Southern Europe attracts Welsh visitors

Property investment abroad: 4 March 2008

Rental investors in southern Europe will be buoyed by new figures highlighting its continuing popularity among Britons.

According to data from the Welsh Assembly, approximately 1.6 million consumers flew to a foreign location from Cardiff Airport during 2006.

Portugal was identified as an especially popular location, along with Cyprus and Turkey.

However, figures showed that half of all these people chose to spend their holidays in various parts of Spain, including the Canary Islands.

This means that rental accommodation in all these locations will be in high demand.

Peter Phillips, head of marketing at Cardiff Airport, said this showed that cheap carriers were now flying further afield.

Speaking to the Western Mail, he commented: "Low-cost airlines are going further now.

"When they started off, they were only going to Paris and Amsterdam."

This comes after Thomas Cook predicted that many people from the UK would take city breaks in Europe this Easter.
