Fantastic Family Holiday

Date Submitted: January 10, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2010
The description of the property was almost perfect. It was very clean and well-maintained. The service was fantastic; attentive and helpful. Lovely food and drink on arrival. Delicious meal too. Very clean and comfortable accommodation. I would recommend this holiday destination. We would return if the swimming pool was warmer. This was the biggest and only disappointment for us. It was not warm enough to really splash around in for long at all. I was hoping to teach my children to swim over the holiday and they both found it too cold. Lovely friendly owners.

Owners Response: Thank you Letty for your nice review.
I thought it appropriate to respond with regard to the temperature of the pool. It is true that we had three people during the period you stayed comment that the pool did not appear to be warm enough. We normally maintain the temperature at 26 degrees centigrade. At the time you were here the gauge was showing 26 degrees. These comments have lead me to believe that there was a problem during your visit as it is the first time in over 10 years that we have had any negative feedback. The pool was still in use during late October, early November on an almost daily basis with no comments on it being cold, however we will of course as is normal practice have the whole system checked out before the beginning of our season.
I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back to Mas San Julian another time to enjoy amongst other things a warm pool!

Mas san Julian, Thuir, near Perpignan

We had a fantastic time at mas san julian. Our two children (3 y/o and 1 y/o) enjoyed the freedom and independence Anna and Davids' lovely property and grounds offered. Mas san Julian has everything I look for in a holiday home - it was very clean; has the offer of all the extras you could think of (ranging from microwave to WiFi as well as all baby related kits, saving kilos on packing), but most importantantly, is in a stunningly beautiful location and has a wonderully relaxing atmostphere.

Perfectly relaxing property

back again North Yorkshire, UK.
Date Submitted: September 28, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
Our third visit to Mas San Julian and our hosts once again extended a warm and friendly welcome. With new and improved facilities, beautifully furnished and well maintained lodges and gardens, not forgetting the pool and fully equipped play barn keeping parents and children equally well entertained. Extra tips from Anna and David really help with negotiating the local roads, finding the best restaurants and seasonal attractions. We have already recommended to friends and continue to do so. We will certainly be revisiting this perfectly relaxing property!

We stayed one week in September 2010 with a group of 7 people and used Mas San Julian as our "BaseCamp". We were riding our motorbikes throughout the Oriental Pyrenees each day.

The property was ideal for our purpose, the owner was very easy going and provided everything needed. The appartment was clean and everything was found as described.

We enjoyed our time and are certainly thinking visiting the property again in the future.

Mas San Julian

Date Submitted: September 22, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
Our recent stay at mas san Julian was a fantastic family holiday experience. We have 2 young children. The property was clean, the layout exactly as has been described and all optional extras that we had asked for supplied. Due to the safety of the pool area, outdoor play area & indoor play area, it was the most relaxed family holiday that we've had.
David and Anna are wonderful hosts (organised an evening meal and wine tasting) and provided us with loads of information on what to in the area. The safari experience at Sigean is the best we've had so far and the waterpark at Roses was amazing.
I've already reccommended this property to friends and we'll difinitely be returning again.

Wonderful holiday home,in lovely Languedoc

Debbie Loughborough England.
Date Submitted: September 21, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
The accommodation at Mas San Julian is ideal for families of all ages.

The complex comprises 5 lodges in a terrace like configuration and a larger property to the rear of the lodges. There is a buzz of happy holiday atmosphere particularly when all the children get together and play within the safety of the ample parkland. Football , cricket badminton etc can be played safely without disturbing other guests.

Inside the lodge , the bedrooms are nicely furnished and bathrooms, showers are spotlessly clean and in excellent working order. The kitchen is very well equipped with a good sized fridge freezer, microwave, everything you needed was there. We opted to have the home cooked welcome meal when we arrived and after a long journey it was especially good and particularly generous.

The enclosed swimming pool was a good size and a very popular feature for children and adults alike when the weather was so hot.
The new games room was great for young and older children with a pool table and large sky TV screen, ball pool and soft toys, books etc.

