Barcelona, the Mediterranean Capital!

Barcelona, sitting on the coastline of the Iberian Peninsula, is the capital of Catalonia. Sitting on the Mediterranean, Barcelona is a magnificent city, Mediterranean in all respects and a joy to explore. It is a city blessed with an extraordinary mix of history, culture and tradition, and one which will have you falling in love moments after settling into your Barcelona apartment.  The Gothic centre is in total contrast to the vibrant, modern vibe of Barcelona, but you will always find something to get you going. It may surprise many, but Barcelona is rich with history. The ancient centre is a cluster of gothic architecture, but you can also find Roman and medieval streets in and around the centre. However, architecturally, Barcelona is mostly known for the new, bizarre and unique, epitomised by the strangely beautiful Sagarda Familia Church, La Pedrera and the inspirational Mind House. The most famous of Barcelona’s architects is Antonio Gaudi, and many of his extreme buildings can be seen in the city, including his flag-ship piece, the Sagarda Familia Church. This expression of art could only be found in Barcelona, and throughout the city are artistic hotspots, the most notable of which are the Modernisme, Picasso Museum and the Torre Agbar.

There are many top tourist attractions for both young and old to discover from Barcelona apartments. The Barcelona Aquarium is spectacular, and the second most visited attraction in the whole of the city after Sagarda Familia. Located by the port, the Aquarium is one of the best in Europe, and well worth visiting, especially with children, although no excuse is needed to enter the watery world of Barcelona Aquarium, whatever your age! The ‘Spanish Village’ is a great attraction for those visiting Barcelona, Spain, for the first time, bringing together aspects of life from every corner of Spain into one small ‘village’. The Magic Fountain of Montjuic, the Picasso Museum and Barcelona Zoo also rate highly, as, of course, does Barcelona FC Museum!

But Barcelona is one of those places where the attractions seem to come second to the daily lifestyle. The sunshine makes Barcelona sparkle throughout the year, and there are often times when you simply want to sit back and suck it all in, enjoying the exceptional cuisine, fine wine and glorious atmosphere of Catalonia’s best.
