Passenger numbers go up at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham International Airport has recorded a further increase in monthly passenger numbers.

According to bosses at the transport hub, more than 877,000 passengers passed through its doors in May 2008.

This is 5.7 per cent higher than the figure recorded 12 months earlier and a record amount for this time of year.

According to the airport, this increase was driven by the introduction of a various new services, including direct flights to France, Greece and Germany.

Joe Kelly, acting managing director at Birmingham International Airport, described May as a "record-breaking" month for the facility.

He commented: "May has been extremely busy with a number of new routes launching from Birmingham, offering passengers an increasing range of destinations to choose from."