Our hosts were very attentive and always on hand if you needed them but also unobtrusive. We found other guests to be very friendly and the whole complex had a wonderfully happy feel to it. Dave and Anna offered a meal/party night once a week which was great fun the children loved playing with Dave and Annas friendly dogs and Dave's tractor rides were a real winner with the children. Anna gave the children the opportunity to go pony riding during the week.
Dave and Anna offered sound advice, their efforts were special and helped to make such a memorable stay and our holiday run smoothly.

The location on the outskirts of Thuir is ideal for exploring in the mountains and on the coast alike. Thuir has a number of good quality restaurants and is a typical little French town. The region is filled with hilltop castles, and villages, row upon row of vines, and peach orchards , bustling markets and the incredibly beautiful Cote Vermeille with its rugged coastline and rocky coves and then the long sandy beaches of the somewhat busy resorts of Canet, Argeles and St Cyprien are all within easy driving distance and help to create a truly varied holiday experience.
The stunning views of the Canigou mountain from the property will stay long in the memory.
I can thoroughly recommend this special holiday home with its kind and attentive hosts to even the most discerning traveller.

As a family, we have normally tried a different location every year for our main summer holiday. However, since discovering Mas San Julian 3 years ago, we just cant get away from the place!

It's a fabulous location which has been developed in a very elegant and thoughtful way. David and Anna are superb hosts and strike a lovely balance between leaving you to enjoy your holiday, but being there when you need them.

The magical part about Mas San Julian is that the children just seem to find ways of coming together having fun with each other in a completely safe environment. Our 8-year old daughter has absolutely loved it for 3 summers in a row.

An excellent holiday choice

Ron Stokes weston Super Mare.
Date Submitted: September 19, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
We initially sought special accommodation to share with friends, for whom it was their first visit to France. We loved it so much, 2010 was our fourth visit. The gite layout is so thoughtful, allowing through ventilation to keep the interior cool, despite daily temperatures often over 30oC

When we arrived, Anna was there to greet us, and show us our accommodation, as ever, is was spotlessly clean.

Throughout the holiday David & Anna were on hand, living in the adjoining farmhouse, to deal with any issues or offer welcome advice, on places to visit, directions [and even where to find the best places to shop!]. They are both very friendly and enjoy chatting with their guests.

The 5 gites are terraced and all face out on the rear 4 acres of lawn containing the excellent and clean swimming pool. We enjoyed getting to know our fellow guests [from 2 to 72+], including some ‘help’ at scrabble from next door’s 4 year old!

There is so much space, that we have never felt Mas San Julian crowded – even around the pool as there are plenty of sun beds.

We like the area because of the variety. To the east and south there are the mountains and walled medieval towns. To the west is the coast with sandy beaches. There are plenty of places to see, and plenty of small restaurants. We have yet to find one we did not enjoy! What we find really refreshing is to drive on uncrowded roads, with easy and plentiful parking wherever we go.

We have always enjoyed our stays with David and Anna and, have no hesitation in recommending Mas San Julian to anyone with a car with children or ‘after’ children as we are.

Living the Good Life in Languedoc!

Date Submitted: September 14, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
This authentically beautiful and very family-friendly holiday property lived up to all our expectations - from the acres of fruit tree bordered open space surrounding it to the magnigicent views of the Canigu mountains - it gave a taste of Languedoc that lingers long in the memory.

Completely safe for children - yet private enough to enjoy without tripping over them;Anna and David, the owners, offer their full but discreet attention duriing your stay and deliver a fantastic home from home experience that has people returning year after year.

The surrounding area is packed with things to do - tiny mountain villages to wander through, bustiling market towns to explore and coastal retreats with sunbathing swimming and art galore.

Nearby Perpignan is full of character offering the culture vulture a chance to lose themselves in history and the simple tourist the chance to sit and watch the world go by in lovely restaurants and street cafes.

