Le Bouveret on Lake Geneva
Le Bouveret is an enchanting village situated at the mouth of the Rhone where it feeds into Lake Geneva. Just over an hour’s drive from Geneva International Airport (GVA) and easily accessible by train and bus, it is an extremely popular holiday destination for the Swiss and caters well for tourists.
In summer, it is a haven for water sports where enthusiasts return time and time again to enjoy anything from sailing to banana boats. Its peaceful and scenic surroundings also attract those who enjoy hiking and cycling, while others simply enjoy relaxing on the beautiful beach, fishing or going on lake cruises. Principal attractions in the village, which are famous throughout Switzerland, include the waterslides at Aquaparc and the Swiss Steam Railway Park where you can ride on the miniature trains.
Le Bouveret plays host to a multitude of events including free summer concerts by the lake every Thursday evening, lakeside markets, regattas, the International Steam Festival and the Swiss Jet-Ski championships. One of the highlights is the spectacular fireworks show on July 31st which celebrates the national holiday a day in advance. This is one of the most beautiful lakeside spectacles around and draws a huge crowd every year.
The apartments at Marina Port-Valais (with their own moorings) are a beautiful place to stay and from here you can easily take gentle walks alongside the lake. There are numerous small shops and restaurants where you can savour culinary specialities fresh from the lake. You can also enjoy the view while dining at the Hotel Bellevue or on a sunny lakeside terrace. The passenger ferry will take you across the lake to Montreux (famous for its restaurants, nightlife and jazz festival), Chateau de Chillon, Territet, Vevey, Lausanne, Evian and St. Gingolph and all of these places are easily accessible by road.
Le Bouveret remains popular in winter since it is also situated close to popular skiing resorts including Villars, Verbier and Champery - gateway to Portes du Soleil. A short drive away is a hot spa naturally sourced and constantly heated by mineral springs, Servion Zoo and a nature reserve park.
Bouveret uniquely manages to combine the peace and tranquillity of the lake and the mountains with opportunities for sports, cultural activities, shopping and leisure.
