We had a wonderful time staying at this villa during the first two weeks in October. The weather was a little changeable with a couple of rainy days but on the whole it was hot and sunny during the day and cool in the evenings.
Maura catered very well for our little one (10months old), providing a highchair and travel cot for us at the villa and the large living room was the perfect place for her to crawl around and play which was great. The villa is comfortably furnished and the kitchen has everything (and more) you could need in terms of pots/pans/crockery/cutlery.
We visited all the places recommended in the folder and loved them all - the towns all have beautiful old towns and the surrounding scenary is stunning. We didn't go to the coast much so I can't comment much on that although as did make it there once and found the sea to be a whole lot warming than the villa's swimming pool which we were quite surprised about!
All in all a great break for the three of us, thank you for letting us stay there!

We wanted a nice villa where we could a enjoy a "chill out" week but with interesting sights nearby if we felt the urge to venture out , and we got exactly what we wanted. It was lovely having the various outdoor areas- the dining table with a huge shade which made it usuable all day , the gazebo near the pool which made relaxing by the pool in 40+ degree heat a treat rather than a chore- and all with beautiful views of the Puglian countryside.
A very pleasant surprise were the fantastic Supermarkets within a short drive, particularly the ultra modern air condtioned one on the way to Locorotondo they complimented the lovely local shops in the nearby towns very well.
The local restaurant delivering fantastic fresh pizzas at a very reasonable price was a very nice feature .
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this villa to anyone wanting a base from which to see some of Puglia or if you want a quiet break .

We are now back from our perambulations round Italy and France and I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Villa Capalu. Your instructions were spot on and your suggestions as to where to visit really helpful - and your comments coincided exactly with our subsequently formed views of our own. The instructions in the villa were comprehensive and comprehensible, the welcome pack was extremely generous. The villa was itself very well equipped - we could not think of anything we lacked - and the pool was lovely (size, position and temperature.
Alan's two visits (when we arrived and the day before we left) were well timed and useful. The cleaning family had assumed we were arriving by air and were a bit surprised by our arrival at 4pm, but they recovered beautifully - a nice family. And Angelo was all that you said he was - we had a memorable meal there with our youngest son and his fiancee, when there was a teenage party with karaoke, in which as buttoned up Brits we were surprised to find ourselves taking part.
All in all, a great pleasure staying at Villa Capalu, which was the highlight of our month long holiday and which we can strongly recommend to our friends

We knew the holiday would be good before we even got there because of the customer care and attention to detail from the owner right from the onset. We arrived late at night following the detailed directions the owner had provided which took ua right to the door. Our first reaction was how big the property was, how clean and well laid out and how thoughtful of the owners, given that we had arrived at night to provide a generous welcome pack with bread, cheese, wine etc. Next morning we woke up and it was even better in daylight. When we opened the bedroom shutters the view across the valley took our breath away and we saw what a truly beautiful location we were in. When we investigated the rest of the property it just got better and better. The villa was everything that we wanted and more - spacious, clean, private, comfortable, relaxing, well positioned, well planned, great pool, lots of terraces and a beautiful old olive tree right in the middle of the biggest terrace to provide shade when needed.
When we could drag ourselves away from the villa we visited the lovely old towns nearby and sampled the local foods, wine, ice cream (fantastic) and felt we got a taste of 'real Italy'. There is not one particular thing we could say was the highlight, the whole holiday was a highlight and we cannot wait to go back again and explore the area further. We had the best holiday ever and will be recommending it to our family and friends and look forward to returning ourselves next year.

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday, the villa is beautiful and thoughtfully equipped, the area is amazing and we visited all the local villages/towns but only as far as Ostuni. We thought of going farther afield but really why bother? A particular highlight was the beautiful pool which we and the children (aged 4 and 6) could not have enjoyed more. We had the Lonely Planet Guide with us which I don't think did the area justice but the restaurant recommendations were fairly reliable. We particularly enjoyed La Locanda di Zia Rosa in Cisternino (a very informal family run restaurant) and La Cantina in Alberobello (a bit slicker and more commercial/touristy but still very good). For an evening out we loved Cisternino or Martina Franco.
We visited the caves in Castellana (long tour 3km we all coped fine despite being told before hand it was very humid) and though not experts have done similar tours in Mallorca and Lanzarote and the Castellana caves are orders of magnitude better. We also visited the Zoosafari which has a remarkable in the number of rare animals on display (we live next door to a safari park in Stirling so have a comparison) probably better not go into the ethics of it etc. but the children loved it.
There are no negatives at all 5/5. It was hot and there were mosquitoes (which loved me and Ian but not the children) but that is no reflection on the property. We will definitely come back, but try our luck in October, maybe next year?