This property is best placed to be far enough away from, but close enough to, so many different holiday experiences and with the stunning Pyrenees Mountains and the Spanish border just a short drive away - you really can bring beach, city, mountain and other country all together in the one region.

The local restaurants cater for all tastes and the supermarkets packed with local produce that can be turned into "gourmet" back at your well equipped lodge - we barbecued most nights on the outside range and drank wine form the fabulous local boutique vineyard - Treloar Wines. The owners visit the property on a sunday to let you taste their products and a worth it visit to their vineyard can be arranged through Mas San Julian.

We took our young family as an alternative holiday experience and had a great day finding out about the passion that is - wine-making.

There is so much to occupy you at the property itself that it is tempting to just do very little other than lounge by the clean, good sized pool or as the children did -play football or cricket in the grounds - go pony rides on Tachounka the owners' pony - or spend hours in the state-of- the- art play barn with sattelite TV and full-sized snooker table.

With a lovely welcome dinner laid on for you on your arrival if you should request it - you are made to feel right at home from the very second you arrive and as a family that will hopefully be going back - I highly recommend a stay at Mas san Julian for a truly vintage holiday experience!

This wonderful holiday home exceeded all of our expectations. If anything the description does not do it justice. Our Gite was furnished with high qualitiy furniture, beautifully comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. The pool and grounds are large and well maintained, child friendly and a haven for our 8 year old daughter. The location is perfect with the sea, mountains and river all within easy reach, there is so much to explore in this region. Most of all our hosts Anna and Dave were fantastic, welcoming and close by should you have any questions or need advice. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The property offers peace and quiet with the opportunity to socialise with fellow guests if you desire. We have re booked for next year which is a first for us. A perfect holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of France, with perfect hosts.

A good size apartment, could have housed two or more families. David and Anna were helpful but not imposing. Facilities in the Gite was good, everything was well thought out. It was stocked with a few essentials when we arrived, which was a relief. It has a good Barbeque and is safe for kids(our 15 month old had a very good time)
The pool was clean and everything was well maintained.

Thuir is a nice local town which has character and good amenities.

David thanks for the great directions.

Overall our stay was very nice I would recommend this place to people.

We drove to this fantastic holiday accomadation from Blackburn lancs, and although is was a longish journey split over two days[trip to euro disney] with three children we loved all of it.
The accomadation was imaculate and the owners were extremely helpful when asked about anything ie restaurants, local markets, beaches, trains to spain and directions.
The kids loved the swimming pool and the large grassed area where we played cricket, football, tennis and the rest.
Only one criticisum perhaps the owners could invest in a table tennis table and more outside sports stuff ie football goals.
The surrounding area is stunning with the coastal towns and beaches , the city of perpignan[which has everything,]and the mountains.
Recommend this property to anybody because activities, attractions and scenery are so diverse you could satisfy holiday needs for most people/family in my opinion.
Weather you drive fly or use the train it will be worth it.

Family Stay at Mas San Julian, Thuir, France

Barnes Family Barnes.
Date Submitted: June 02, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008
This is a superb holiday venue for a family with small children. The morning view (snow-capped mountains) is spectacular, there is an abundance of outside space for children to work off excess energy and the pool is actually warm. There is plenty to do in the local area to keep everyone happy including beaches, walking, crazy golf, coffee and croissant shops (critical for mums on holiday), dinosaur caves and walled, medieval towns. An outdoor jacuzzi and some swings or football goals would make this place perfect but then the price would go up! Signage on arrival could be improved.

We booked a week's holiday at Mas San Julian during Easter 2008. The location is excellent - superb views of Mont Canigou and the Pyrenees, and within easy reach of the coast and Spain. Anna and David were kind and excellent hosts.

Our lodge was first class - beautifully furnished and practical too. Clean and modern with all mod cons. We had 2 terraces, one with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Outside, the children were fully catered for, with the outdoor heated swimming pool and acres of open space. Our children had a fantastic time - and made friends not only with neighbouring families but also with the cats, dogs and horses! They even had the opportunity for some horse riding.

