Olive Tree House

Date Submitted: May 02, 2012 Date of Stay: April 2012
We stayed in the Olive Tree House for one week in April. Unfortunately, it was rainy half of our stay (which we were told is really unusual for the Algarve), but the weather was the only thing we could complain about.

The Olive Tree House is a great place to relax, surrounded by a beautiful garden and lovely smelling orange trees, which were blooming when we arrived. From the terrace of Olive Tree House you have a great view over the garden, you can even see the ocean from there.

The apartment itself is bright, clean and has everything you need. Very pleasant was the 'welcome package' we were provided with (bread, butter, milk, ham, fruits, beer, wine, ...), freshly-picked flowers in the kitchen not to forget.
Last but not least, we have to mention our kind host Cynthia, who made us feel very welcome. She's almost always there if you need anything, and helps you with any request.

Next time we will hope for better weather and might have a perfect holiday....

Matthias & Lisa

Pool House - highly recommended

2 adults & 2 kids
We found the pool house was very comfortable, with lots of choices as to where to eat meals outside, sit and relax, etc - by the pool, on the roof, on the rear patio. Cynthia's relaxed and flexible approach meant we were able to make the best of these great spaces - and their views.

We very much enjoyed the very nice pool, and also the table tennis (good quality table).

The extensive garden is also a great place for wandering, with a wide variety of flora.

Fantastic having a nice fire place for the sometimes cool April evenings.

A private gated entrance suited us, having young family.

Thank you Cynthia for your very warm and accommodating hospitality.

Olive Tree House in Santo Estevao

Date Submitted: April 22, 2012 Date of Stay: April 2012
We don't really want anyone to know about this holiday home as we want to keep it to ourselves! Alas, that would not help Cynthia, the owner, who was so charming and helpful, whether it was on the internet or face to face conversations. She made you so welcome throughout the week. On arrival, our fridge had been stocked with goodies. There were helpful written notes inside. The apartment had a homely feel to it, with all the essential needs. The spacious balcony had everything....a shaded area with table and chairs and a lot of room for relaxing in the sunshine from morning to evening. The views were lovely. Beneath us was a lovely clean pool...too cold to savour! We visited historical towns nearby and walked across the rolling countryside. Driving was not threatening!!.The beaches were so natural, clean and long. We wanted a house and a location, with friendly folk, in which we could relax and amble at snail's pace and we found it!!

Stay in the Pool House in February-March

Date Submitted: March 09, 2012 Date of Stay: February 2012
We had a wonderfulll stay in the Pool House in St. Estevao. The owner is a very friendly English lady, who took good care of us but left us out privacy. We arrived at saterday night, without luggage, and it was very good to find a house so complete with in the fridge enough food to survive a day. Little details, like fresh flowers on the table, little presents for the children and so on made us feel so welcome.

We especially enjoyed the livingroom with a fireplace including loggs, the wonderfull view over the beautifull garden and the sea, two luxuory bathrooms with plenty of towels and a cosy kitchen with about everything you might need. Our children (8 and 9 years old) had a wonderfull time.

St. Estevao is a nice little town with a small shop and a very good restaurant. The beach is only ten minutes by car and a little train brings you through a beautifull coastal terrain right on the beach.

We had a wonderfull time and we would like to visit again.

Remco en Monique Jonker
Emmeloord, The Netherlands

We made our decision to book the Pool House based on all the wonderful reviews already given ... we couldn't have done any better, it was perfect! Cynthia was absolutely lovely, helpful and accommodating, the perfect hostess. We loved having the dogs around too. The house was clean and had everything we needed. There was also plenty of shade on the terrace from the heat of the day.
Cynthia was also a great help with places to visit and restaurants. All in all a blissful place to stay, we're so glad we discovered it!
Chris, Nicky and girls

If like me you like escaping from the masses then this little corner of the real Algarve may well suit you down to the ground. Come here to relax by the excellent pool area and if you like dogs and cats then meet the locals residents.
Cynthia has created a little gem, somewhat away from where the majority of tourists are likely to head and for me this is a bonus.
Only five minues from the motorway and a short drive to Tavira and St Luzia.
The gardens are impressive and a labour of love.
Cynthia couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. I look forward to a return visit.

Two weeks ago we went for the second time to Santo Estevao, to Cynthia Vero. We stayed in the poolhouse this time. Now we experienced both, the Poolhouse ánd the Olive treehouse. What can I say, every word that is written already in the other reviews is true. Above everything, I was realy moved by the great hospitality from Cynthia, she is realy a lovel lady and a perfect hostess.
And than of course, the privacy, the lovely accomodation, the swimmingpool, the nice weather, the great view. I think we will be there next year again.
Willem Diks & Annemieke Goossens Twello, Holland

Having stayed first stayed at Cynthia's when i was about 14 (now 27), and having stayed here many times it has always been a fantastic break. Each time harder to have to return home at the end of the holiday.

