Lagrasse is one of only 150 or so villages in France which has been granted association of ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’, meaning ‘the most beautiful villages of France’. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, in an idyllic setting, it’s easy to see why!
An assortment of medieval buildings exist in the village, including some which have been lovingly restored and now provide Lagrasse holiday homes! It is thought that the village grew around Lagrasse (also called St Mary’s) Abbey which was built in the year 779AD. Still standing to this day, the abbey is a popular tourist attraction, as is the Church of Lagrasse. The bridges which cross the River Orbieu are very picturesque and historically important, and the narrow medieval streets are a joy to walk around. The central square is a popular gathering place, and the whole village has become a place for artists and potters to live and work.

When you holiday in a Lagrasse holiday home you’re in the heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, famous for its wine production. There are plenty of vineyards to visit and many different wines to try when dining either within your self-catering accommodation or within one of the region’s restaurants.
The whole of the Aude departement in which Lagrasse is situated has beautiful towns with plenty of history. Narbonne, for example, has Roman ruins, and Carcassonne is wonderfully medieval. Even the coast is not too far from your Lagrasse gite or villa, where you’ll find beaches like Leucate Plage.

Although at the foot of the Pyrenees, Lagrasse and the Aude region actually benefits from a Mediterranean climate. In the main, summer holidays in Lagrasse accommodation will be hot and dry, and winters will be mild to cool, and a little wetter.
Flights to Lagrasse, France
Getting to your holiday home in Lagrasse is easier than you might think! There are numerous cities in the region which have airports, giving you plenty of choice for flight routes and airlines. The closest airport to a holiday rental in Lagrasse is at Carcassonne, which Ryanair flies to. A little further away on the coast is Perpignan, again covered by Ryanair. Along the coast to the north is Montpellier, where both EasyJet and Ryanair fly to, plus Ryanair flies to the town of Beziers as well, about half way between Montpelier and Lagrasse.
