Excellent holiday in Casa Betel

Anna W. .
Date Submitted: October 06, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
We spent 2 weeks in Casa Betel and honestly we really miss the place. We were a party of 12 - 3 families with kids (mostly quite small).
Andrew and Elsa are perfect hosts – from the first contact till the end I had a feeling that they really cared about us. One of the kids needed medical treatment (X-ray, doctors visit) due to accident which happened back in Poland. We have contacted Andrew before flying to Portugal and he promised us his help. After coming to Casa Betel our wonderful hosts found the clinic, booked visit and assisted us during the visit in Tawira (10 km from Manta Rota). Elsa, Andrew – one more time great thank you.
They spent also a lot of time with us describing local attractions, restaurants, prices, sightseeing directions etc and I have to admit – they know what they are talking about.
Casa Betel itself is a really spacious and home-like place. There was enough space for all of us inside, game room with a pool table was also popular and specious kitchen was well equipped. Nevertheless what we like most was a structure of the surrounding with two separate areas – one by the pool with several deckchairs, stone table and gazebo and second in front of the house with a table, three chairs and two hammocks (my favorite place). Kids enjoyed the swimming pool and it was hard to get them out of it. Adults enjoyed BBQ (perfect lamb chops from local supermarket) and dining outside. I am still smiling when I think about the time we spent there.
We were able to park 3 small cars (Seat Ibiza) inside without any problem in a shaded area. It was surprising for me personally – I expected that we would have to leave at least one car outside. And again – contact to car rental agency was given by Andrew (very good price and service).
The surroundings of the villa are quiet still there is a local supermarket, local marketplace with fresh fruits, vegetables and fish and also several nice restaurants in walking distance. Wide and sandy beach is 600 meters from the house. The most important roads in Algarve (N125 and A22) are easily accessible from the villa.
Generally – highly recommended. We had a great time and we would like to come back.

We have just returned for the second year and it was just as good as we remembered from last year. The new games room was an added extra and the pool table proved to be popular with everybody.
One of our guests had a bad arm whilst we were there and Andrew and Else went out of their way to get us to the doctor and pharmacy.
Would recommend this villa to anybody wishing a good holiday with comfortable accommodation, it has everything you need and more.

Six Golfers on Holiday

Mel Retord, Nottinghamshire, England.
Date Submitted: April 11, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
The villa was excellent and is in an ideal location for playing some of the local courses. We played three of the local golf courses in the area. Quinta Da Cima and Ria being only 5 mins away, and Castro Marim about 20mins away.
Quinta da Cima (known by many is the championship course) gets better as the round continues with the closing three holes providing a thrilling finale.
Quinta da Ria on the other hand is not quite as long but neverthe less still a very enjoyable test of golf. Both these courses can be walked if you don't wish to hire a buggy.
Castro Marim is the home of three natural sets of nine holes built through and around wonderfully scenic hills. Ther are some stunning views over the the River Guadiana into Spain. Not to be missed but you will require a buggy.
We also found the local restaurants are good and reasonably priced, including the local sports bar at the top of Altura with beer at 1.5 euros per large glass. After a round of golf, not to be missed.
I would recommend this villa to anyone whether it be for a family holiday or for golfing. The owner was very friendly and nothing was a problem to him.

GREAT VILLA - GREAT LOCATION

Date Submitted: March 15, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2011
My Wife and I,have stayed at a lot of "Holiday Rentals",however Casa Betel is most definetly not in that Category. It has a very Luxurious warm and homely feel to it. The location is perfect. There is a distinct feeling of privacy, however the local bars and restaurants are all an easy walk away. Andrew and Elsa are the perfect Hosts, and they also joined us for a wee night out at the Local bar. [Sol Mar - Just round the corner] where we met and drank with quite a few Locals, and were invited to have Dinner with them on one of the nights [A great honour I thought]. To Sum up - If you are looking for a Memorable holiday then this Villa and Town are the place for you... fantastic accommodation, Great location and the dancing in sol mar was fantastic..... I can't speak highly enough..... Stewart Carnegie

Everything was perfect at Casa Betel, the villa was absolutely breathtaking and accomodated our party of 7 perfectly. Everything in the the villa was to a very high standard and very luxurious - just what you want on holiday. The location was spot on and thank you so much Elise for recommending a day trip to Seville. The local supermarket is a 5 min walk and you can get everything you need and more - definitely recommend the meat counter for those bbq's. Manta Rota beach is also within walking distance as are loads of restaurants and bars.
We'd definitely come back again.

