After an extremely relaxed enjoyable week, the easy way to explain this villa is to read all the reviews that have been submitted and we whole-heartedly agree with the majority.
Yes you do require an open mind and accept the surroundings, but put those aside, ignore the access/ greenhouses, and this place is exactly what you want for a weeks get away from the general stresses of life. Patrick, Ben and Gerry are wonderful hosts, just remember to take the biscuits - not for Patrick tho!
If you are arriving out of season, then be prepared for some quiet resorts however that didn't affect any part of the holiday, as most of our nights we stayed in the grounds using all facilities, BBQ's, outside kitchen, pool area and alike.
To sum it all up a perfect highly enjoyble and relaxing holiday was enjoyed by us both, in surroundings that couldn't have been better. Thank you Patrick and the boys!!

Great 3 generation family holiday

Date Submitted: September 05, 2009   Date of Stay: August 2009
My son, grandchildren and I reallly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pequena. Accommodation quirky but clean, interesting and providing everything you could possibly wish for including, cool boxes and packs for the beach, sandwich boxes and even a beach umbrella and chairs when we made the faux pas of sitting under someone elses on the beach! Owner could not have been more helpful, turning out to guide us in late at night, giving us directions and local knowledge and keeping the fantastic gardens beautiful for our enjoyment. Plenty to do and a choice of local beaches, from secluded and quiet to very busy with nightlife. Granada and mountain region also provided great days out with good food, (unusually found a great vegie restaurant in the mountains), and of course the alhambra palace - all in easy reach. Enjoy!

Casa Pequeña - big in many ways

Bastiaan   Amsterdam, Holland.
Date Submitted: May 04, 2009   Date of Stay: March 2009
Casa Pequeña is situated in a quiet area near a river in which, when low, a motley herd of cows graze. The house is spacious and very tastefully furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern hi-fi and satellite TV, should you miss the outside world. The garden, which has a pool, is large enough almost to get lost in with fruit trees shrubs and a large variety of flowers beautifully and almost inconspicuously tended by the owner, Patrick. There are so many nooks in the garden where you can sit in the sun or shade, take a dip and even enjoy a barbecue in the evening. There is a stunning panoramic view of the sea and the mountains from the roof-terrace which is visited by light refreshing mountain breezes. It is an ideal place for people who enjoy the peace and quiet of the country and yet have easy access to the beach and the mountains. The near-by coastal town of Salobreña with an ancient city-centre provides you with pleasant walks and good restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our trips into the surrounding mountains stopping in lovely old "white villages".

Patrick is a very welcoming host, you wouldn't know he's there, but should you need him he's always easy to find. He knows a great deal about the area and can give you any advice you might want with regard to sight-seeing and practical matters such as the best supermarket in the neighbourhood.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pequeña and would love to stay there again.

Week in early April

Louis & Emsky   Cumbria.
Date Submitted: April 10, 2009   Date of Stay: March 2009
My daughter booked this for one of my post 60th birthdays! Really nice spot. Patrick is great, really laid back - no hassle - anyway, a fellow Cumbrian so to be expected. The dogs are good company too.
The house is delightful, wonderful gardens and roof terraces for watching the birdies and picking avocados and a real suntrap! DVDs, CDs, satellite if you wanna know what's on at home.
The locale itself is a great centre for going up into the mountains, which is what we did, or a ten minute drive to the beaches, restaurants and hotspots. I really enjoyed it and would certainly return.

Owners Response: Ian & Emma,

very pleased that you enjoyed your birthday here at Cortijo Nuevo and that you plan to return. Travellers often do - finding the location a perfect balance 'twixt coast & mountains, not at all isolated (unlike many properties) and as you say only a short drive to EVERYTHING. Just added to the peaceful gardens some more fruits; Chinese date, nectarine & lime.

Again many thanks for taking the trouble to post your excellent review! looking forward to welcoming you back to the Costa Tropical.

Patrick.

My wife and I have just spent a blissful month in The Apartment and we cannot recommend it highly enough. If you want to forget the recession and escape the rat race then this is for you.

Where to start? The apartment itself has that lovely lived in feel to it and has everything you could hope for to make you comfortable, the kitchen has everything to enable you to self cater if you feel that way inclined. The bedroom with it's king size bed is spacious as is the bathroom. A newly built roof terrace on top of the apartment allows splendid views of the gorgeous sunsets, 2 extremely comfortable sun loungers make it an ideal place to unwind with a glass of wine after a hectic day out.