Pool house and Olive Tree both provide fantastic accomodation, very much a home from home. Always immaculate with all the facilities that you will need. Its great to just sit with a bottle of beer and enjoy the fantatstic scenery from the balcony (Olive Tree) or roof terrace (Pool House).

Cynthia always makes you feel extremely welcome and has expert knowledge of the area and places to visit, the best resturants and does so much to make sure you have a wonderful holiday.

It takes approximately 30 minutes to Santo Estevao from Faro airport with a further 30 minute drive to the Spanish boarder. The surrounding area offers much to do, from glorious golden beaches (5 minute drive away) to fantastic mountain scenery only 20 minutes drive to the north.

Fantastic towns and fisihing villages, Tavira and Santa Luzia the closest to Santo Estevao are worth visiting more than once during your stay.

In summary you will not be dissapointed, we are already planning our next trip in 2012!

Andrew

Northamptonshire, UK

We spent a week at the Olive Tree House and we loved it! The setting is beautiful: great variety of trees and cactus which would delight a botanist, a great view from the first floor terraces, a very nice swimming pool and few people to share it with. The house is quite cosy and pleasant, including all the benefits of a fully equipped kitchenette. And we had the pleasure of meeting the nicest of hostesses and her lovely dogs. It must be said that the village of Santo Estêvão is pleasant and quiet, and hosts a nice restaurant with good unexpensive food. Therefore staying at the Olive Tree House was a great experience and definitely excellent value.

We booked the Olive Tree as it was just the two of us. It was very peaceful and quiet. We had a view of the sea from the terrace, the weather was terrific and the accommodation had everything we needed. There was an excellent restaurant in the village which was 10 minutes walk away, there are two supermarkets, a chemist and a post office. Cynthia was very friendly, she was always on hand if you needed anything, otherwise she left you alone to get on with your holiday. The town of Tavira was 10 - 15 minutes drive away. We had a lovely holiday and would not hesitate to return there another year. Thank you very much Cynthia for being the perfect host.

We stayed in Cinthias Pool House in November 2010. We stayed with our little girl, two years of age. Cinthias was a terrific host who respects the privacy of the guests. In fact you nearly don´t see her, but if you need her, she is there to help you.

The Pool House is very nice and the whole proberty is lovely. There is everything provided you may need.

If you are travelling with little children you have to keep an eye on them to avoid them falling in the pool. But that fact we knew in advance.

The location is close to Tavira (10 min. drive) and you have a close acess to the motorway (5 min. drive), so it´s easy to make daytrips througout the Algarve.

To sum it up I can truely recommend a stay with Cynthia in a very cosy and relaxing atmosphere.

My husband & I stayed here at the Casa Moinho villa in September.
I have read all the previous reviews about this property and they are all 'spot on' !!
We stayed at the Pool House everything was imaculate, clean & very well maintained.
We was welcomed by Cynthia with a hug as if we had known her forever. Cynthia is English but actually lives on the property in her own villa within the surroundings, she is there if you need her but is never intrusive, she tends to her gardens, walks her dogs and keeps to herself.
We booked for a week, Cynthia sent us great directions all via email (Faro airport 25 mins) .
We booked with the intentions of 'just relaxing' and did just that we didnt have to venture out for much other than food!
If you want to visit other areas a car is recommended, most places are easy to get to. Tavira is very near by where you can visit the beach, shops, bars, resturants etc.., there is even a Lidl Supermarket to stock up supplies .
Casa Moinho has a barbeque area and the rooftop terrace is great to watch the sun set with a glass or two of wine !
The pool area is wonderful, again very clean & warm.
Cynthia supplies all towels, even for the beach!!
The villa itself is situated back from the road by a lovely private driveway, all of the property is very secure making the stay even more peaceful!!
This is the third time that we have stayed in the Tavira region and this villa is by far the best, I would recommend Casa Moinho and will definatly be staying here again.
It would be hard to find something negitive about this villa the only thing would be a lack of sky TV channels (but why would you need a TV on a holiday) maybe for the kids ??
Book now and you wont be disappointed.
Thankyou Cynthia

We booked the Pool House after reading other peoples reviews and were not disappointed. Cynthia is a lovely host, the Pool House has everything you could need and the setting is extremely pretty. The local restaurant has good food at reasonable prices and is in walking distance. Although we've been to Portugal many times, we have never stayed east of Faro before but wouldn't hesitate in recommending it and Casa Moinho in particular!