We have just returned from a week at the villa and throughly enjoyed it. we were a party of 10 - which included myself and my husband, a 6 month old, a 2.5 yr old, my parents, in laws from South africa and my sister and brother in law but the villa was spacious enough for all of us. The garden was a sun trap with loads of lounges to relax, the bedrooms were spacious cool and quiet if you needed a nap. The beach and facilities were a 10 minute stroll away. We would highly recomend the villa and thank Andrew and Elise for all the help, advice and providing such a nice, clean and well equiped villa.

Amazing Villa

Date Submitted: June 14, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
We rented Casa Betel for a week as a family of 4 (with 2 children 5 & 9) + grandparents and 2 friends and their son, also age 9. Our first impressions were that the villa looked even more amazing than the photos showed. We arrived quite late but Andrew and Elsa were still there to welcome us in person and show us around, showing us where we could find everything, how everything worked and giving us directions to the local amenities.

The villa is extremely large and comfortable throughout, with a real family feel to it. All bedrooms had shutters and mosquito shutters too which was great as it was far too hot to shut the windows at night, and you didn't run the risk of being bitten.

The kitchen was better equipped than our kitchen at home with more than enough crockery/glasses/cutlery than you could need, and all the necessary utensils/pans etc for you to cook in the spacious kitchen or BBQ outside if you didn't want to eat out.

The outside, was just as lovely as inside the house, with immaculate gardens, some nice furniture outside in the courtyard to catch the morning sun, or to use as a cooler shady are in the afternoon, along with the hammocks which both the adults and children loved.

Just outside the kitchen was an elegant gazebo and dining area where we ate breakfast everyday and enjoyed our BBQ's.

The pool area was fantastic with more than enough loungers for everyone including the children, and the pool itself was lovely and being salt water much kinder on your skin and hair. The children jumped in the minute we arrived (at 9:30pm!) and spent the rest of their week in it.

The local town had a great little supermarket about 5 minutes away where you could buy fresh bread and pastries, fresh meat and fish for the BBQ etc and anything that you could need. There was also a local pharmacy (just in case) and some gift shops, along with several nice restaurants. There were 2 ways to get to the beach, and we only explored the 'short cut' on our last day, which was a shame as we discovered a small complex with some more restaurants.

The beach was really lovely, and very safe for children, no raging Atlantic swells, and had lots of sunbeds and umbrellas which were very cheap to rent.

Overall we felt this villa was fantastic value for money, it was spotlessly clean and really well maintained. Andrew and Elsa are really friendly helpful and go out of their way to help you. I would recommend it to anyone for the perfect holiday

We have just returned from a ten day holiday to this beautiful villa. We were a party of two families with four adults and four children, the youngest two being under two years of age.
The villa was very spacious allowing the two families to have privacy and had excellent dining and seating for all. Everything that we needed was in close proximity including restaurants and shops. The beach is very near and is both beautiful and quiet. We had hire cars however hardly used them we ventured further afield only three times during the holiday.
Andrew and Elsie are very warm and welcoming and are close at hand if you require anything. Thank you very much for sharing your lovely home.

My family and I have just returned from Casa Batel and enjoyed every moment . The villa was far the best we have stayed in and we have been coming to the Algarve for the last 25 years.
Andrew and Else made us very welcome and were very helpful when we could not get back due to the volcanic ash and our flight was cancelled.
We were allowed to stay until the next occupants arrived and then Andrew went out of his way to arrange another accommodation for us, even transporting our luggage for us.
Manta Rota itself is how the Algarve used to be when we first started coming.
All in all it was very enjoyable for my husband and myself and daughter, her husband and grandchildren.
WE WILL BE BACK

Excellent group holiday

Date Submitted: February 15, 2010 Date of Stay: February 2010
I've just come back from a five night stay with a party of 10 adults, and this accommodation was wonderful.

