Cas-Gwent, a superb base for your Maltese holiday

The house itself was very much as the description (and previous reviews) suggested. A well maintained & roomy home certainly not lacking in character

Situated just a few minutes stroll from the coastline and its bars, restaurants & supermarket.

Ground floor has plenty of lounging around opportunities for the exhausted or less energetic & tv worshippers.
Kitchen area is plenty big enough & elsewhere all rooms throughout the house were very clean and spacious with ample storage areas.

The Garden/Terrace areas are suntraps and offer a chance to soak up the atmosphere privately be it over a BBQ or just a recharging of the batteries interval during daytime events.

Plunge pool was ideal for our gang, naturally this could be more concerning with a two year-old amongst our party but our large gathering meant she was well observed at all times.

Loungers and seating around the garden came in useful at all times during the day, shut-off from everybody this offered a chance to quietly sit back and take in your own thoughts of what you wanted from the holiday be it purely relaxation or planning some trips for the days ahead etc…etc… the greenery out there & 90+ degree heat, were contributory factors of course in the enjoyment but it is a comfortable and secluded area from the breakfast with a cuppa, right through to a nighttime tipple (not that you’d sit there all day)

All the people we came into contact with Neil, Lino, Joe were happy to offer advice when asked but were not obtrusive in any way.

St Julians is an ideal setting for those wishing to explore more of what Malta has to offer. sitting mid-way on the east coast, most of Malta’s ‘attractions’ are within a reasonable distance / inexpensive costing from this location….but theres plenty to offer nearby too

Sliema & Paceville are reasonably short walks in either direction, with a regular bus service available however they can be overcrowded at times. Lino the cabbie will happily transport you around for the longer trips!!!

Our party of nine with an age range from 2y-o to 69 all enjoyed the week immensely and would have no reason not to recommend the house to others.

Lovely Traditional Villa !!!!

Thank you for renting us your lovely traditional villa in St Julians Bay, Malta. It was very comfortable and very quirky, doors going off from everywhere and the quirky stairs. The garden was beautiful and was a great sun trap and the plunge pool was very refreshing. Plenty of space for all of us. Ceiling fans were a blessing too as the heat rose to 33 degrees!
Ideally situated for getting to any area of St Julians, and fantastic for catching any of the numerous local bus services. Fantastic resturants, bays, pool and bars, also tourist booking shop. We have looked around most areas of Malta and have found that St Julians to be one of the best areas to stay in. The villa is a great credit to you.
We would definately use the villa again.
Best wishes
Julie and Michael Ray

We stayed in the house at the end of May/beginnning of June and had a wonderful time. We have been to Malta before (in August) and it was too hot, so the weather this time was much cooler.

The house is very well situated in a residental street, within a short walk of a supermarket, bus stops and the restaurants/bars of St Julians. From there you can pretty much anywhere in the island.

The house is full of character and well renovated. Everthing you can need is provided. There was plenty os space and it so nice to have any "outside space" with the garden and plunge pool.

Leno and Joe where very helpful.

We will be going back again.

A wonderful place to stay

We stayed in Cas-Gwent House in October 2008 while at my sister's wedding. It was our second time in Malta and my partner, I and our three teenage children all loved the house. It was a turly wonderful place to stay. Home from home with loads of space for us all, and satellite tv for the kids, and live football for me. The house has been beautifully restored and kept immaculately clean. The garden at the back is just heavenly and we were able to have a BBQ in the house after the wedding for all our family. There was about 20 people there and they all thought the house was fantastic. The large rooms all have high ceilings and fans. The roof terrace is also a lovely place to have breakfast, with the friendly neighbours waving over. Lino was our very helpful taxi driver and he put a smile on our face from the start. The house is only a 5 minute walk from the beautiful Spinola Bay and all it's restaurants. We would highly recommend Cas-Gwent House to anyone and we hope to get the opportunity to stay there again. Exceeding expectations

We rented the Gas Gwent house between 22 and 28 June 2009. Since the house was occupied on our arrival on the 21st June, Neil, the owner, recommended a good hotel for the first night. When we arrived on the airport Lino, the taxi driver, waited to take us to the hotel. Lino even brought a baby car seat wich was very appreciated. On the 22nd when we got access to the house, Lino came to the hotell and took all of our bags in the car. We definitely recommend people to use Lino!

