Spain attracts UK holiday home buyers

Property investment abroad: 28 April 2008

Holiday home buyers from the UK are set to keep purchasing houses in Spain, according to industry experts.

The Spanish Property Owners Guild stated that the country is currently very popular with Britons because it offers attractions such as 320 days of sunshine every year.

Paul Bradley, a spokesperson for the body, said its affordability and good transport links with the UK have also helped to enhance its appeal.

He commented: "Nearly every Brit has been to Spain as a child and has fond memories of playing on the beach."

Spain was also praised for offering a "wonderful" quality of life, as well as reduced cost of living.

Mr Bradley added that visitor numbers in March were more than seven per cent up on the amount recorded 12 months earlier.

According to government figures cited by Reuters, the European country attracted 4.4 million tourists last month.