The villa was lovely and homely, well furnished, with private pool, hammocks, comfortable sofa seating and enough space for people to escape if they needed to. We had a log fire every night (going in Feb, it became cold in the evenings), which was great to huddle around, and very effective at keeping the property warm. We also utilised the dining room, which had another open fire, candles and an ideal space for that special dinner party!

The villa was only a few minutes walk from Manta Rota high street, with its huddle of restaurants, bars and then a short walk further was the brilliant white sandy beach.

We only used our hire cars when we decided to go further afield to Tavira (which was well worth the visit and only about 15 mins away). Otherwise, you can get to everything locally.

We are already talking about when we can re-visit. Highly recommended.

We stayed there with our two toddlers in September, Andrew and Else made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. The villa is lovely, it is very spacious and well equiped. The pool area is a real sun trap and the children enjoyed endless hours jumping in and out of the pool. We also enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks in the court yard when it was too hot. The location of the villa is fantastic, five mins walk to a beautiful sandy beach and only two mins walk to the supermarket. There are a number of restaurants and bars very close by. We had a great holiday and would definitely like to return to this villa!

Excellent Villa

MPD Ireland.
Date Submitted: January 27, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
The owners of the villa made us feel very welcome and were both helpful and flexible. It is their own home, so it is decorated and furnished well as opposed to just a few cheap bits put in a house for holiday makers. Cushions, throws, pictures, kitchen equipment are all there and it really does feel like you are using a home not a house.
The beach is a short walk as are the shops; supermarket, restaurants. The locals are friendly and speak enough English for those who speak no Portuguese. We were there in January so hard to say what it's like in the hot sun. The villa though looked like it would be ideal for it, with the swimming pool, space to eat in the rear and front of the house, and enough shade for those who don't like the direct sunlight and the rooms all having shutters to keep them cool. The security is good, locked gates, locking windows, doors and shutters and the courtyard pleasant with a small grassed area and a covered veranda all around with chairs and a hammock. Wood for the real fire was supplied if you needed it (we did in Jan).
I'd say the property would be ideal for: a base to explore from and know you are coming back to a homely environment at the end of the day, a self contained comfortable home that you can enjoy the sun at, without needing to leave (apart from food) as long as you don't have kids who need lots of space to play football or similar. If you do have them then the beach is less than 5 mins walk anyway. Any group of adults wanting a home from home.

We spent 11 days there in the summer and had a wonderful time. Having read previous reviews prior to booking, we were expecting Andrew and Else to be rather like bank managers (living in a cupboard in the house !) We were completely wrong. Apart from a terrific welcome, we hardly saw them. We had an enjoyable dinner with them on our last night, and have communicated since. Although there were 10 of us, Casa Betel was ideal for a large family, and the location is superb. Shops, cafes and bars within 5 minutes walk, and the excellent beach a further 5 mins away. 4 of our boys are golfers, and were pleasantly surprised by the number and quality of golf courses close by. We had a terrific holiday, and would highly recommend Casa Betel and the village of Manta Rota.

We returned yesterday from our fantastic stay at Casa Betal. I had organised holiday for myself and my partner and our boys ( age 12) . Holiday was a surprise for my partner and his son, as we live 50 miles apart and would be great for all of us to spend time together.

We certainly weren't disapointed, infact my partner thought we had arrived at a hotel because of the size of the property. Think this is the only holiday i can remember when i felt at home and settled in on the first day, and the property exceeded my expectations. The Villa was very well equiped and had lovely feel to it as soon as you walked in. Outside pool and courtyard were lovely , the boys especially liked the hammocks.

The surrounding area was lovely, and we spent alot of time at the beach , which was a short walk, the Villa is in an ideal location for shops and restaurants which were very reasonably priced!! Along with the red wine which went down very nicely.

We also had few trips out to Tavira which i thought was a lovely town and also to Castro Marim, we also drove across the bridge to Spain. Thought the Portuguese people were very friendly and helpfull, and would definately like to return very soon, in fact I didnt want to go home.

Andrew and Else were extremely helpfull, and I would hundred percent recommend this accomodation. We had a great time and would love to return, in fact i may have to start saving and learning Portuguese so I can retire to Manta Rota.

