Holidaymakers 'ignore credit crunch'

Destination trends: 12 May 2008

Holidays to destinations deemed "old favourites" remain popular with British travellers despite the global credit crunch putting pressure on people's finances.

That is the opinion of Bill Munro of Barrhead Travel, who told the Daily Record that the Spanish Costas, Portugal, Majorca and Greece are all still high up on the list of foreign getaways for those looking to take a break from the UK.

He also claimed there were other destinations becoming increasingly sought after, such as Bulgaria and Turkey, and the north African nations of Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.

He told the publication: "Some are shying away from Euroland and going to Turkey, Bulgaria and other countries based on price.

"But many know that for quality Spain is still number one and also still cheaper than the UK by far."

Young families find all-inclusive deals attractive as they allow people to budget more easily, he added.