The area is superb for sightseeing and for adventure - walking, castles, vineyards, mountains, coast - the area has it all. Thuir, a small town just a few miles away is full of character and has all the amenities and services that you'd need.

This was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last!

Accomodation was perfect and we had a lovely time. Anna enjoyed her pony/horse ride and swimming. We enjoyed the views and the sights. We were at the bottom of a ski slope on one day and by the Med at 22C the next (all in April!). I think the property is ideal for families but not for very young children because of the stairs/two floors. One area that could be improved was the number of childrens toys/games in the Mas and maybe a trampoline/climbing frame/swings in the grounds (which are lovely).

Thuir itself is lovely and very friendly.

Anna and David are the perfect hosts, managing to be around and accessable without being intrusive. About 1.5Km from Thuir this was an excellent location for touring the area. Not far from the coast, Pyrennes, Spain and Perpignan there is plenty for everyone. For those wanting a more relaxing holiday, the pool and it's surrounding area is great for chilling. The properties themselves are well laid out with everything you could wish for and provided a good mixture of sun and shade. Often a nice bottle of Red, purchased locally, was drank on the upper terrace whilst watching the setting sun. The owners, Anna and David, were full of advice and knowledge and were the perfect hosts. My next trip to Perpignan will certainly mean a stay at the Mas San Julian

Date Submitted: May 22, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
What a fantastic place! We found Mas San Julian on the internet when we were looking for somewhere to spend a five-week sabbatical in 2007.
David and Anna were extremely helpful and accomodating and we couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a much anticipated and very special family holiday.
Mas San Julian is situated in a stunning part of France and although it's close to popular tourist spots, it's removed enough to allow us to spend time enjoying real, unspoilt rural France.
Despite spending a lot longer than most at Mas San Julian, we were never bored - there's so much to do and see - from walking, cycling and sight-seeing, to historic sites, grottos, fantastic markets and glorious beaches. We even visited Spain and my husband played golf!
When we weren't out exploring, or eating, we had a wonderful time just relaxing by the pool or on our terrace. Our two children (8 and 10) were never short of friends and had a fantastic time swimming, playing and running around the parkland in complete safety.
Many of the families we met during our stay were returning - one family for the seventh time - and it didn't take any persuading at all to get us booking our return trip.
We go back in August this year and cannot wait, although this time sadly it's only for two weeks.
The weather is great most of the time and it sounds like it's good most of the year, so we are even talking about visiting next winter!
Mas San Julian really is 'once bitten, forever smitten'! We cannot recommend it highly enough.

We keep returning to Mas San Julian, lured back by the peace and tranquility, and yet there is plenty to do !
There are five lodges, set in front of a huge swimming pool, and with fantastic views over the Pyrenees. The town of Thuir is only about three minutes drive away, but the Mas has a very rural feel and is very peaceful.
Each lodge(and we have stayed in all but one of them!) is spotlessly clean, very comfortable and has all the amenities you will need (fridge, dishwasher etc)but you will spend most of your time sitting outside on your individual patio, admiring the view, drinking wine,BBQing and probably chatting to your neighbours !
It is probably fair to say that in the summer months,it is almost exclusively families who holiday here, but I believe this is not so much the case, out of season. The swimming pool is great for the kids though, and there is plenty of garden for them to play in.
The beach is not too far by car,and it is even possible,as we did one year, to go skiing on the Spanish border for the day, at the right time of year of course .
Dave and Anna, your hosts, are extremely helpful and full of good ideas for places to go,whether for a day trip or a restaurant in the evening - They are also very good company if you invite them for a drink in the evening..
Our children have always really enjoyed their holidays in Mas San Julian, generally making new friends very quickly, and we think that we would struggle to find a better place for a family holiday. So Dave,if you are reading this,we will be back again this year !

