Koutouloufari is very close to some pleasant sandy beaches, which are good spots for sunbathing. This part of the island has some good places for hikers and cyclists to travel along and enjoy the views. The village is also handily placed for golf enthusiasts as the 18-hole Crete Golf Club in Hersonissos is only 10 minutes away. For families with smaller children there is also mini golf at one of the cafeterias in the village and go-karting at Hersonissos. There are several places to dine in Koutouloufari including restaurants and taverns serving Greek and international fare. Self catering holidaymakers can purchase food and drink from a mini market in the village. There are other small shops in the area from which to buy artwork, gifts and souvenirs.

Holidaymakers will find several interesting places to visit on the island including museums and galleries such as the Lychnostatis Folk Museum and the Aquarium both of which are at Hersonissos. Numerous historic buildings are located here too including Byzantine churches and chapels, some of which are over a thousand years old. In Koutouloufari there is the 19th century Church of Agios Vassilios. Another very good place to visit is the Palace of Knossos.
Visitors will be able to see many monasteries too including the ruined monastery of Katholiko, which is the oldest on the island and possible dates back to the 11th century. Crete has some wonderful natural features such as The Cave of Psychro and The Samaria Gorge.

Autohellas, Avis, Eurodollar and Travel Star are the car rental firms located at the airport. Taxis are available just outside the passenger terminal.
