Opportunity

HomeAway Europe is seeking an exceptional Java Developer to help build out a new enterprise-wide platform. The architecture, primarily based on an open source Java stack, will be made up of leading technologies to include Capistrano, Cruise Control, Maven, Spring, Spring MVC, Site Mesh, Resin, Gears, xDoclet, Emma, JUnit, JMock, Atom, RelaxNG, XML and REST based webservices. Experience of some of these, although not necessary all, would be beneficial.

Our Java Development team in London builds new and exciting products for global rollout - focussing mainly on next generation web applications for the thousands of property owners around the world who advertise on our market-leading listing sites.

We operate on a one-week Agile sprint cycle and things change fast - so there's a lot of variety in the work. And you won't just be coding our products, you'll also be working closely with the product owners, designers and experienced technical architects to be a big part of producing top quality web software.

Requirements

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Developing content-managed, multi-lingual, high-availability systems
• Building Web 2.0 highly usable web forms and flows
• Dreaming up novel solutions to tough synchronisation, data-integrity and real-time processing challenges
• Working on new functionality as well as improving existing code and troubleshooting problems
• Designing applications for production-strength architectures
• Optimising relational databases, writing fast queries and solve data processing problems elegantly
• Actively participate in weekly Agile sprint planning meetings, daily stand-ups

The ideal candidate will have:

• Extensive experience of commercial, production-strength internet development
• Expert knowledge and experience with Java/J2EE object oriented development
• Solid Spring Framework and Webflow experience
• Source control and configuration management (ideally SVN, Gears, TeamCity, Cruise Control)
• ScrumMaster certification or experienced in Agile team methodology
• Rabid advocate of test-driven development
• Service-oriented architectural experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Strong computer science or software engineering degree and education

You'll also have a keen eye for detail and a desire to maintain exemplary output. You'll be experienced in taking ownership and responsibility for functional sections from conception through design to implementation and support.