Pride of place though has to go to the garden, an eclectic mix of orange, lemon and avocado trees (you can pick any of the aforementioned when in season) are interlarded with shrubs, bushes, colourful ground cover and so many beautiful, highly scented flowers that even I, a non-garden person, could sit for hours with my crossword book and never get bored. Dotted around the garden are sheltered spots where you can sit in splendid isolation if you feel so inclined. At the end of the garden is a pool, ideal for having a swim or splash around, co-located with a communal area which has a barbecue and an honesty fridge which was full even in March.

Patrick is the ideal host, unobtrusive but helpful and friendly if you need to ask his advice.

Nearby Motril is good for supermarket shopping and also for the best tapas we have ever had at Bar Brisa al Mar, be warned do not eat before you go there. We went to Salobrena for most of our meals out. La Bahia, by El Penon was our favourite watering hole, the food first class and the waiters attentive and friendly. It's worth walking up to the end of El Penon at sunset as the dolphins make an appearance almost every evening.

If you want to walk the Alpujarra mountains are a stones throw away and the walking is relatively easy with the villages handily placed to stop off half way through most of the walks to have a light lunch.

Although the beaches in the area are not top class we did like Castell el Ferro, vast stretches of shingle/sand allied with a small fishing section gave it a pleasant feel. Cabria, near Almunecar, is small but the first tavern you find on the beach is friendly and serves excellent tapas.

Delightful place

Ian & Fi   Blackboys, East Sussex UK.
Date Submitted: March 14, 2009   Date of Stay: February 2009
We found this delightful cottage delightful and exceptionally well equipped. every detail taken care of.... when we arrived there was bread, milk, butter and chorizo! a huge bowl of fruit and soft drinks. The delightful garden with a meandering path through lavender and orange and lemon trees to the swimming pool at the bottom of the garden where there is a lovely area for cooking and a well stock fridge of beer, mixer and soft drinks. The roof terrace captures the sun every morning and is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast whilst gazing and the mountains and deciding where one should visit - answer Granada! Only an hours drive away through the stunning mountians of the Sierra Navada, Granada is worth at least 2 day... one is needed for the Alhambra, but the old city itself is also great to wander around but wear comfortble shoes.
Patrick is always on hand to help and I cant speak highly enough of the effort he has put in to make this the perfect place to relax.
We were there 3rd week of February 2009 and had a week of pleasant sunshine and temperatures of 16-24 degrees C.... how lucky we felt!

A quiet retreat

JohnG1   London.
Date Submitted: January 05, 2009   Date of Stay: August 2008
A quiet oasis from the somewhat dusty surrounds. The pool and its barbeque area are a great draw. Patrick's welcome pack was very welcome indeed as we arrived too late for any shopping. Patrick is welcoming without being too intrusive. The dogs can be very welcoming at first (DONT BE AFRAID!) but they soon calm down once they are used to you.
We found the apartment to be comfortable, if a little tired and in need of refurbishment. The wi fi worked well.
As a base for touring, it is very well placed. I would recommend it for a couple or smalll group who do not need noisy night life near by - its a long way to any bars!

Recommended for: Pet-friendly

Owners Response: Many thanks John for taking the trouble to submit your good review. Pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found the welcome pack useful, on late arrival. Ben & Jerry (the resident dogs) do sometimes get over-excited on arrivals after Midnight! El Apartamento, was re-styled Winter 2008 and has some great new features; including private roof-top Sundeck and Moroccan inspired entrance lobby. Try to return in 2009 and enjoy the warm sun, tranquility and discover those local bars! - there are 3 in nearby village Puntalon - 2 serving food. Customers mainly Spanish, few tourists find them - but, still just a 10 minute stroll away.

The house was really well prepared to a high standard. Facilities such as cable TV and wireless internet made the stay very comfortable. The gardens and pool were lovely. We would like to return at a warmer time of year to take full advantage of the pool.

Splendid Casita...

Edie 57   Liverpool, UK.
Date Submitted: October 24, 2008   Date of Stay: October 2008
Simply the best....2 weeks is not nearly time enough to spend in this lovely Casita. Off the beaten-track yet close to a multitude of interesting places to visit, things to see and do; or if stressed by modern-day life simply while-away your days in the peace of a beautiful garden - BLISS!