We stayed at the villa this summer and we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it!
It was perfect for our group which consisted of 8 adults and 6 children (children's ages ranging from 7 months to 7 years). The villa itself is beautiful and very homely and had everything we needed. Andrew and Else were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help us which was very much appreciated. They were always there if we needed anything, no matter how small.
The villa is very child friendly and felt very safe. We enjoyed many evenings sitting on the patio with a bottle of wine while the children were in bed! The pool area at the back of the villa is ideal for the little ones and you can also “escape” to the front of the house which has a beautiful garden with hammocks.
The villa is in the heart of Manta Rota, where there are plenty of restaurants, snack bars and shops selling everything we needed and it was all just a couple of minutes’ walk away. One particular restaurant which we thought was really nice was A Proa which did a fantastic fish stew. We would also recommend the butcher which we used on a couple of occasions for barbeques.
The beach was just 10 minutes walk away and it was beautiful and we had lots of fun there!
All in all, we had a fantastic time and we cannot recommend this villa enough highly for families/groups of friends!

Outside the private pool iarea is ideal for sun bathing and BBQ's in the evening.
The location is ideal for both the local shops, which provide all you need and is within 5 minutes walk to the fantastic beach. The town hosts several bars and restaurants which provide a variety of menus.
Andrew and Else are superb hosts and made us feel very welcome.
I would fully recommend this property without hesitation.

We were one family in a party of three families that all have children under 4.
We were; 6 adults (aged between 32 and 49), 5 children (three aged 3, one aged 2 and one very cute 9 month old).
We cannot highly recommend enough this property and it's owners.
From when we first booked until we said our goodbyes, Andrew and Else were so helpful and friendly. Every request and whim was accommodated.

The property itself is full of character and a real "home from home". It is clean and cool (essential on the hot days that we had). It is well equipped and we had more than enough room for toys and prams and bottles of wine!

It is close to a few small but well stocked supermarkets, that have everything you should need (although nappies did seem to be a little elusive!) There are plenty of snack bars and restaurants nearby, and we did not have one bad meal

The beach is less than 10 minutes walk and is beautiful. We spent the whole day there one day and all had a great time.

I would 100% recommend this property and the resort - it is quiet and pretty. a million miles away from other more jazzy resorts in the Algarve.

If the world were not such a big place, I would go back, for sure.

We've just returned yesterday from Casa Betel following a large extended family gathering to celebrate my 50th. We were all delighted with the villa and I am really pleased to provide this review. The interior of the house is spacious and very tastefully decorated and the private garden offers two separate garden areas; the pool and large patio with barbeque on one side of the house and a charming tranquil shaded patio with hammocks on the other side - well away from the noise of the pool!
The villa is tucked away in a quiet part of the village which is a pleasant mix of holiday homes and small farmsteads. Its about a 5 min walk through the village to a terrific beach which stretches for miles and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The spare ribs at Mars Bar in the village are great!!
There are two mini-marts within a few minutes walk but for a family shop, I recommend a 15 min drive just over the bridge to Ayamonte Spain, where there is a well stocked large supermarket (cheap beer and awesome king prawn). The old town of Ayamonte is also lovely to walk through in the evening and has an abundence of tapas bars which we found to be of great value.
Other attractions worth seeing were the fish/fruit market on the seafront at Olheo - get there before mid morning and the huge water park on the other side of Faro (50 mins) was fantastic with rides/slides for all ages.
Seville (90 mins) was gorgeous and the view from the 900 year old Cathedral tower was stunning. Walk to the left round the castle walls for a few minutes and there is a wonderful old square shaded by trees with restaurants.
In closing, we enjoyed a wonderful holiday in a fabulous villa that was well situated to many attractions. Andrew and Else are a great couple who made us all feel very welcome and they will leave you alone for the hol unless you need any help.

A very special place

Date Submitted: June 04, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
This is a wonderful house which is in an ideal location. There's plenty of room both inside and outside of the house, it's really well equipped and gives one a comfortable feeling right away. We loved the Andalusian-style courtyard, and the sense of privacy despite being right in the middle of the village. Even if you'd rather swim in the pool than the Atlantic, it's only a few minutes walk away to a perfect beach - absolutely beautiful.