Great levels of communication prior to the holiday just whetted the appetite, and the outcome did not disappoint.
The villa is just perfect - well appointed, comfortable, good facilities. Great pool. Fantastic location - not only on the hillside with lovely views, but also in relation to the interesting towns and attractions around.
There are some wonderful historic town centres in all directions, and each one has its own charm and character.
The villa is perfectly placed to access much of the heel of Italy.
The local representative Alan was brilliant - informative and helpful, but never intrusive. Good to know that somebody friendly and competent is on hand in case of problems - even though we had none.
We just loved the area. The weather was kind to us, and on the only grey and windy day we went down the spectacular caves at Grotte di Castellana.
The owner provided comprehensive notes at the villa (very helpful), and the great starter pack of food and wine. We had a nightmare journey down by train (never again!) so didn't get to the villa till about 21:30, so to find some provisions already there was most welcome.
We had such a wonderful holiday, and we'll have many happy memories for years to come.
Highly recommended.

We had just a perfect week in the villa in this lovely area.
We had a lot of fun looking forward to this week, because we had so much information of Maura and it was even better than we expected! We had beautiful weather and enjoyed just staying at the property, but we also did not want to miss all the beautiful things in the area. We went to Lecce, to Putignano al Marre (like a fairy-tale), to Alberobello and also to the beautiful Caves. Also Bari was really exciting especially when the Bari football team had won it was a real party. We are looking back to a beautiful holiday and thank Maura for having us hiring the villa! We love to come back again.

Our hillside villa (Capalu) provided a wonderful panorama of the local countryside. The location was perfect for exploring the province of Puglia and was located between two major airports; one in Bari and the other in Brindisi. Our travels included many of the suggestions given by the owners of the villa. Included were day trips to cities/towns on the Adriatic Coast such as Polignano a Mare as well as inland suggestions such as Alberobello and Matera. All of our planned travels were compared to the owners' suggestions found in the villa. They were right on the mark. The villa was clean and comfortable. and the local on-site person was a good resource. All in all this was a very positive experience. The only thing we needed was more time!

We also arrived in the dark and managed to find the villa using the directions provided by Maura.
On arrival we were very impressed with the villa as a whole - nice and spacious, clean, comfortable, with everything provided to make it easy to feel at home!! Once we had unpacked we were feeling a little peckish, so we took a 5 minute drive down to Angelo's restaurant. He was very welcoming and prepared a delicious pizza for each of us, along with a couple of bottles of beer, all to take away, which was very impressive as it was getting on for midnight!!
The next morning we ventured out on to the terrace and down by the pool and admired the beautiful views. Alan popped over and was very friendly and helpful, with a wide knowledge of the area.
During our week long stay, we visited Alberobello, where we admired the beautiful Trulli views and visited the Cantina of course in Locorotondo, where we purchased a 5 litre bottle of delicious wine for 7 euros!
We also visited Bari and Lecce for a spot of shopping (and the occaisional ice-cream along the way!).
The local shops were very good - we stayed in a few nights and had a BBQ, which was very nice!
We also visited the caves which was very interesting - although the only tour available for the time that we got there was in Italian (there were English tours available later in the day) so we were just guessing what the tour guide ws saying! It was very enjoyable anyway!
Eating out was very reasonable, and delicious; we returned to Angelo's for anti-pasti and could not fault it - so many dishes, they just kept coming out, all delicious!!
We also spent some time relaxing by the pool during the day.
The four of us (all aged 25 and 26) had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in Italy, and would definately recommend this villa to anyone! We would love to come back as there were still some places that we didn't get a chance to visit.
It was a lovely holiday, Maura was so helpful and there is lots of information in the villa with ideas of day trips and eating out.
A lovely holiday!!!

