Money goes further in Bulgaria

Holidaymakers can get more for their money in Bulgaria than they would elsewhere, according to new figures.

Research by Teletext Holidays found that the eastern European country offers better value for money than any other tourist destination.

Bulgaria, which is popular for both its beaches and good winter sports facilities, was said to be much cheaper than places such as Spain in a number of areas, such as food and drink.

For example, figures showed that a pint of beer costs about a third of the price that a Spanish bar charges.

Morocco was identified as another cheap location, as a three-course meal costs about £8 less than it would in Spain.

Teletext Holidays said this is one of the reasons why holidaymakers are increasingly choosing to visit less-established locations that are further afield.

Spokesperson Ash Makkar commented: "People are becoming more adventurous when it comes to booking a trip abroad."

Earlier this month, online travel agency Lastminute.com revealed that a number of African countries have recently been attracting considerable interest and are likely to be very popular this year.