When we entered the house, big smiles appeared in everybodys faces. The pictures on holday-rentals.co.uk does not make the house justice. The house has all you can ask for (except possibly a dischwasher) and is very cozy. The rooms are all big and fresh as are all the bathrooms. To the great relief of some of the people in the company, the house also ha a digital TV on which the U21 European football championship could be seen.

The garden was used for sunbathing, lunches, dinners, barbeques and of course pool bathing. Apart from the splash pool the garden also featured an inflatable childrens pool which we appreciated very much.

The house is situated on a very calm alley but with only a short walk down to Sinola bay and its restaurants and the busses that take you everywhere at in practice no cost at all.

We definitely recommend people to stay at the Gas Gwent house if they are going to Malta. Atleast we will do so the next time we visit Malta.

Having just returned from this beautiful house after a fortnight's stay I would recomend this property to all ages. Our party consisted of two thirty somethings, and three fifty somethings, even for younger people it is ideally situated as it is only a maximum of 10 minutes walk to Paceville.

The description of the house is spot on.

I found it ideal as you didn't need to hire a car, and the bus service is so regular (and an adventure at times, you should take a bus ride).

Neil's information before we left was a great help as regards to supermarkets etc. Also the arranging of a taxi to pick us up at the airport was one less headache. This is a great personal touch.

St Julians is a beautiful area, the house is a short walk to either Spinola or Balutta Bay. Sliema is also within walking distance.

It had been 10 years since I had visited Malta and not a great deal around the St Julians area had changed, although Paceville has been extensively developed.

Great house would love to visit again.

Cas Gwent - Wonderful

We stayed at this beautiful house in St Julians in September. The house was perfect and clean. The back garden was absolutely beautiful with the palm trees and plunge pool. The bedrooms were very clean and tidy. Overall the house has been maintained to a high standard. I holidayed with my Husband, Son, niece and their 2 friends who are 19 & 20. They also had a wonderful holiday there as it is so close to all the amenities of St Julians. Would definitely visit again. Neil the owner and Joe were very helpful in their advice.

Perfect Situation

My wife and I have just returned from an excellent two-week stay at Cas-Gwent House. We have been to Malta a few times over quite a few years and can honestly say this is the best accommodation we have stayed in.

The situation of the house is perfect, as you are only a short walk from the seafront, bars, restaurants, supermarket and the local bus services.

The house has been beautifully restored, with the garden area particularly nice, perfect for having breakfast or enjoying drinks in the cool of the evening. The kitchen is well supplied with everything you would need. One suggestion would be for some plastic glasses for outside use to avoid accidents with glass in the garden and pool area.

The temperature when we were there was constantly in the 30’s and it got very warm in the secluded garden area as there wasn’t much wind. We decided to go up and sit on the roof terrace and it was a little bit cooler with a nice breeze blowing. In the evenings we would go on the roof for a perfect view of the fireworks displays at the local festas.

The house itself was kept cool as there are plenty of fans in all the rooms and there is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space in the bedrooms.

We will return to Malta again soon and hopefully stay at Cas-Gwent House.

My Partner, son, father and myself rented this property for four days. It was our first time in Malta. The country and the people, beautiful and friendly. What made it even better, was that our accommodation was home away from home. It was well maintained, clean, had all the commodities. Shops, bars, restaurants are all within walking distance(about a five minute walk). We will be visiting Malta again nd Cas Gwent House will be our first choice. Always.

Holidaying in an old Maltese House

What a great experience we have had. This house has been lovingly renovated to make a comfortable home from home. There were 6 adults 2 children and one baby in this house for two weeks of a very hot August, with plenty of room not to be in each others way. The garden was wonderful for eating al-fresco every evening with a very well equipped kitchen. The children loved the plunge pool (and the adults too) after a busy day sightseeing. I would reccommend this house to family and friends. There is only one down side and that is the stone steps in the house, should they get wet they are very slippery. We had a very good holiday staying at Cas Gwent and look forward to returning in the near future. It is in a very good position only a short walk from the beach, supermarket and bus stops. Well worth a visit.

