Mar Menor is the lagoon or ‘little sea’ protected by the La Manga Strip. Water temperatures are on average 5˚C warmer than the Mediterranean, and average temperatures for the year are over 18˚C! Golf is an important game at the Mar Menor resort, and there are three championship standard golf courses available. The warm, sheltered and safe waters, un-crowded beaches and array of activities make Mar Menor a favourite with families.

Things to do on the La Manga Strip, Spain

La Manga villas originally came to the forefront of European holiday accommodation due their proximity to three championship golf courses. The vast array of both Mediterranean and Mar Menor beaches on either side of the strip soon meant that golfing holidays were combined with family holidays, and the La Manga Strip has never looked back! The beaches of La Manga Strip consist of glorious white sand and never get crowded even during the peak tourist season. Young children can bathe safely in the warm, crystal clear lagoon waters of Mar Menor, and the clay found in some areas of the lagoon are meant to be excellent for skin complaints!

Restaurants of all different varieties are on offer along the La Manga Strip, especially along the Thomas Maestre Marina, and the produce from the weekly market every Sunday at Cabo de Palos will keep the fridge in your self catering villa on the La Manga Strip stocked with local treats.

With access to both the Mediterranean and the calm waters of Mar Menor, water sports are exceptional here. Sailing, jet-skiing, scuba diving, kite surfing, windsurfing and fishing are all readily available for all standards and ages, and on land, there are superb facilities for go karting, driving quads, golf, walking and relaxing in a health spa, not to mention shopping, beach bars and the casino available from a La Manga Strip apartment.

Summers on the La Manga Strip are hot, making the beaches a marvellous extension to your La Manga villa rental. August temperatures can soar above 30˚C on a regular basis, and the winter rarely sees temperatures dip below 10˚C, meaning the golf courses remain open all year round.

Flights to the La Manga Strip, Spain

The closest airport to La Manga is the small international San Javier Airport in Murcia (MJV). It receives daily flights from the UK, departing from Manchester (MAN), London Gatwick (LGW) and Liverpool (LIV). Cheap flights to a La Manga villa are provided British Airways and a number of the ‘no frills’ airlines. Alicante Airport (ALC) is an hour away from the La Manga Strip, does receive flights from a larger number of British Airports, and a few deals on very cheap flights.
