Our best vacation in Europe to date

Jason and Monica   Germany.
Date Submitted: August 03, 2009   Date of Stay: July 2009
My family and I have travelled all over the European continent to places such as Rome, Paris, Venice, London, Mallorca, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Without question, our stay at The Loher Beach House was by far our favorite place, so far. The views from this true get-away would not be done justice with mere words. But, if I must, the views are spectacular. Ballinskelligs Bay, the countryside and surrounding wildlife provided the perfect setting for some much needed rest and relaxation. Aside from the picturesque landscape, the home itself was truly marvelous. A fantastic kitchen with the best amenities made cooking meals for our family of 6 a delight. We found the quaint, seaside town of Waterville to provide adequate supplies for cooking gourmet meals in a home with solid granite counters, full stove, conventional oven, convection oven and dishwasher. We were surprised to find a very clean and comfortable living arrangement with ample space for our family to spread out. Comfortable beds, clean and well maintained bathrooms with full tile and plenty of hot water made our evenings enjoyable after long days of exploring Kerry. Port Magee, Cahirciveen and all places in between welcomed us with warm smiles and friendly conversation. The local residents were very warm and kind as the welcomed us into their corner of paradise. Some of our favorite restaurants include The Red Fox Inn, on N70 just past Killorglin and The Blind Piper on N70 just past Waterville on the way to Kenmare. In Kenmare, we recommend the Seafari, a boat trip through the bay capped off with complimentary coffee and whiskey.

If it's golf you're after...ask and ye' shall receive. There are two local courses to choose from; The Links at Waterville, a top 5 in Europe course, or Skellig Bay Golf Club which you pass through on your way to house. We found the course so breathtaking that we spent as much time taking pictures as we did swinging clubs. The staff was incredible and friendly. If you can't bring your own clubs, not to worry, they provide Titleist clubs for rent.

The owners of this property were friendly, quick to respond and facilitated a special request for a bottle of champagne on our anniversary. The monetary transactions were seamless and the return of our deposit was without delay. We would recommend this property to anyone who wishes to truly enjoy a relaxing vacation with good food, good golf, great Guiness, stunning views and friendly people.

Happy Holidays!

Mary&Jeff   Bulkington, Warks, UK.
Date Submitted: July 19, 2009   Date of Stay: May 2009
We have recently returned from a weeks holiday at Loher Beach House (June 09). We had an amazing time there. The bungalow was beautifully maintained, exceptionally spacious, tastefully and comfortably furnished with every modern convenience, and had stunning views of the sea and hills all round! It's the best holiday let we've ever stayed in.

We had a whole week of glorious sunshine and had the added bonus seeing dolphins jumping and feeding in the bay at the front of the house, and at Waterville on consecutive days.
We really can't find fault with any aspect of the house or location.

Personally we enjoyed not travelling too far on any given day, but preferred to stay fairly local (quality over quantity so to speak). Derrynane beach is a lovely place to visit for a swim, paddle, or to explore the ruins of an old abbey. We had a go at horse riding on Derrynane beach- what fun, and such a lovely way to see the surrounding area.

Most days-morning or early evening, we walked down the road leading from the house, and either strolled along Loher beach, and/or followed the road along to enjoy the beautiful views across the bay and lovely flora and fauna.

Later in the evenings we enjoyed relaxing with a glass of wine watching the beautiful sunset across the bay. The tranquil light blue sea had an almost metallic-luminous quality that is firmly etched in our memories.

If we could only choose one excusion from the house (and there are plenty) we would choose the boat trip to the Skelligs. It has to be one of the most wonderful sights in the world. It would not be an overstatement to say it was an awesome experience.
In addition, we also met some really friendly local people and tourists alike- exchanging stories and experiences with each other.

If you choose to stay at Loher Beach House, you will not be disappointed. We had the time of our lives.
Happy Holidays!

Magical holiday home and location

Huge   Huntingdon.

What a great holiday! We think Loher Beach House bungalow is superb, virtually new and exceedingly well appointed with all the luxuries of home and more but with views from the lounge that you would die for back home. The garden is huge and beautiful, in just 6 minutes we could walk to the sea.
For those who love a game of golf, to go walking, fishing or just to chill out this is the ideal holiday home in what my wife and I believe is the best locations in Ireland. We stayed for a week in June, the weather was fantastic, we walked we fished, relaxed and had a truly memorable holiday.
Highly recommended.

September holiday at Loher Beach House

Richard and I just loved this house and its location. We thought the house itself was beautifully furnished throughout and had all the touches to make it a perfect holiday home - the magazines - the sound system - the books - the lovely outside space and all the home from home gadgets. The area was outstanding with walks from the door along country lanes with stunning scenery and a lovely rugged beach just a few hundred yards away. I would highly recommend this beautiful home.