This was a perfect place for two hard working professionals to relax and unwind from their busy jobs. In fact, it was so perfect that we hardly moved from our sun loungers - we just moved our position from the upper terrace in the morning to the lower terrace in the afternoon by the poolside! The owner was incredibly helpful with all our dealings with her and Alan was a useful person to have close by to tell us tips - such as visiting the Cantinas to get 5 litres of wine for 6 euros - yes, it was that cheap and it was lovely! We did venture out to Alberello for the local market which was huge and also to the local caves for a cloudy afternoon. On the whole we had great weather which was a nice escape from rainy Scotland! We also had a very authentic Italian meal at Angelo's restaurant which is well worth a visit. All in all, a brilliant place to go, it was our first time in Italy but we'll probably go back to the villa as it was just what we were looking for.

This is a lovely well-equipped villa in a beautiful setting, and will easily take up to 4 adults or a family. There's plenty of room inside, and outside more than enough for everyone to have their own space. We lazed in the sun by the pool, with BBQs and home-delivered pizzas (!) in the evenings. There's the coast nearby, plenty to see elsewhere and the roads (by comparison to other regions of Italy we've visited) are quiet. Shops restaurant bar etc very close. Tranquil but not lonely. An excellent place to relax and recharge.
The owner is very helpful and friendly.
We generally holiday in Italy but rarely go back to the same destination twice, although this might be an exception!

Wonderful Puglia, wonderful villa. Comfortable yet extremely spacious, beautiful views across the valley, nice pool, lots of terraces for sunbathing, eating or just viewing and a really interesting location. Add in an organised, efficient and caring owner and you have the perfect rental. Lovely towns to visit in the area - Locorotundo, Altorobello (a UNESCO site and really a sight to behold!) and lovely lidos and beaches. "Trulli" recommended (a little Puglia joke for you there!!).

What a gem. Yes, the best way to describe this property and it's location. Our family of five (3 children) arrived at the villa in the dark and travel weary after following the excellent directions provided by the owner, Maura. A quick tour of the villa and it's grounds left us pleasanty suprised by the ample room provided by the property before unpacking and retiring for the night.
It was the next morning when my wife and I truly discovered that we had chosen the right place for our holiday. On opening the front door, or was it the window shades, the view over the valley bowled us over. The green of the scenery dotted with bright white properties and the nearby village of what we soon were to discover of San Marco on the hilltop. We found that the rooms of the villa were bright, clean, very comfortable and airy, and the trullo kitchen was well equipped and exquisite. Outside the grounds really came into their own, the kitchen and poolside terraces were very spacious with plenty of shaded areas. My wife took a shine to taking her siesta under the olive tree. The terraced garden complemented the villa with it's well cared for and naturally growing shrubs and fruit trees which we sampled and enjoyed. We spent a fair amont of time relaxing on the terraces while the boys enjoyed endless hours of fun in the pool, in fact that took some prising out of it when the time came to explore the area.
The great thing about this properties location is proximity to some beautiful hilltop towns with their outstanding architecture, history, bars and restaurants. Alberobello, Ostuni, Martina Franca, etc all within 30mins drive. Don't miss the chance to take in the local markets, some great bargains to be had. And the coast is but a short drive away also. There is also the safari park for an enjoyable day out for those with younger family members.
Locally, there is an excellent rosticceria serving local pugliese cuisine at good value, the mini market also has good quality local produce if you wish to cater for yourself and there is an excellent supermarket just outside Locorotondo (20 min).
We would not hestitate renting this villa again and recommend it to anyone wishing to see rural Italy at it's best.