The description regarding layout, amenities and location was accurate. A welcome pack was provided consisting of basic foodstuffs...very useful. Not mentioned in the advertising material.
The property was clean and well-maintained and the surrounding grounds and pool area were impeccable. The owners were friendly and offered advice when asked on a range of enquiries.....where to go, what to do etc..
We went on personal recommendation and would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends.
We particularly enjoyed the visit to the thermal baths at St. Thomas, the wine tasting tour and lunch at Treloar Domaine. (Meal and wine were excellent!) Plenty of advertising material provided about other places to visit.
All in all a great holiday venue.

I was tasked with finding a holiday for myself, fiance and the soon to be in laws. My fiance's parents are frequent visitors to France and it was a daunting task ahead to find not only the right location but also the right accomodation. After much searching and reviewing I kept coming back to Mas San Julian and decidd to go with my own gut feeling and book a weeks stay. I conversed with Anna and David via e-mail and found them to be very welcoming and helpful from the onset.
Upon arrival I could not have been happier with my choice and the whole party was suitably impressed.
The accomodation was first class, great space for 2 adult couples without feeling on top of one another. Brilliant pool area and superb gardens. We all had the most relaxing and rejuvenationg week and its laid the foundations for future holidays together - no doubt we will be back at Mas San Julian!

As as family with young children ranging from 6- -16years, we are looking forward to our fifth holiday at Mas San Julian.
We keep returning because we cant find anywhere better-(sorry Dave and Anna). The accomodation is great, good beds and well equipped kitchen. The grounds consist of acres of flat green grass which allow the children to run off and do their own thing but within sight so they are safe. The pool is a good size and allows all the family to swim and have fun.
The nearest village is 5 minutes by car and has good bakers, butchers and supermarkets.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area if you can tear the children away from the place. There are lots of markets big and small, picturesque villages to see like Coulliere, Villefranche, Water Parks, Adventure Playgrounds Golf Tennis. etc The holiday is a great success because there are other families with children so new friends are made for every one.If you need any advice just ask Dave and Anna as they are very knowledgeable and very happy to help.
I hope this has helped it really is a great place
Happy holidays

We were lucky enough to spend 6 weeks at Mas San Julian over Christmas 2007 and loved every minute of it. Our lodge was spacious, very clean, very well equipped and everything the website had promised. Fruit orchards abound in all directions and the landscaped grounds just lovely. Our young son thoroughly enjoyed playing outside whilst we enjoyed being able to relax and let him run at his leisure. He was also able to enjoy gentle rides on the horses – thanks to Anna and Corinne. Anna and David were so very warm and welcoming and nothing ever too much trouble. It was so good to arrive after an 8 hour journey with a 2 year old to be greeted by Anna dressing a Christmas tree for us!
We found there was plenty to keep us busy, the beaches, Collioure and even Spain just 25 mins away. The countless pretty villages and many good restaurants, all within easy reach especially picturesque Castelnou, being only 5 minutes from MSJulian. The stunning scenery at Font Romeu ski resort, only one hrs' drive and not at all crowded, made Xmas Eve really very special. Perpignan, just 20 mins away, was beautiful with fab shopping ! The best bit for me though was stepping out onto the balcony first thing in the morning and gazing across to a snow capped Mount Canigou, I really miss this, it was such food for the Soul! We can't wait to get back there in the Autumn and would definitely recommend it.

A great holiday every time!

We have stayed several times at MSJ and each time our children have said 'Can we come back next year?!' It's a great place for families of all ages - lots of places to visit nearby, but lots of reasons just to stay by the pool and unwind. The lodges are wonderful and perfectly maintained, and Dave and Anna are the best possible hosts. We have also made lots of friends among the other guests. Thuir is a typical small French town, where you feel that you are experiencing real French life, doing the daily shopping, going to the market, sitting in the cafes and so on. We are not going to MSJ this year for the first time in a while - but we will definitely be going back some time soon!