I plan to return soon with some family members and rent EL APARTAMENTO also, can't wait!
Don't think twice when choosing Casa Pequeña. The website description is accurate, very clean on Arrival, well-equipped + all creature comforts and still terrific value for money A1.

Tomorrow, I reluctantly leave behind warm Andalucian sunshine and low prices, for a wet, grey and expensive UK.
Many thanks Patrick, for a splendid stay in this gem of a property - far from your average holiday-let, go on and try something different.

Little Paradise

wincer   Manchester.
Date Submitted: October 07, 2008   Date of Stay: September 2008
Casa Pequena is a little paradise amongst the tomatoes tunnels in Motril.
The cottage is quirky and cosy and the garden has a really magical quality.
We stayed for a week and didn't want to leave the property as it was so nice and relaxing.
Patrick's attention to detail is fantastic and there are lots of surprising little touches to discover all around the cottage and gardens.
I felt like a child again exploring the gardens and it's variety of flowers and fruits and the amazing butterflies, insects and creatures that lived there.
The pool is perfect if you want to spend full days relaxing and sun-bathing and the outdoor kitchen is better equipped than my kitchen at home!
We found the cottage had everything we could possibly need and well exceeded our expectations with plenty of complementary food and drink on our arrival and even a dish washer, washing machine and smoothie maker!
Patrick is always on hand with information on anything you may need but is never intrusive in any way.
We had a truly magical holiday at the Casa Pequena and will look forward to returning again.

Garden is a true oasis

Dave & Susan   Calgary, Canada.
Date Submitted: September 28, 2008   Date of Stay: September 2008
We arrived from Canada tired and with 8 hours of jet lag on a Saturday afternoon. Patrick, the owner had abundant food and drink awaiting us in the little Casa so we could relax and enjoy the wonderful gardens and pool. A week has slipped by and reluctantly we must move on, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is not your average holiday rental. The casa is full of character including three doors, a spiral staircase and a roof terrace, it takes about a week to figure out the layout. There are an amazing number of neat spots to sit and relax, eat a meal or enjoy the sun and we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. The surrounding area has been affected by the development of commercial greenhouses, but the garden is a true oasis. Patrick is available when needed but allows his guests the run of the place undisturbed. Ben and Jerry the dogs kept friendly eye on us. Hope to return someday.

'Perfect In Everyway'

RUSSELL & JANET   BOURNEMOUTH.
Date Submitted: September 09, 2008   Date of Stay: August 2008
"Russell, myself, and my two little dogs are currently in 'Casa Pequena' this property is perfect in everyway, first the kitchen area, well equipped, everything you need and more, very cool to sit in and have lunch, if its warm outside. Which it has been very warm. Thats where the roof terrace comes in handy, i have spent hours up there sunbathing, very peaceful, with really comfy sun loungers. The living space is cosy, with all the english channels you could wish for. DVD player and DVD collection. Then there is the lovely and comfortable bedroom. And comfy bed, which has a net over it, so we left the windows open, and looked at the stars...very romantic... Our dogs were made very welcome, patricks dogs ben and jerry, are just wonderful. Welcome you on arrival, but apart from that, they don't bother you that much, as there always sleeping...patrick is a perfect gentleman, very nice, and helpful, but does not bother you in any way, lets you enjoy your holiday. Now the garden, you need to see it to believe it, a lot of hard work has gone into making it a truly tranquil setting. Beautiful butterflies, and the scents you get from the garden in the evening, has got to be the most beautiful smell. The pool area has all the equipment, beds, bbq area, and the pool is just divine...after a hot day in the sun..private off road parking, many peaceful areas to sit and read a book. Motril town is spanish, but has everything you need, alcampo supermarket is brill, loads of fruit and veg. And we found it to be cheaper than home....i do not have a bad thing to say about this holiday, we will be sad to leave...and so will our little dogs..defiently hope to return one day...thankyou Patrick, your dad, and Ben and Jerry, for making it a wonderful holiday..xxxx

This was our second trip to El Cortijo Nuevo and we were not disappointed. Stayed comfortably in the Casa Pequeña as a family of four, the layout and all the outdoor terraces meant we could all find space when needed. Property was very well equipped and the owner Patrick as ever friendly and helpful when needed. We have all come away again with some beautiful memories of our stay at this spot and of the beaches and countryside in the surrounding area.