Excellent Holiday in the Sun

Date Submitted: July 28, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
My wife and I booked the Pool House 'last minute' and we were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful and very peaceful; the pool one of the best I have come across on numerous other villa holidays; and the accommodation very comfortable, with everything you might need. Cynthia was the perfect hostess providing very helpful advice and assistance when required but not in any way intrusive.

The house is really well located being only a few miles from the lovely town of Tavira as well as some great beaches on the Ilha de Tavira. The local village has all the things you might need and has the advantage of a simple, friendly restaurant within walking distance. So no arguments about who has to drive!

Although the house is really well equipped some of the fixtures and fittings are not as modern as some people might prefer. This did not matter to us and in my opinion added to the charm of the place and I had some of my best nights sleep I've had in a long time!

In summary, we had a lovely time and came back home thoroughly relaxed. I would definitely recommend this property to others and would consider booking it again.

We have been staying at Casa Moinho for the past 15 years, during Feb/March, and never for less than 1 month. It is the most tranquil place, with a wonderful garden, and we look forward to returning each year to wind down.
We always get a wonderful welcome from Cynthia who is always very helpful and friendly, and the dogs are a delight. Pool House is like a home-from-home, and has everything required for self caterers, with log fires for cool mornings and evenings. The village of Sto. Estevao is a 10 min. walk away, and has excellent bars and 2 mini markets, where you can obtain everything you need. The fishing port of Tavira is a short drive away, where there is a fantastic fish, meat and vegetable market, as well as many other small shops and supermarkets.
We would happily recommend Pool House to anyone.

If you require a peaceful break away from it all with spotless accomodation and a warm welcome this is ideal.
Located on the fringes of a small village with the sea in the distance, the house and villa are surrounded by trees and flowers with an inviting swimming pool immediately outside the 2 bedroom villa.
A car is however essential if you wish to visit the nearby town of Tavira and any of the wonderful beaches.
Cynthia is the perfect hostess, not interferring but able to help in all matters from booking restaurants to advising on the best places to visit and shop.
We have been coming here for many years now and have no intention of looking elsewhere for a wonderful stress free holiday.

A comfortable, peaceful villa beautifully located

Date Submitted: April 08, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
This comfortable and spacious villa is set in a very peaceful and attractive location surrounded by beautiful, well tended, informal gardens. It offers a complete escape from the outside world unless you switch on the TV. The villa is within walking distance of the small, unassuming, working village, Sao Estavao, which has a well stocked general store, a pharmacy and a pub-restaurant. Surprisingly it also has a cash machine. It is within a short drive of the beautiful protected town of Tavira which is a civilised delight and provides a balance to the simplicity of the surrounding countryside.

The coast is nearby and offers the tempting resort of Santa Lucia. This is a restrained but attractive resort with a selective range of competent restaurants and cafes.

The villa then, offers a range of attractive destinations and experiences which are all within easy distance. Never the less it was always a delight to return to the peace and comfort of the villa. This is all very much the result of the villa owner's careful attention to the whole environment. She embodies the spirit of the place, attentive but unobtrusive.

Staying there was a delight in every way.

Casa Moinho at Christmas

Kev and Jaq Derby.
Date Submitted: February 03, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
This was our second trip to Cas moinho, the last being at New year 2004. We tend to like trying different places so it is a tribute to this one that we returned so soon. What takes us back at this time of the year is the mild climate and to get away from the ig freeze in the UK. In 2004 it was about 25C, but not quite as warm this time but still nice enough to sit out in the afternoon and for our chosen pasttime of road cycling, which is the reason we come here. there are plenty of lovely road roads and some excellent road climbs for a solid week of winter training. You certainly need a car to appreciate the area. Spain is only a half hour trip away. We stayed in the olive tree house last time but this time it was the pool house and it was just ideal for a Christmas get away. The accomodation was excellent, the facilities were great for self caterers and the owner provided (at a small charge) all the logs we needed for a lovely roaring fire in the evenings when the temperature dropped (as it does with the clear skies). The accomodation is clean and well presented throughout and only about 10 feet from the pool. The showers wer modern and worked very well. there are lemon trees galore to help with the Gin and Tonics and the owners dogs are very friendly. The local village is very quiet and Tavira, about 5-6 miles away is more modern and lively if you are into that. All in all an excellent place for a get away from it all break to de-stress and relax. This will notbe our last trip to Cas Moinho.