Review of the Allen House, Waterville, Ireland

JMD   Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Date Submitted: July 02, 2008   Date of Stay: May 2008
My wife and I were a little apprehensive about renting a house off the internet and travelling from the U. S. to Ireland for a week. However, when we got there, we were most pleasantly surprised. Everything was PERFECT. The house was wonderfully situated on a country road about two miles from the center of Waterville, a small town in the southwest corner of Ireland. The house is new and has all of the finest and most modern appliances. The housekeeper was very attentive and able to answer all of our questions in a prompt and courteous manner. The view from the front of the house overlooking the Atlantic and the islands was magnificant. We took daily walks down the road in front of the house and were able to meet some of the neighbors, who were very friendly. A short drive took us into Waterville, where we encountered fine restaurants, a grocery store and shopping. Of course, the world famous Waterville Golf Links is about 10 minutes away. A closer golf course is also available for play. We travelled to nearby Kenmare, Valencia, Portmagee, and the Aran Islands for shopping, sightseeing, and just "vegging out." It was a great vacation. We will definitely go again and stay at the Allen house.

A lovely stay in the most beautiful surroundings

T&M   Alton Hants England..
Date Submitted: May 22, 2008   Date of Stay: April 2008
T&M Alton, Hants, England. April 2008.

We found the Bungalow very comfortable and welcoming, spacious and airy, with everything you could wish for in a holiday home. Placed just back from the seafront, with spectacular views all round and with lots of space for fun and relaxation in the garden. As an aside, the garden is shared with the local population of 'Hares' which are fascinating to watch.

We were looking for a walking holiday and we couldn't have found better. As a retired couple, the walks, both from the bungalow and indeed anywhere around the coast were magnificent and we had no difficulty in coping with the terrain. Some lovely restaurants in and around Waterville and surrounds, all with a great selection of fresh fish dishes, as you would expect in a coastal area. Sadly, we didnt take our golf clubs with us but the two championship courses at Waterville looked in splendid order and challenging, to say the least.

Thank you John and Ann for loaning us your beautiful retreat, we look forward to the next time.

A place of peaceful solitude and great scenery

Solemate   Ashtead, Surrey, England.
Date Submitted: February 12, 2008   Date of Stay: June 2007
The bungalow is extremely comfortable and well positioned for stunning views of Ballinskelligs Bay. To watch the seabirds (gannets) feeding is an awesome sight! The furniture and fittings are of the highest quality - a real home from home. The house was spotlessly clean.

We travelled to Kerry Airport and hired a car from Europcar for a week. The journey to the bungalow took about 2 hours although we stopped on the way for food. The roads are good and not too crowded - particularly in June when we visited.
Waterville is close enough to provide shops and restaurants - it can be walked but a car is a better bet and essential to take in the Kerry Ring scenery. The Oyster Bar in Waterville is a great venue for some local gossip on the latest catches - be it loch or sea. The food there is wholesome too, as is the Guiness!
There are plenty of local sporting facilities - golf, sea fishing from the beach and boat fishing from nearby Caheersiveen Harbour to mention a few. The walks around the bungalow are terrific and no traffic to speak of makes for peace and quiet.
A boat trip to the Skellig Rocks from Cahersiveen is a must if the weather is favourable. The tea shops and art shops in Sneem are well worth a visit, as is Killarney. Don't miss the views at Muckross and the pony/trap ride to the pass!!!

There is so much to see and do around this corner of Ireland that you can return again and again yet never be bored. The weather patterns change so often that in one day you can experience everything from sun to rain and the seascape is extraordinary as the colours change with the weather.

Thanks Ann and John for allowing us to use your home and for the chance to see this part of what is truly the Emerald Isle.

Extraordinary accomodation and setting

Emil   Tunbridge Wells.
Date Submitted: February 08, 2008   Date of Stay: June 2007
This stone cottage is completely modern, very warm, clean and beautifully finished with proper heating, first class cooking facilities and wonderful fixtures and fittings. Its a credit to the owners. The location is superb for the views, walks, beach fishing, sight seeking and the like. We were amazed to see hares in the garden and dolphins in the bay. I stayed at the cottage just after it was completed in September 2006 for the last week of the salmon and sea trout fishing season. I visited again in June 2007. The accomodation was faultless, unlike the weather, which failed to deliver the migrating fish for the week I was in Ireland. It did deliver the following week. Moral of this story...Take two weeks holiday here.

Wonderful Waterville

Roo   Twickenham, Middlesex, UK.
Date Submitted: February 08, 2008   Date of Stay: August 2007
Loher Beach House far exceeded our expectations, as the house and location is wonderful with breathtaking views over the bay. The house has been finished to a very high and luxurious standard and offers everything you need for your stay. The location really is idyllic - offering a relaxing and tranquil environment, yet only a short drive from the lovely town of Waterville, with great restaurants and local amenities.

There are lots of things to see and do in the area, which means there's something for everyone or just sit back and enjoy the view.

The house is a credit to the owners who are very easy to deal with and who go out of their way to ensure that you enjoy your stay, with recommendations on restaurants and places to see.

We loved it so much we've already rebooked for this year. I highly recommend the house and area - you won't be disappointed.
