South America attracts property buyers

Property investment abroad: 17 March 2008

Holiday home buyers from the UK are increasingly snapping up properties in South America, according to a media report.

The Times stated that Brazil is proving to be a highly popular country among overseas property buyers, partly because it offers large stretches of unspoiled coastline.

North-east Brazil was flagged up as the nation's main investment hotspot, as the region has other attractions including lots of new properties and resorts.

This has led to the development of associated leisure facilities, including golf courses, spas and swimming pools.

According to the newspaper, this has made north-east Brazil a desirable location among both homegrown and foreign investors.

The Times commented: "The emergence of an increasingly affluent Brazilian middle class means there is not too great a dependence on British and other foreign buyers."

This comes after Halifax Travel Insurance revealed that a growing number of people are travelling outside Europe for short breaks, partly because long-haul flights are more affordable than they were in the past.