This part of Spain is not the most enchanting coastline of Europe; dry mountain slopes run along the coast and any fertile areas are given over to plastic greenhouses. Bur Cortijo Nuevo is an exception with a lush and colourful summer garden, the coolness of a small swimmingpool and ample terraces for dining and relaxing. The property was well appointed, with the rooms accessible from the outside whixh makes it perfect for summer residency. The owner had a caring but relaxed attitude to visitors which gave a easy environment , The dogs love visitors and we loved the dogs.
Granada is within easy travelling distance and Soberena is a pleasant beach resort

A BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY

Alison & Alan   Methlick, Aberdeenshire.
Date Submitted: June 30, 2008   Date of Stay: June 2008
Casa la pequena, is a beautiful property, set within the most fantastic gardens. The property has everything you would need to make your holiday just perfect...from the basics to the unexpected ie a blender which can crush ice to make the perfect marghertitas, and a mosquito net around the bed to protect you from those nightime beasties.
The dogs Ben & Jerry are absolutely adorable, and are a pleasure to have around.
The property is set in the perfect location, as it's only a 10-15 min drive to the beach...depending which one you go to (we liked Salobrena). Granada is just an hour away, and the directions to the Alhambra Palace are easy and hassle free to follow. The Sierra Nevadas are also easy to get to from Casa la pequena.
Dont really want to recommend this place to anyone, as we are planning to return next year, and the more people that go the harder it will be to book our slot.

Date Submitted: June 18, 2008   Date of Stay: June 2008
We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Casa from the moment we arrived. The welcome pack was excellent and there are plenty of shops a short drive away for further supplies. The Casa is well equipped and we enjoyed cooking with herbs from the beautiful garden as well as making G&T 's with lemons fresh from the tree! The host is helpful and welcoming but not intrusive in any way. He had plenty of suggestions re beaches, attractions etc. although we were quite happy to lounge about by the pool and enjoy the lovely garden!
I would definately recommend this place for a quiet get-away for couples.

MOTRIL - Unspoilt Spanish Resort

Date Submitted: May 09, 2008   Date of Stay: April 2008
CASA PEQUEÑA, the accommodation was lovely. A tranquil setting yet close to the town. The garden is wonderful. All facilities provided including washing machine and dishwasher. The sun terrace is not overlooked and has splendid views. You will NOT like this accommodation if you want a selection of bars and restaurants on your doorstep and typical hotel style accommodation! Go to Malaga instead! The town is 2-3kms distance and it is an unspoilt Spanish resort - long may this continue! You will need your own transport. We enjoyed days out exploring the area - the mountains, the mountain towns and the lovely coast. We were happy to relax on the terraces and the garden - the pool and bar-b-q area are lovely. There is plenty of room for alfresco dining.
Read the owners web-site all information is there.

Many thanks for your excellent Review; pleased that you loved the Casita, enjoyed the gardens and appreciated the still 'Spanish feel' around Motril. Hope to welcome you back in the future!

Date Submitted: January 06, 2008   Date of Stay: October 2007
We were looking for a quiet relaxing holiday and CASA PEQUEÑA was the perfect choice. The accommodation was full of character - the high points being the comprehensively equipped kitchen with it's spiral staircase, the stunning views from the roof terrace and the extensive gardens. The welcome pack that Patrick left was extremely thoughtful, with everything we needed to make a meal and set us up for the first few days - which really took any presure off and allowed us to relax straight away. The town of Motril was worth exploring and there were plenty of beaches within a 15 minute drive. Salobreña was particularly good for restaurants, and it's worth mentioning the English speaking internet café on the beachfront. If you've got time, it's worth a drive up into the hills. All in all the Casa was perfect for two, with plenty of little corners to escape in the sunshine.

We stayed at CASA PEQUEÑA April 2007, whilst searching for a property to purchase. Didn't do too much research, enjoyed the Casa a little too much!
What a beautiful setting (albeit surrounded by plastic greenhouses), the gardens that Patrick has put so much hard work into are a delight. His dad a pleasure to chat with, his gorgeous dogs (who went mad when we first arrived and thereafter didn't find us interesting at all) a delight. Welcome pack - very welcome and enjoyable - especially the cava after a long days travel. Casa - quirky! we loved quirky!! clean, well stocked, quiet - in fact anything you could want for a happy romantic (candles everywhere) holiday - we shall return. Well done Patrick - you work hard to ensure your guests enjoy!!

