Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Lake Iseo, Italy your home away from home
Lake Iseo (Lago d’Iseo) or Lake Sebino as it is otherwise known, is a great lake in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Lake Iseo is home to Europe’s largest lake island, Monte Isola, and is surrounded by fascinating points of interest from pre-historic rock carvings to thermal spas, beautiful vineyards producing fine sparkling wines to the Natural Reserve of the Pyramids of Zone. No two Lake Iseo holidays are the same, and regardless of the range of interests within your family, you will always find something to enthral and entertain from a self catering Lake Iseo villa.
Things to do in Lake Iseo, Italy
Lake Iseo, Italy is not hugely well known outside Italy, and therefore, the usual tourist trails have given the region a wide berth, leaving it wonderfully undeveloped and magnificently peaceful. Trips to the huge Monte Isola are hugely popular from self catering Lake Iseo accommodation, and there are regular ferries taking visitors across the silvery waters of Lago d’Iseo to the island. There are no vehicles on the island, making it a wonderful place to walk and cycle from a Lake Iseo property. The Pyramids of Zone that stand on the island are quite remarkable. Standing up to ten metres high, produced by glacial erosion, the Pyramids of Zone are an absolute marvel to behold.
On the western shore of the lake, the National Park of Rock Engravings makes for almost essential viewing from any Lago d’Iseo accommodation. The park is awash with absolutely remarkable prehistoric carvings, which really make you take a step back and think. The opposite shoreline is famous for another reason though. The sparkling wines produced on the eastern shore are of the highest quality, produced near the great peat bogs of Torbiere. There are a vast range of options for walking, cycling and horse riding around the extensive shoreline of Lake Iseo too, taking you through the incredibly varied landscapes that make up the shoreline.
Lake Iseo itself offers a huge range of activity too. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing days are always great fun, allowing you to discover your own little haven of peace on the shoreline. Silently touring the waters of the lake means that you have an excellent chance of seeing wildlife and birdlife, and the fishing in the lake is excellent.
Painting holidays are also particularly popular from Lake Iseo accommodation due to the sensational landscapes and excellent light, and those wishing to play golf, tennis or go swimming will certainly not want for opportunities.
