Merton & Wimbledon: Making a racquet for London in 2012

We all love watching the Wimbledon during the summer, and in 2012, the Olympics will give us even more action

Wimbledon Wimbledon has long been famed for the strawberries and champagne which they offer to their visitors every summer for the prestigious tennis tournament named after the venue where it is based.

Of course, as you will learn when reading about the attractions in Wimbledon and the borough of Merton, you don’t have to go to these tennis courts in order to enjoy a bit of greenery. There are numerous parks throughout Merton borough which make for a lovely walk during the day, or a romantic evening stroll as the sun sets with the person you love.

A great hub for recreation, you may also consider getting involved with some golfing while you are here. There are several courses in the Wimbledon area which are open to the public – 18-hole courses that will allow you to brush up on your skills, and play some of the most challenging greens that London has to offer. Just because you’re on holiday doesn’t mean that your handicap needs to go astray, and Wimbledon can ensure that your Olympic holiday maintains a great sporting theme.

Tennis during the Olympics: The facts

Wimbledon Diehard fans of Wimbledon’s normal tournament shouldn’t despair; as this event is normally held in June, there will be double the usual tennis action here.

There have been some modifications that have been made for the advantage of both tournaments, considering that the Games will be using this as one of their host venues. With the addition of a roof for Centre Court that allows play to be undisrupted in the event of bad weather, this will prevent disruptions that could affect the carefully-timed schedule for the Olympic tennis events. This technology has been in use since 2009.

The event is going to include all of the leading names in tennis, including Rafael Nadal who stole the show in 2008 during the men’s tournaments. There are five different disciplines that are going to be taking place in total where medals can be won.

If you want to enjoy tennis for hours on end, make sure that you consider the men’s matches quite strongly when the eight-day battle commences on Saturday, the 28th of July. As men play five sets in contrast to women who play three, you’ll be bound to get even more tennis action than usual.

The London bus network has undergone considerable renovation in the past couple of years to ensure that it is ready for the Olympics, and other infrastructure such as the Underground has experienced the same.

National Rail is also increasing the number of carriages and the capacity of passengers that can be taken on some of the most-demanded routes that span across the country. When you visit Wimbledon in 2012, the capital will be ready to make transport an easy and comfortable experience.
