Msida is a small but important former fishing village nestled in a valley on the north-eastern side of the island of Malta. Its name comes from the Arabic for a fishermans dwelling and there is still a busy harbour dominating the town to this day. A Msida holiday means that you can enjoy a tranquil, traditional way of life without being crowded by a mass of tourists. A Msida holiday rental apartment will come with all of the mod-cons you would expect to ensure that your stay on Malta is as hassle-free and enjoyable as possible.
As well as a beautiful marina and some wonderful old buildings, including the 17th century wash house known as L-Ghajn tal-Hasselin and some parish churches, visitors on a Msida holiday will find that there are plenty of activities to keep them busy during their stay. Amongst the activities available in and around the town are sailing, windsurfing, fishing, water skiing, paragliding, golf, tennis, horse riding, cycling and walking.
If you decide to lock up your Msida holiday rental apartment for the day and explore some other parts of Malta then it is worth taking the 13 mile journey to the city of Valletta. This city was built during the 16th century by the Knights Hospitalliers and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Amongst the attractions worth seeing whilst visiting Valletta are the Magisterial Palace of the Grandmaster, the Palazzo Parisio, Our Lady of The Victories Church and the Fort Saint Elmo.
If the weather is a crucial feature of your trip then you will be delighted to hear that you can expect to experience a Subtropical Mediterranean climate whilst on a Msida holiday. This means that the summers are dry and hot whilst the winters are mild and wet. The warmest months to visit the island tend to be from June until September when the temperature can reach as high as 32 degrees Celsius. The cooler months of the year, namely January and February, see the daytime temperature fall to a more comfortable 16 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall amount for the town is 15 inches.
Setting off on a Msida holiday is really easy and stress-free; travellers can arrive at Malta International Airport (MLA) which is approximately 6 miles away from the town. Passengers can depart from a variety of large UK airports including Liverpool (LPL), Belfast (BFS), Edinburgh (EDI), Newcastle (NCL) and Heathrow (LHR). Travellers will find several large airlines that offer frequent, affordable flights to Malta including Air Malta, Thomas Cook Airlines, easyJet, Ryanair and Thomson Airways.
