Eurozone countries 'more expensive'Destination trends: 18 April 2008Holidaymakers who travel to countries in the eurozone could face a rise in overall costs due to recent financial fluctuations. According to the Post Office, the value of the pound has plummeted to a record low against the single European currency. This means that trips to countries which use the euro as their tender could be more expensive than in the past. However, the Post Office has stated that prices still vary quite significantly across the eurozone, which means some countries will be much cheaper than others. Spain was named as the most affordable location, as prices are about 15 per cent less than in neighbouring European countries such as France. Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, commented: "People will be looking to visit countries where a lower cost of living will offer them more for their pound, like Spain." This comes after Mark Nancarrow of Thomas Cook told the Scotsman that the pound may get weaker in the near future. Therefore, he has suggested that people who are preparing to head abroad this year exchange their currency fairly soon. See our European featured properties
