Balinese self catering recipe ideas

Bali A tiny, idyllic island in the Indian Ocean, part of other 6,000 inhabited islands that make up Indonesia, Bali is an exotic holiday destination that has been a tourist haven for decades. In recent years, the island has seen a further surge in visitor numbers, which comes at no surprise giving its stunning tropical beaches, swaying palm trees, beautiful ancient temples, green rice terraces, colourful flowers and a life deeply steeped in tradition.

The extravagant beauty of Bali also extends to its much-celebrated local cuisine. The staple food is rice, accompanied by vegetables, a small amount of fish or meat, and a range of condiments, beautifully served on carved wood plates or banana leaves. Traditional Balinese dishes include slow-roasted chickens and ducks in banana leaves, fresh grilled seafood, soups from banana stems, fried vegetables and an ever changing selection of cakes and puddings.
