London to Fort Lauderdale flights underwayFlorida: 23 May 2008Things have gotten easier for those looking to stay in a rented holiday home in Florida. Zoom Airlines began running direct flights from London Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale yesterday, the first time any low-cost service has operated the route from Europe to the American destination in a decade, Travel Daily News reports. Explaining why his company decided to set up the new service, Zoom UK's Jonathan Hinkles remarked "it's easy to see the appeal". "As a holiday destination, the resort of Fort Lauderdale is renowned for its constant sunshine, boasting over 23 miles of beautiful beaches and an abundance of activities for all the family," he added. A close to capacity plane took 241 passengers on the first flight on Thursday and Mr Hinkles suggested that packed planes could be normality for the route, due to its popularity with people from across Europe as well as the UK.