Owners Response: San Marco is a beautiful little village right on top of the hill on other side of the valley, which you can see, church spire and all, from the terrace. Directly across also is a tiny hamlet called Cocolicchio which is known locally as ‘Picolo Alberbello’ (little Alberobello) because of its cluster of Trulli ( including a Trullo church) and if you are feeling energetic or want to burn off some calories after an ‘al fresco’ lunch on the terrace, it is worth the 10 minute walk down through the vineyard.
In addition to the markets/supermarkets you can also buy good quality local red/white wine directly from the cantinas, in whatever quantity you want, at a fraction of the price you would pay at home. The nearest cantina is only 10 minutes away and our local English speaking rep can provide details/directions.
We have also made 'special' arrangements with the local restaurant to deliver pizza/local produce which is particularly useful after a long day travelling/sightseeing - menus/price lists are left in the villa

We have returned and managed to survive driving on Italian roads - it wasn't too bad but they do seem to measure their masculinity by how fast and how often they can overtake any cars in front of them.
The villa was lovely and the views across the valley to Cocolichio and towards the sea from the road to Fasano were wonderful.
Allan was a nice chap and although we didn't need to bother him while we were there we did feel he was available to provide as much or as little help/advice as needed.
All the Italian foods I love especially Parma ham and other cooked meats and they are much cheaper and better than here.
Matera was very interesting and the caves at Castellana were amazing............it is worth the visit and paying the extra for the longer tour which takes in the white cave................real "journey to the center of the earth stuff"
The restaurant with all the flags in Canale di Piro was Ok but L'Antica di Fasano's anti pasto was excellent.....15 delicious dishes. We had pizza's from me Gusto twice as they were so good.
It would have been a wonderful time except for the one thing that no one can control.........the weather ! Sunday to Tuesday was hot and sunny but Weds right up to the moment we got on the plane to come home was wet and cloudy. The storms kept rolling in with torrential rain and the thunder and lightning was so bad it tripped the trip switch in the villa twice.
The villa, the food, the friendly people, the interesting local towns were all wonderful................we just had rotten luck with the weather

We had a great time, thanks very much, and Alan was very kind and helpful. Obviously the weather helped a lot, and really made the terraces and pool so attractive, it meant that the holiday was very, very relaxing.
The location was perfect and exceptionally relaxing, especially breakfast (late morning!) under the olive tree.
The local restaurant was great, as both you and Alan had suggested, and very handy. The directions for the one in Alberobello were not great, we wasted 45 minutes and still couldn't find it!! A road name or the specific sports centre (there are 2!) might be useful for future guests interested. The pizza place on the hill on the main road was very good; friendly, efficient and value for money. As you had said, the local shop was also superb.
A great time, we would love to come again!!
Thanks very, very much,

Our holiday was great.
Two years ago we hired a villa in Portugal through the same site that yours is on and we thought that was good. Yours however exceeded our expectations and it was exactly what we were looking for. The villa was great and I cannot give any suggestion of how to improve. The area was also better than we thought prior to going. Needless to say the locals and everyone we met were also so friendly. We saw Angelo at the local restaurant and enjoyed it there as well as Darazinna (I think that is how it is spelt) in Savelettri. By far though we enjoyed Gli Ulivi the best, it was outstanding.
We feel we had such good weather that we were able to relax so much and unwind that we did not see many if any of the historical sites that you suggested. Yes we did take a few car rides to the local towns and villages and they were great. The only historical place we went to from the villa was a day trip to Pompeii and that was something different, albeit a long day out. You may recall that we started our holiday with two days in and around Rome before driving south, which we also enjoyed so much.
To be honest we enjoyed the whole experience so much that, we are talking about purchasing something for ourselves.
Alan was a good person to have close by and Johnathon was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction for other things.
Thanks again for hiring us your villa. It was fantastic

This place is fantastic! i have stayed here for a full weeks holiday and a long weekend now and i absolutely loved both stays!
The villa is great and the views from the terraces are beautiful!
we spent most days down at the beach (and there are a few to chose from) enjoying the sun and once we were fed up of the sand we stayed at the villa sunbathing on the terraces and sitting by the pool! it was so relaxing and the weather was amazing (went for a week in early july and it was 30 most days and for a long weekend in october and we were still swimming in the pool)
The villa had everything we needed and was a really comfortable stay. There is a local shop which does food and drink and a larger supermaket not far away.
In the evening we went exploring in the local and nearby towns. I must recommend a trip to Alberobello (i think i spelt that right) which is just down the road. there were loads of great places to eat and was lovely to look around.
i cant say enough good things about this place, its really captured me and i would go back again and again.
There were maps and info provided in the villa so we could find out way around which was really helpful and booking this up was really easy - the lady who owns and runs the villa was really lovely to deal with.
its safe to assume i highly recommend this to anyone!