A Lovely Family Holiday

Family from Twickenham London.
Date Submitted: May 11, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
We had a lovely week at Mas San Julian in August 2007. We enjoyed it so much we're coming back in August 2008. The apartments and kitchens are furnished to a lovely standard. The grounds are lovely. But more importantly the environment of five families on a large plot worked so well - with a great combination of privacy and good company for all. The local town Thuir is refreshing "French" with few other English (other than us) which is geniunely only 1mile away, with supermarkets, a few resturants and all the facilities one needs. Our hosts were really nice - they keep a "polite distance" but were always on hand to suggest interesting day trips.

Excellent Holday

We were absolutely delighted with our choice of venue for our late October holiday. Sunshine warmth and beautiful scenery especially the snow on mount Canigou. The accommodation was perfect every need catered for, comfortable leather sofas, well equipped kitchen, patio furniture, bar-b-que, all mods cons to make your stay as easy as possible for a self catering holiday. The swimming pool and gardens were lovely and kept to a high standard. We will definetly visit again and have recommended it to our friends and family. The accommodation is excellent for year round variety, not far from the beaches in the summer and popping into Spain, not far from the mountains if you fancy some skiing and also lovely for a Christmas getaway. The owners are very friendly helpful people and made us feel at home. Thank you for such a lovely break.

Pros: Very clean and very tidy. Secure pool area a real bouns for the kids. Excellent area, with lots to do.

Cons: Could do with TV/DVD/sound system as standard in the gites, as they could only be pre-ordered.

Would go back, if there was not so much of France still to see!

Owners Response: Hi Rob,

Many thanks for taking the trouble to write a review. The only reason we do not put TV's etc in the lodges as standard is because so many people have commented the fact the enjoy NOT having them. They are available to anyone who wants them at no cost.

Hope to see you again one day!

A Wonderful stay

Date Submitted: May 09, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2007
At Mas San Julian in October 2007, we had a wonderful time. The setting of the apartments was very reassuring and relaxing for us as parents with 4 children. It has so far been the only holiday location where we happily let our 3 and 2 year olds play so freely on the lawns, knowing they were safe from traffic and hazards. We all enjoyed the pool and the apartment was very well arranged. It completely worked for us. The hospitality was wonderful. The only slight disappointment, which upon reflection didn't prove to be a bad thing was we didn't have a television for the evenings. on the whole - a brilliant holiday!

Owners Response: Thanks for a great review Dawn and Rich. Televisions are available at no extra charge on request, this is advertised on our website. We do not include them as a matter of course as the absence of such has proved to be a positive point for many families.

We hope to be able to welcome you back to Mas San Julian again!

Best wishes,
David & Anna

We stayed at the property inn April 07 and can say it is an absolutely beautiful property. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the area and helped us immensely with days out and an easier way back to Gerona airport. It is a very quiet area so will not suit everyone but in our party we had ages ranges from 9 to 64 and we all had a great time and said we would like to return someday.

The moment we arrived at Mas San Julian we felt our holiday had started. We had a very warm welcome from the owners and the other guests. The accomodation is first class, clean and tidy with everything you could possibly need to make your stay perfect. The pool area is wonderful, being able to relax and watch the children having fun in a safe enviroment is great. The surrounding area as very peaceful and the grounds are huge, which enabled everyone to have fun including the daily game of cricket and football! This will be our third visit and we will definetely be returning. I would recommend this holiday home to anyone. The owners were always on hand to help with great days out or the best restaurants, etc they make the holiday. The property is close to a lovely village which has everything and is very central to great places to see including only an hour from spain aswell. I would recommend this holiday home to our friends.

We found the facilities to be of a very high standard, friendly and ideal for families. The location is excellent with easy car access to the beach and mountains. This is an ideal venue to stay, or to visit lovely villages and experience the South of France. For those who follow "Les Cats" well worth choosing for a holiday.

Family of 5, Kent
