One such village is St Lawrence, which is situated on the west of the island and is surrounded by three hills. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas and apartments.
The area around St Lawrence has some fantastic places to explore and the whole island is great for hiking, horse riding and cycling. Holidaymakers can go caving just a couple of minutes away at Dwejra as well as swimming and diving. There is plenty on offer here for sports enthusiasts including golf with the Royal Malta Golf Club on Malta. There are some lovely sandy beaches ideal for sunbathing and taking a swim in the Mediterranean Sea just a short ride from St Lawrence. Various watersports can be tried in Gozo and Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking, wind surfing and kayaking. There are just a few places to dine at in and around St Lawrence including restaurants and cafes. Visitors will find some shops too with souvenirs available including a few local arts and crafts as well as groceries for self catering holidaymakers. The island capital Victoria has a larger choice of shops and restaurants.
One of the main attractions in St Lawrence is the 19th century church, which contains an impressive statue of St Lawrence. Approximately one and half kilometres away is Gharb, which is home to churches dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Here holidaymakers can also pay a visit to the Gharb Folklore Museum, which is an 18th century historical house full of antique tools and artefacts. Victoria is the capital city of Gozo and offers many more interesting places to visit as well as shops and restaurants. A trip to the Maltese capital city Valetta is well worthwhile as there are many historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries here.
