To the east of the Irish capital city of Dublin, jutting out into the Irish Sea, is the wonderful area of Howth. Originally starting life as a small fishing village, Howth is now a very popular destination for many types of travellers looking for a break away which is filled with activity and culture. With a mixture of residential and agricultural land in the area, a Howth holiday is the perfect way to get a slice of traditional Irish life.
As well as some spectacular sea views from a comfortable Howth holiday rental house, visitors will find a multitude of activities available on the peninsula to fill up the days on their trip. Amongst the activities available in and around the village are surfing, sailing, diving, paddle boating, swimming, pier fishing, cycling, walking, horse riding, tennis, golf and whale watching. The village also has the renowned Howth Castle sitting on its outskirts. The original timber castle is long gone but visitors can marvel at the 14th century structure which boasts being one of the last occupied castles in the whole of Ireland.
As part of your Howth holiday you are likely to want to get out and about to explore other parts of the country. A 54 mile journey north from Howth visitors will find the town of Dundalk in County Louth. Dundalk has several great historical sights including a seven story windmill and a couple of beautiful 19th century buildings. The County Museum in the town is housed in a wonderful restored 18th century warehouse and has exhibits which range from the Stone Age right up until the present day.
The weather is bound to play an important part in your travelling plans and so you will be delighted to hear that you can expect to enjoy some pretty wonderful weather on a Howth holiday. June through to September is usually the warmest time to have a holiday in the village with a maximum daytime temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius. If you prefer your surroundings to be bit cooler then the months of December, January and February offer up daytime temperatures ranging between 3 and 8 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall amount for Howth is 21 inches.
To start enjoying a Howth holiday, travellers can depart the UK from several airports such as Newcastle (NCL), Heathrow (LHR), Edinburgh (EDI), Newquay (NQY) and Southampton (SOU). Amongst the airlines offering regular, cheap flights to Dublin International Airport (DUB), which is just over 25 minutes away from Howth, are Flybe, Air Southwest, Aer Lingus, Ryanair and BMI.
