The tiny village of Locarn lies in the heart of rural Brittany, a sparse region of woodland, wetland and grassland that is about as far removed from the busy tourist resorts of the south coast as you can get. Many people have the dream of renting a secluded French farmhouse or cottage for a week and escaping the rat race, and Locarn has a good selection of these properties from which to choose from and live that dream in.
The main reason that people choose a Cotes d’Armor destination such as Locarn for their holiday rental experience is the peace and tranquillity that this region offers. If you are looking to get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life back home, Locarn’s high quality holiday rental houses and villas are ideal places in which to unwind.
Walking and hiking in the countryside are activities that are always high on the agenda for visitors to Locarn. There are several marked walking tracks around the centre of the village to enjoy, with bicycle hire another option to consider.
Around Locarn village are a few small shops, but for busier shopping options you will need to take a journey in the car. Hire car rental in France is easy to arrange, but it is advisable to book in advance so your holiday in the heart of Brittany is spent relaxing rather than sorting things out.
The beauty of Brittany is that even if you holiday in extremely rural villages such as Lorcan, you are still never too far away from busy towns, beaches and tourist attractions. An example is the popular coastal destination of Lorient (81km), which lies under an hour and a half away by car. Closer to home are more rural villages of a similar vein to Locarn, with examples being Mael-Carhaix and Trebrivan, both of which are 5km away – ideal for a bicycle ride.
The weather in Locarn is warm and sunny during the summer, and these temperatures can feel plenty hot enough when you are out and about exploring by foot. July and August are the hottest months, but the entire period between late April and early October is more than suitable for a holiday in Locarn.
Many British visitors opt to ferry across the channel, with the nearest arrival port at Roscoff, 75km away. Flight options are slightly limited in this region, so if you are intent on flying into the country you will likely have to make a two-hour car journey from Dinard Airport (DNR, 145km) near Saint-Malo.
