provided. The boat trips up and down the river provide beautiful views of the town and old riverside manor homes, that one would not get ordinarily, providing the guest with a unique perspective and a true feel for the history of this lovely town.
The cottage was clean and very well maintained, and our hosts were extremely accommodating and friendly. there is a large array of farm animals, and great walks. I would definitely recommend the Pump House to any one, and its a great adventure for the children.

USA Guests at The Pump House

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay at The Pump House. The property met our "high" stanadars for cleanliness. It is bright, cheery, nicely appointed. Modern yet authentic. Although it was cool and chilly outside, we were cozy and comfortable inside. The bed with duvet was devine! The welcome breakfast pack was nice and bottle of wine a treat. The owners were friendly and helpful, providing us with information on nearby activities. It was so quiet at night, we knew we were in the country. We could see stars through the skylight. We visited the Farmer's Market on Sunday at the Athy Square. Since we had a rental car, we drove to Tallaght and took the Luas, light rail train, into Dublin for shopping and sightseeing. That was fun and relaxing. We took a day trip to Waterford and had dinner in Tomastown at Mt. Juliet. We visited Citiwest and The Outlet Shops. I would highly recommend The Pump House for a stay in the Irish countryside.

From the warm welcome, to the discovery of treats left for us, to the exclamations of excitement from children upon seeing a loft, and adults on seeing a large bedroom with huge bed.... we were more than happy with the Pump House!
The cottage is just perfect - the fittings, furniture, setting all as lovely as the photos show. The owners were extremely welcoming and more than willing to help with trip ideas, suggestions for places to go with children and letting us know what the immediate town/area had to offer. There was so much to do, we're already talking about a return.
Re-visiting the site in order to write this review I find myself missing Pump House.