Cas-Gwent an Excellent Holiday Base

Date Submitted: August 17, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Have just returned from Malta. We were a family with teenage children. It was a welcome return for me after 29 yeas but a first for the rest of the family. We all thought the house was lovely and full of character. The outside courtyard garden was really nice. The plunge pool was what attracted us to the place when we booked it. It was better than the pictures. We cooled off in the 'pool' every day. The barbecue was well used and a great bonus . There was a lot of space and plenty of bathrooms! We would be more than happy to book again when we revisit Malta. Leno and Joe were really helpful, kind and particularly approachable.

Good Base for Holiday

Rlhk UK.
Date Submitted: July 22, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We have just returned from two weeks in Malta - my husband and I and our two teenage girls plus their two friends. We know Malta pretty well and found this property to be an excellent base, in a safe area, close to shops, bars and restaurants, cinema etc the bus stop only a couple of minutes away. This meant the girls could go to the cinema in the evening or to the ice-cream parlour at the bottom of the hill and we would not have to worry about buses or taxis home.

This is a traditional maltese town house and the owners have managed to convert the property into a modern living space but have managed to retain the character (which I love, as so many of these places are being torn down and blocks of flats or apartments being built instead) The rooms were all of a very good size with plenty of cupboard space and there were sufficient bathrooms to keep everyone happy. The little courtyard at the back of the house was lovely, as was the BBQ, and the garden area was well lit and made the most of the garden that was there. When sitting in the courtyard although you are only minutes from a busy tourist area (Spinola Bay) you can not hear any noise and it was a lovely area to sit in the evening enjoying a glass of wine or beer. The girls all loved the plunge pool and it quickly became the custom to jump in there after our return from a hot afternoon sightseeing. The property was clean and whilst we were visiting the maintenance person contacted us a couple of times to make sure everything was ok. The owner contacted us before departure to ask if we required transport from the airport, advise of the location of nearest supermarket etc and gave contact numbers of the maintenace and cleaner to contact should we have any problems whilst visiting.

This property did not feel like a holiday let - it felt like someones home, was it 100% perfect and pristine, no but it was extremely good and suited our requirements. The only minus to mention is that it does not have AC so it can be very warm in the height of summer but there are ceiling fans in all of the rooms.

A wonderful stay in a traditional Maltese house.

I stayed at Cas-Gwent at the end of April. I have been going to Malta for many years and this was the best property I have ever stayed in. Beautifully renovated, yet still with much charm, providing all you could need and more. The house is very comfortable, in a good location, a short walk from the seafront, supermarket and bus stop. The garden is an added bonus for relaxing in, with loungers, dining table and chairs and built in BBQ and we made good use of it. It's a little sun trap. Our party consisted of adults and April was not the month for using the plunge pool, but it is deep and so parents of young children would need to be vigilant, as with any water feature. All in all a very enjoyable week and I would not hesitate to return.

Malta break review

The hownhouse is full of character, located in a good position on the island, a short walk to the buses, ferrys, and good restaurants, clubs are also a short walk away if thats ur kind of thing! The house was clean, with every thing you need. I do have some concerns, the top bedroom attached to the roof has only plastic for a window, therefore i would not recommend families for obvious reasons. Also the stairs are quite slippery and the stairs up to the third floor/bedroom are i feel dangerous for children. The garden is lovely however the plunge pool (sorry) not suitable for children, differcult to get in and out. I would however suggest this property for groups/couples (adults) only.

Owners Response: I was a little disappointed to read this response. When I spoke to the lady shortly after her party of four adults had returned home she told me they were all delighted with everything at the house.

All her negative comments relate to 'not suitable for children' and yet there were no children in her party. The plastic window in the top room was obviously only a temporary measure as we had at that point not quite finished converting to an en-suite bedroom which involved putting in new and additional windows.

We have never found the stairway to be slippery and have never had comments from other guests to suggest this. The stairs are wide and flat and made of stone dating back 150 years.

Again the newly converted third floor bedroom (which is actually only the second floor) has the original spiral stone staircase going up to it. It's a double bedroom designed for adults not free roaming small toddlers. The children's twin bedroom is downstairs on the first floor next to the main bedroom.

Parents do know that small children must be supervised whether it be climbing stairs at home or on holiday. This of course applies to the plunge pool which is about 4 '6 ft to 5 ft deep.

Forgive me for rambling on a bit but I don't want you to be put off if you have young children.I feel these negative comments are totally unfair and the suggestion that the house is unsafe for children could not be more further from the truth. Many families have stopped at the house and we have never had a problem. It is after all, essentially a family house.