Manta Rota itself is relatively small, but it's very friendly and tidy with all the services you'd want within easy (and flat) walking distance. There are five very fair restaurants which are well described in the comprehensive "visitor guide", two supermarkets, and several very good cafes and snack bars. Prices are better than further west, and the portions generous.

As the "designated driver" it was a big bonus to have been able to enjoy a beer, glass of wine, gin & tonic, malt whisky, etc. (before, during, and after dinner!) because everything's so close by. If you just want a quick snack, the Sol e Mar just round the corner from the villa does the best bifana (pork steak on a roll) I've ever had, and it's got live music on Thursday nights!

It's only two or three minutes drive to the very excellent Quinta da Ria/Quinta de Cima golf courses, with Benamor just a couple of minutes closer to Tavira - one of our favourite towns. Or visit the restaurants and shops in Vila Real do Santo Antonio, followed by a stroll alongside the marina on the Guadiana - it's only ten minutes away by car. If you've never been to Faro itself, you should try the Old Town and the pedestrianised shopping areas - or the excellent Forum Algarve shoppng mall located at the Jumbo supermarket.

My wife and I have enjoyed villa holidays in Portugal - especially in the Algarve - for many years. I can honestly say that we've never had a better combination of accommodation and location. Else and Andrew are quite wonderful hosts who do everthing possible to make you feel at home in their home - they're special people. Quite simply, if you want the best that the Algarve has to offer - without the worst effects of tourism - then this has to be the perfect choice.

highly recommend for golfers!!!, just come back from staying in this fantastic villa and all i can say is this place is perfect, 4 of us stayed here, we are all golfers and usually stay nearer to villamoura but we thought we would try the east algarve this year for our 7th annual trip as we have played courses in this area previously, perfectly situated for Quinta de Cima / Ria, Castro Marim and Quinta do Vale (seve's newly opened course) only a 10 min car journey to either of the course's and on our day off we went to Tavira which is only 15 mins away, a lovely historic town old style Portugese and not the hustle and bustle of the more frequented area's of the Algarve, the villa itself was more than equipped with everything we needed especially the corkscrew!! I am sure as the lads would agree this is the best place we have stayed in and we will definately be using Andrew again for our accomadation, i will highly recommend the villa for it's location and for families, but especially for golfers who want a relaxed no pressure round of golf at any of the near courses, cheers Andrew for your hospitality and i hope we will be seeing you next April

Warm days and cool evenings in Feb/March were wonderful with sunning by the pool during the day and a wood stove going in the evening. The house lived up to its description and Andrew and Else were most friendly and helpful. We are recommending a visit to our friends and hope to be back ourselves.

Well, where to start! The villa is everything that you hope it will be - stunning, clean, comfortable, private, very well equipped and more. The owners are perfect hosts - nothing is too much trouble for them. From the instructions on how to reach the villa from the airport to the file they have made on the area, the standard of thought is very high. The description of the location and attractions is spot-on.

We have just returned from a very relaxing week there - 7 people from the same family covering 3 generations. We all had an excellent time! There was plenty around for us to do and because we had a couple of cars we travelled further afield - including a trip to Spain.

We would certainly return and would highly recommend others to visit here!!

Fabulous Algarve retreat!

Rambling Rosie North Yorkshire, England.
Date Submitted: February 18, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
We stayed here during October half term last year. It was our first experience of being abroad at that time of year, but the balmy, totally relaxing villa captured our hearts. Andrew was the perfect host and did all he could to ensure we were settled in.
The villa itself is simply stunning. The quality of fittings was superb, and is very well equipped. We ate in at lunchtimes but local restaurants were easily accessible and inexpensive. We had a really relaxing holiday with no need to rush anywhere. For the first time ever we have rebooked to go back to the same place. It was truly fantastic.
A place to unwind, appreciate the beauty of the environment (stunning scenery), and to still feel pampered, such is the quality of the villa, even though you are "doing your own thing!"
Wonderful - but I shouldn't be telling you that as you'll get there before us net year!!!

Unvergesslicher Sommerurlaub in traumhafter Villa

Freddi Stuttgart.
Date Submitted: March 08, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2010