This will be our fourth year....so there's testimony alone! A true escape from the Rat Race, the Pool House is somewhere where relaxation is almost instantaneous as you walk through the gates. Aagh, "that pool" is so inviting; you just have to accept its allure and jump in!
A few essential food items are provided upon arrival.
No traffic noise here, in fact not much noise at all, apart from the odd moth 'chirping' in the trees.
Your privacy at Casa Moinho is respected, yet Cynthia is very helpful and sociable, especially when searching for local gastronomic delights, of which there are many, if you are willing to seek them out..The local knowledge at Casa Moinho beats Tourist Information hands down for shopping, fish and fruit markets and local markets etc...
As far as The Pool House is concerned, it's ideal; clean, comfortable, 2 bedrooms with separate bathrooms (ideal for families or up to 2 x couples).
If you get the urge to cook, then everything is available..full kitchen facilities.
Children can relax and watch TV if they want and there are shadey areas around the pool and a small patio area to the rear.
We also discovered several table tennis champs that never quite made it!
The beauty of this area is its rustic feel, with Tavira (good restaurants) being just a short drive, Spain is very close with Faro and Villamoura also being 30-40 mins drive,
The village of Santo Estevao offers most essentials, pharmacy, dining out and charming mini markets just a few minutes walk away.
The beaches are very nice and once parked, can be reached by foot, miniature train or even water taxi but a car is almost essential whilst staying in this area.
There are dogs at Casa Moinho but they are the most loveable dogs ever. Our son was frightened of dogs and water, but after our first visit he overcame both those fears....and now looks forward to a return...so thank you.
Each to his own, but we would certainly recommend a stay or two, or three......

We stayed in the Pool House and were delighted with everything - the facilities were excellent and as the nights were chilly, we especially enjoyed having a real log fire. The gardens were a delight and we spent a lot of time admiring the gorgeous blooms, often from our poolside chairs. The stunning location with its impressive entrance drive made it a pleasure to 'come home' each day after visiting the lovely towns and villages thereabouts. Cynthia was very welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. She recommended some excellent local restaurants in St Luzia including Canta Azul and Vincents, which were both great. We will certainly go back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

Owners Response: Thank-you for your comments, I am pleased that despite the rather fickle weather which restricted your golf to one day because of the showers you were happy and comfortable. Casa Moinho was recommended to us a few years ago by a work colleague and we have stayed in the pool house twice. We are a family with three teenage lads who enjoy a place where you can relax and chill out taking advantage of a wonderful large pool mostly to ourselves or just one or two other people. Table tennis to be enjoyed when the need for abit of exercising needed other than swimming. Some fabulous beaches near by reached by a land train or little fishing boat. Good food round and about in many restaurants but also in the village a couple of minutes walk away in Santo Estevao (booking advisable). Cynthia the owner cannot do enough for you to ensure your holiday is perfect . A car a must though.....

Owners Response: Thank-you for your review, it gives me great pleasure to know that Casa Moinho and its surroundings can provide the holiday everyone looks forward to throughout the year.
The beach at Barril and the little train that takes you to the beach over the area protected for wild-life is unique., and very popular with the little children (and some of the bigger ones). Many good friends have been made and I look forward to seeing them again
Cynthia

Algarve Portugal Casa Moinho Sao Estevao

Date Submitted: March 25, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We have made at least one annual visit to Casa Moinho for the last 15 years. We know it very well and can recommend it without any hesitation.
So, if you are looking for an area that, by today's standards is unspoiled, has beautiful beaches within easy reach, has countless restaurants close by, has Faro and the gate way to Spain (Vila Real) half hour's drive away, has the gem of the Algarve, Tavira, "just down the road" then this area is for you.
Within this delightful area is the lovely little village of Sao Estevao, and hidden within this is Casa Moinho.
Whilst it is not exactly "off the beaten track" the immediate surrounding areas are cultvated gardens which provide privacy and no noisy neighbours.
The Pool House is well designed providing ample shade when required from the Algarve sun. The kitchen and lounge areas separate the two bedrooms which are both en suite.
Olive Tree has a unique character, with a balcony that provides excellent views over open countryside.
Both apartments share a swimming pool that you can actually swim in. For the number of people using it, 6 at a maximum, it is enormous!
Both Pool House and Olive Tree are spaceous, clean, and like the swimming pool, well maintained.
Cynthia, who lives on site, helps create a happy and relaxed atmosphere and is always pleased to give advice and directions.

Any bad points, none that I can think of, but in my opinion a car is a must.
