Lovely Stay

We had an excellent time at Direen! There were 5 of us in my group. We had more than enough room for each other (to have our seperate time) and all our stuff. The cottage had everything we needed. It felt like home and was so nice to come back to at night after traveling around all day. Very clean and organized. The woodwork around the house is fabulous. There are so many things close by that we were never at a loss for things to do. Connor Pass wasn't far and was always an exciting trip to Dingle.
Direen is secluded so it's quiet and beautiful. In the summer it would be awesome to sit outside and enjoy. Might have to plan that for next time! Thank you so much Eamonn and Janet. I really appreciate your time and care in making our trip wonderful.

A peaceful paradise

Direen Cottage was a delight in every way. The cottage was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented, and Janet and Eammon did everything they could to make us feel welcome. We were blessed with perfect weather for our week long stay and the trip over the Conor Pass to Dingle each day was always a highlight. Sea kayaking at Dingle was great fun and we got a close up look at Fungi the Dingle dolphin. We also took a cruise out to the Blasket Islands and this was really spectacular. There is a great range of traditional music in the pubs in Dingle, and we went to O'Flaherty's at the suggestion of the owner of the traditional music shop in Dingle (who happened to be an O'Flaherty!)
For a quiet haven in this truly spectacular, special part of Ireland you simply can't go wrong with Direen Cottage.
If only it were closer to home (Australia!) the Dingle Peninsula would be an annual holiday destination.

A wonderful rural retreat.

Our first family holiday in Ireland, and what a gem we found! Well equipped and spacious enough for 7 adults (or grown up teenage children) Direen cottage is nestled nicely between the sea and the mountains, so has something for everyone.

The charming fishing village of Brandon is just up the road, and the more touristy Dingle is just the other side of the Connor Pass (which is worth stopping at the top for the views of both side of the peninsula).

A great central base to explore other parts of Kerry, or even further afield! Whether you want mountain walking, fishing, birdwathing, or just walks on the beaches, and enjoying beer and food in the pubs, Direen makes a great base.

Highlights for us included climbing Carrantouhill, and the boat trip to the Skelligs.

A fabulous holiday, thank you Janet & Eamonn!

A fantastic stay at Direen Cottage

My wife, children (11,7,4) and I were fortunate enough to enjoy a 2 week holiday in West Kerry, basing ourselves at Direen Cottage. The cottage is traditional but with all the modern comforts one could hope for. In big grounds, it is very private and the kids had a blast in the fields and around the little stream nearby.

Cloghane is close by with pubs and a small store. Castlegregory and Dingle are also a short drive away with larger supermarkets. The drives, hikes and sightseeing are fantastic. Weather permitting, a day on the beach is also very nearby. Day trips to Killarney and onto the Ring of Kerry are all within range.

Eamonn and Janet are perfect hosts, getting us settled in and being available with their knowledge of the area and other advice if requested. They were extremely kind to us all throughout our stay.

We had a fantastic holiday here and hope to return as soon as we can.

Wonderful wintertime in Direen Cottage

Our family with three kids (18,16,14 years) stayed here for a wonderful, romantic week while the snow covers Dingle Peninsula. Janet and Eamonn prepared their cottage quite nice with love for details. Everything was clean and in full function. The cottage is a quiet place ideal for recreation and a perfect plattform for nice trips as well. We love Dingle Peninsula because here you will find all the best of Ireland in short distances: landscape from mountains to sea and a living dolphin as well. The people living there are friendly and very sympathic. We are shure: We will come back to Direen Cottage and to Janet and Eamonn. Thanks for your warm welcome.

We have had a fantastic stay at Direen Cottage,we were impressed by the high levels of comfort offered by Janet and Eamanon from all the usual mod cons like sky TV, dish washer, washing machine ,to toys for my granddaughter and peat for the fire in the evenings.
There is so much to see and do in the area if you then add the truly amazing hospitality of the locals you can only feel sorry when it is time to leave.

Direen Cottage is lovely, comfortable. It is cosy , clean, well maintained, spacious. Kitchen very well equiped. Huge garden. Lots of English books, games ; peat fires for the evenings. Beautiful area (sea, mountains, countryside (I love the fuschia hedges). Great area for walking, hiking, cycling, surfing. Do not buy the "Cloghane & Brandon walking guide" : it is available at the cottage. Spar supermarket at Castelgregory. Taking the Conor Pass to go to Dingle is a thrill !The best holiday house we've stayed in. Thanks Janet, Eamonn, for the hospitality. Perfect place. Really a magical first (but not last !) trip to Ireland for us. Thanks for everything.

