Going on holiday 'a priority for Britons'

Travel trends: 4 March 2008

Going on holiday is so important to Britons that it is outweighing other concerns, according to experts.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) said that financial constraints such as rising fuel bills are not putting people off taking a trip abroad.

In addition, the organisation stated that many consumers see going on holiday as more important than paying for other necessary expenses.

Speaking to BBC News, ABTA spokesperson Frances Tuke commented: "They tend to cut back on things on home improvements and still go on holiday."

She added that people's destination choices are becoming more and more adventurous, with many opting for exotic locations outside Europe such as Egypt and Morocco.

The comments come shortly after online travel agency Lastminute.com stated that a number of African countries have recently been attracting considerable interest.

Morocco was highlighted as one destination that was set to be popular this year, along with the Cape Verde islands.