'ok, we're biased - we've stayed before, we loved it so we came back. Hopefully we'll be back again. The local area around Motril remains unspoilt by the inevitable onset of tourist property development. The sugar cane is mostly gone now replaced by commercial agriculture (plasticultura). For scenery you can be in the Alpujarras in an hour, Granada/Alhambra a bit longer. You can visit long beaches or rocky coves along the coastline. The accommodation is great - quirky design and location - but with everything you need to be self-sufficient, set in a marvellous peaceful garden. Swim, rustle up some food and then sit on the balcony in the evening, listen to the birds - no bar or disco. Yesterday we played chess in the peace of the garden, sat on a beach looking up at snow-covered Sierra Nevada peaks and by nightfall we were in Devon. What more could you want!'

'CASA PEQUEÑA is a delightful place to stay. The patio of the cottage leads directly onto the gardens and pool area. The gardens designed by the owner Patrick are a credit to him, designed with shady and sunny areas. The roof top terrace is a lovely place to sit and have dinner and watch the sun set behind the mountains. The kitchen is very well equipped with all mod cons. Only 5 mins from Motril by car, there are numerous restaurants and tapas bars to enjoy the flavours of the Mediterranean, not an 'English Pub' in sight. Patrick the owner is there if you need anything, but not intrusive in any way. The two resident dogs , Ben + Jerry will also make you welcome! A very enjoyable holiday.'

CASA PEQUEÑA - MOTRIL

Charlie & Fee   LEEDS, ENGLAND.
Date Submitted: December 27, 2007   Date of Stay: June 2007
'what a lovely house to spend a week recharging your batteries. So peaceful and private in the wonderful gardens and pool area. So many little places to sit and relax that we couldn't get through them all in just one week. Patrick the owner left the biggest welcome pack we have ever seen, which meant we could start relaxing straight away and not have to worry about shopping. With a well equipped kitchen and beautiful herb patch a culinary expert would want for nothing here. It is this attention to detail that makes this house so unique. Overall well presented and tastefully decorated with two lovely dogs that will welcome you with open paws. We would highly recommend Casa Pequeña. We would however, recommend that you hire a car as the town - Motril - is a 5 minute drive.'

CASA PEQUEÑA - PUNTALÓN

'the four of us (two adults and two twelve year old boys) have just returned from a week at Casa Pequeña, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We wish we could have stayed on another week. The garden is a delight for all the senses. Our boys enjoyed the pool on the long hot days and we sat out late at night in the many different parts of the garden - we also enjoyed using the very well stocked kitchen. We packed in a fair bit over the week: Malaga for the Picasso Museum; The Alpujarras, visited the Tibetan monastry there (a wild, lonely spot); resorts of Salobreña, Calahonda (where our boys played football with the locals), Almuñecar and Castell de Ferro; Nerja (astonishing caves); did some mountain walking around Itrabo, although August is a bit hot for that sort of thing. We regret not getting to the Alhambra. It's worth booking tickets 'online' in advance, or you'll need to get up early to queue on the day. Patrick is as other reviewers say the perfect host, friendly and informative while being totally unobtrusive. Thanks Patrick for making a holiday to remember.'

CASA PEQUEÑA

'We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pequeña. The casa is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning gardens and a wonderful relaxing ambience. Patrick was a fabulous host and the welcome pack of wine, cheese, bread etc., was a lovely touch. We found that Motril was a great base for exploring some of the less touristy parts of Andalucia, with the casa only being a short drive from the stunning Alpujarras mountains. We took our 2 year old daughter along with us, who loved the swimming pool and made great friends of Ben and Jerry. We would recommend the casa to anyone after a chillout and break from the hustle and bustle of life. The roof terrace at night is particularly special. Enjoy!'

'enjoyed a splendid week in the well equipped and comfortable Casa Pequeña. Set in a lush garden away from the hustle and bustle it suited us perfectly for a relaxing, peaceful holiday. Patrick the owner made us feel welcome and even let us help ourselves to the fresh fruit from the garden, he was also very helpful with advice/information regarding the local area. We wanted for nothing. Well done Patrick'.
