Budget airlines attract more passengersDestination trends: 08 January 2008Budget airlines are proving to be highly popular among British leisure travellers, new figures have revealed. According to data from Ryanair, 18 per cent more people travelled with the airline last month than 12 months earlier. Meanwhile, easyJet has revealed that it saw a 9.9 per cent increase in passenger numbers during the same period. These figures serve to indicate the continuing and growing popularity of budget airlines among leisure travellers. One explanation for the higher figures during December 2007 could be the torrential downpours seen in the UK earlier in the year, which was severe enough to cause serious flooding in many parts of the country. The Association of British Travel Agents recently stated that many people had missed out on the sun because of the wet summer, which it said led to a surge in the number of people booking trips abroad over the winter.
