More about West Majorca
Make a holiday villa, home, or rental in West Mallorca, Spain, your home away from home
West Mallorca, or West Majorca, is a different picture from the resorts around La Palma. It has rugged coastlines, beautiful scenery practically untouched by tourism, a literary history (Robert Graves moved here), and a nature park in the form of an island. Classic resorts with very good sandy beaches, such as Santa Ponsa and Camp de Mar are abundant here. There are also beautiful walking trails on the West Mallorca up a ruined monastery and through the nature paths.
Places to Holiday in West Mallorca
Villas in West Mallorca are very sought after. These luxurious holiday Majorca rentals provide a home away from home. A southwest Mallorca holiday rental is a popular part of the island for holidays.
Santa Ponsa (Santa Ponca) - The popular holiday villas in Santa Ponsa, along with its more infamous neighbours Palma Nova and Magaluf, are all part of the municipal district of Calvia in the south west Majorca. Santa Ponsa has developed a very strong Celtic theme and has become very popular with both Irish and Scottish visitors. The main beach is large, and has been growing with the growing number of visitors. Santa Ponsa really comes alive in the early evening, and although Santa Ponsa has an abundance of bars, restaurants, and live music venues, it does still cater for holidaymakers and families with children.
Soller - The municipal district of Soller lies deep within the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range. Soller is dominated by the highest mountain in Majorca, Puig Mayor. The village of Puerto de Soller is the only village along the rugged west coast of Majorca, and is flanked by a horseshoe bay enclosed by two headlands. You can travel to Soller from Palma by train - from a converted 17th Century manor house in the old town of Soller, the magnificent "Tren de Soller" makes 5 trips everyday. The main town beach is quite small with few facilities. This area is most popular with middle aged couples, and those interested in walking and scenery as the town is a convenient base to get into the mountains that have protected the resort for many years.
Andraitx (or Andratx) - Andraitx is in the extreme south west of Majorca, west of the capital Palma. It encompasses the towns of S’Arraco, Sant Elm and the resort of Camp de Mar. It has beautiful narrow cobbled streets and an almost fortress-like church. Today, Andraitx is no stranger to the rich and famous. Andraitx is the undiscovered gem of West Mallorca. This West Mallorca town with an authentic Mallorca feel is popular with independent travellers who prefer the serenity of a south west Mallorca holiday rental. Beaches are nearby and Andraitx is easy to access from the Palma International Airport, through car hires or taxis.
