Spain's appeal 'set to continue'
Travel trends: 21 January 2008Spain will always be a popular holiday destination for British tourists, according to an expert.
Claire Lilley, head of research at Holiday Which?, said the country was especially popular with families, as it was a "hassle-free" location.
However, she said that other countries were attracting an increased level of attention, partially because people now wanted more out of their holidays.
Ms Lilley commented: "People are going on maybe three or four holidays a year and they don't always just want to lie on a beach."
She said this was one of the reasons for people choosing to engage in pursuits such as horse riding and bungee jumping while on holiday.
Furthermore, Ms Lilley stated that this accounted for the growing popularity of countries such as Bulgaria as holiday destinations.
Earlier this month, a study by Fool.co.uk found that more than a third of people in the UK spent about ten hours planning their annual holiday.
