The London borough of Bromley: Attractions galore, great transport links

If you’re looking for luxury accommodation in the capital during the Olympics, Bromley is perfect

Bromley It’s hard to write an introduction for Bromley that does it justice.

Not only is this borough well known for having the most countryside in the whole of the London area (an impressive 77 square kilometres, to be precise), but Bromley also has world-leading museums and exhibits that showcase the work of some of the finest contemporary artists.

Another interesting take on art can be found at the Bethlem Royal Hospital Archives and Museum. The venue is known for having one of the biggest collections of drawings from artists who suffered from mental disorders. Whether you are interested in doing research into this subject matter, or just wish to look at the world of fine art from a different perspective, you could find that this institution is well worth a visit.

Finding the right accommodation for the 2012 Olympics for you in Bromley won’t be difficult at all – not least because it is the largest borough in the capital.

Are you ready to become a part of sporting history?

Bromley The Olympics is coming to London in summer 2012, and the impressive accommodation in Bromley offers you the opportunity to stay in the capital and take in a piece of the action.

So – if you decide to stay in Bromley for a long weekend in the middle of the 2012 games, how could you plan a five-day trip?

Well, kicking off on the morning of the 1st of August, you might consider going to attend the beach volleyball preliminaries at the Horses Guard Parade. Then, on the 2nd at the Wembley Arena, you may choose to watch the quarter-finals of the men’s badminton. In the afternoon, you might choose to visit the ExCeL centre in Docklands to watch victory ceremonies in the men’s and women’s judo.

Fancy taking a few days off? No problem! Return on the 4th of August bright eyed and bushy tailed as the gold medal match for the men’s doubles at Wimbledon unfolds. On the 5th of August, you’ll want to be at the Olympic Park in Newham for a day of athletics that includes the finals of the 100m for the men, as well as the semi-finals for the 400m and 1500m races.

Bromley’s a big place, so what attractions are there?

If you’re with the kids, they will love the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs exhibit, which boasts some carefully-crafted sculptures of dinosaurs from the prehistoric age.

Created in the mid 19th-century before Charles Darwin came on the scene, it’s a great opportunity to educate and excite the children in between Olympic events.

For something to eat and drink, choose a gastropub that has a warm and personable demeanour. The George is one venue that fits the bill, offering a well-manicured building with scrumptious Mediterranean food served seven days a week.

Of course, you can’t visit Bromley without going for a bit of shopping. You may find that lads and dads may wish to visit a driving range or a football field while the girls go and try some gorgeous clothes in nearby retail precincts. The Glades Shopping Centre in Bromley doesn’t just have plenty of boutiques, shops and irresistible promotions, but cafés and restaurants that will allow you to put your feet up and have a good natter with the people you love. At the end of the day after walking from store to store, can there be anything better?

Transport in Bromley: How to arrive in style!

Even though Bromley is one of a few London boroughs without an Underground link, the recent extensions to the Overground in the area more than compensate for this.

In addition, you’ll also be able to benefit from several National Rail stations – with one guaranteed to be within walking distance of your chosen accommodation. With high-speed links into Central London, receiving easy access to the heart of the capital needn’t be a challenge.

If you’re coming by car, you’ll also be able to drive onto the M25 and the M26 with relative ease, allowing you to continue your journey around the country. You may have chosen to rent a car once you’ve landed at London Heathrow or Gatwick, and there are many great deals that can be found once you are at the airport. London’s well prepared for the upcoming Olympics, and this includes the borough of Bromley.
