Holidaymakers advised to visit Morocco

Holidaymakers in the UK have been advised to travel outside Europe and take a holiday in Morocco.

Cheapflights.co.uk recommended the north African country to leisure travellers who are planning to venture abroad during the spring.

The price comparison website said Morocco can be reached directly thanks to services offered by low-cost airlines.

Marrakesh was highlighted as an "especially pleasant" area to visit at this time of year, due to its leisure attractions including shops and historical sites.

The organisation added that the city was unlikely to be overwhelmed by "hordes" of visiting tourists, as most people arrive later in the year.

Cheapflights.co.uk commented: "Stay in one of its quaint riads and haggle with the merchants at the souks for an authentic experience."

According to official government statistics, more than seven million foreign holidaymakers visited Morocco last year.

However, authorities have expressed a desire to increase this figure to ten million by 2010.