June in Dingle

Date Submitted: June 13, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My family stayed at the cottage at the end of May and beginning of June, 2009. Janet and Eamonn had made up the ground floor sitting room as a bedroom for my mother, who walks with a cane. The house is great, comfortable, plenty of room, very well maintained, very reasonable rates (especially for what you get!), and is in an absolutely beautiful area. It's quiet and out of the way, but still near to loads of things to do. The Dingle Peninsula is absolutely beautiful. We were fortunate to have above average temperatures and even got suntans on the beach, which is only about 5 minutes away. I would recommend the house for families, children, and people who might have a harder time getting around. The ground floor bathroom is specifically set up for disabled access. But my 6-year old loved it too! Janet and Eamonn were available if needed but were not intrusive at all. Plus if you make it to the farmer's market on Friday Janet makes some incredible soda bread that you can buy! We had a great stay.

We enjoyed the quietness & comfort of this nice cottage surrounded by a true natural garden where a couple of Robin's birds welcomed us each morning ! the beautifull scenery to get to Dingle, the welcome of the inhabitants and the local pubs ambiance, the nice wild beaches all around allowed us to make a perfect break from our stress cities lives. We'd highly recommend this place for family who are seeking for quietness & a return to nature. You will definitely need a car to walk around but the drive to Dingle is worth it At Dingle (about 20' drive) you 'll find all you need in super U store and many places to have a good lunch or dinner (delicious fresh fish !!) For the cottage itsself, don't take any blankets/sheets/towels.. there's plenty in the house; the basic cooking element are in the kitchen (coffee, tea, sugar, oil, vinegar etc..!)and the washing machine & Dish washer were very useful with a family of 5 and there are plenty of
English books and all local information stored in a cosy salon
Thank you to the owner for her sense of home cosiness !

Best house I have stayed at in Ireland lovely owners really helpful they left us fresh eggs and wine. The house is spacious with a huge garden and paddock. There is a whole wall of books. The dining room is gorgeous and there are candles and open fires. There are all the usual mod cons like sky TV dish washer washing machine. The kitchen is large and well equiped. There is so much to see in the area. I liked it so much I have been back twice since and plan to go again as soon as I can. It is better than the description and especially good if you are looking for peace and quiet, lovely, ahhhh.. I thoroughly recommend it

Ideal home from home retreat

Sea lady Pembrokeshire.
Date Submitted: June 26, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
I and a friend and colleague have now made three visits to Direen for a combination of business and holiday reasons. We have been impressed by the high levels of comfort offered by the amenities with a feeling of welcome and homeliness (eg the books and games that are available in the parlour). The cottage has been an ideal base for exploring and comforting to return to if the weather hasn't been too good - although on the whole it's been lovely, even out of season, for most of the time. There is a ground floor wet room for returning surfers (local huge surf beach very near by) or for people unable to use the stairs - there is also the possibility of using a ground floor bedroom although disabled access may be difficult for some, owing to small steps into the house. The owners have invariably been welcoming, kind and helpful and we have recommended the property to friends and family - we hope to return next year as a larger group. Local archaeology is superb as are the geology, marine life and scenery. Dingle has lovely restaurants and shops and Fungi the dolphin - always great to see him. Direen is now one of our favourite destinations.

Our first trip to Ireland, my dream. Our first week..Direen.
Janet's home was all I had imagined (for a year now) and much more! Perfect location as walking is a grand thing, and garden was wonderful! Peat was an incredible experience and I even brought some peat while I was there. Conor pass was a thrill! So nice to come home to Direen every night! Description was accurate if not doing the place total justice! Clean, totally so. Yard and view we voted best in show! I love the clothes line experience, REALLY. Thank you so much, Janet, for your warm welcome. I wish we had made time to meet your dad, his carving was extremely impressive! Make sure to check out the Railway station pub; Brandon; Conor pass; and the Fuchia Hedges, stream and walks at Direen. I took 600 pictures that week alone, and will send them on to Janet.
Thank you so much for a lifelong realized dream. I could not have chosen a better home than Direen!

Direen Delight

Date Submitted: April 17, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
Direen cottage is very comfortable with plenty of space for a family of 4-6. It's private and set in a large garden which is lush although somewhat dark. It has a great bench which catches the morning sun and a peat fire for the evenings! It's about 10 minutes walk from a magnificent beach on way and about 20 minutes drive in the other direction to the idyllic Brandon Pier where we enjoyed mackerel fishing, Guinness, pier jumping and unbelievable scenery all at once. Owner Janet Murphy is incredibly hospitable, sharing the prolific contents of her vegetable garden. Catch her too on her home-made cakes stall at Dingle market! The house is well positioned just off a relatively quiet road with easy access over the mountains to Dingle or back along the peninsula. Bikes would have been useful there as the nearest shop/pub is a good half hour walk away. We used it as a base to surf, fish, walk and dive and would love to go back.
